As the title says: who should be our player of the season?

You've missed off my favourite, the scissor kid! Dazzled us with his laziness on the wing, took a couple of shots (off target) and had so much time on the ball, he could even stop and have a coffee and a chat with a member of the crowd.

What a player he was, forever to live in the memory with such greats as Robbie Turner, Matty Williams, Bob Catlin and Andy White.

 

I was tempted to go for the goat, as the video footage posted by Tarkers shows much better movement than half of our first team.

However, I am not sure it would be the best decision overall and I have opted for Stanley Aborah - for me he's been the most consistent player, in a very bad season which has less hopes. I think Graham Burke had he have kept up his form after the Villa game may have come close but really, it would fall back to someone like Carroll who went missing towards the latter. I can't say Stead because a part from his goals, he's not really done much but he tries.

Any defenders? Noooooooo. So very limited on the back of what appeared to be a year full of contention.

I'm torn between Will Hayhurst, who made no contribution this season, automatically making him one of our best players, or the goat, which offered poise and pace but which none of our managers bothered signing.

Mr and Mrs Magpie - never out injured - consistent performers - faster than half the squad - not booked or sent off - missed no tackles - missed no sitters...

Has to be the goat for me.  Not one single player has come close to performing consistently well over the course of the season.  None of them deserve it, though I expect it will go to the 'lower league Messi' for little more than a few fancy pirouettes on the halfway line.  Whoever gets it should be embarrassed to receive it.

I too was torn between Will Hayhurst and Tarkers pissed up Mexican goat. In the end, I was put off by the fact that the goat has changed species, originally being a geep, so opted for Will Hayhurst

Tricky decision between two imposters then.

The goat impersonated a sheep, Will Hayhurst impersonated a footballer.

Noble..Christmas season off, end of season off, at least Tarqs goat remains consistent.

In all seriousness, I can only think of 4 players worthy of consideration, but in all cases I come up with more reasons why they shouldn't get it:

Mike Edwards - the sentimental vote in his testimonial year, and even though he's done more than could be reasonably expected as emergency cover and been our best central defender, he's had far better seasons than this one.

Liam Noble - lots of appearances, good goalscoring and assist record, but far too many anonymous games and his brainfart last game should have lost him any support he had.

Jon Stead - again lots of appearances, decent goalscoring record, and one of the few players who looked like it mattered and gave 100%.  He's just had too many moderate to poor games to merit an award like this.  

Stanley Aborah - without doubt the most naturally gifted player we have, but has lacked any real impact and I believe his dummy spitting when Moniz was sacked had a divisive impact on the squad and team spirit.  

If really pushed I would go for Jon Stead on a 'least worst' basis, but on balance I'll stick with the goat.

For least worst contributions to the 2015-16 season then I would vote for Edwards or Stead. But as it is the PoN player of the year, then I would vote for Aborah as he has probably generated more PoN discussions than any other player, and a terrace chant.

So as well as poise and pace, the goat/sheep brings versatility to the table.  It's another argument in Aileen's favour.
