Shola Ameobi

Featured Replies

From another thread - former Newcastle and England U21 star Ameobi is a free agent and is training with us. Fantastic pedigree and a quality player in his prime, and competition for places up front has been sorely missing this season. But hasn't stayed anywhere long since leaving Newcastle. Worth a punt?

Yes, on a pay when you play deal until the end of the season, but not as a long term solution. How old is he now, 35? Been around a very long time and looking at his stats you could possibly say that it is catching up with him.

It would be nice to get an additional striker, however I'm not convinced about Ameobi. There's a lot of people that would take him but I would rather see someone with pace and a bit more direct.

from fleetwood to notts?

not a fan of pay as you play type deals. it worked for gavin mahon but most other players it seems to not work. if they deserve a contract sign them up, dont waste time having people who may not be up to it on our books.

not sure ameobi is even worth a proper contract he only played 10 times for fleetwood and his career is less impressive than carlton coles.

Signed until the end of the season, but its only a temporary deal.

I don't think we should be that concerned, if he does well or not, I am not sure we will see him extend his stay. It seems a makeshift deal to just bring in experience.

Far from the 'big signing' its being made out to be. I think people are clinching in hope that it will, yet for me it's an another thing that under the prior regime probably wouldn't have been received well IMO.

I hope he can make some form of contribution but I won't hold my breath.

Need to give him a chance, he gave a good interview and if he plays much, he should give his all.

When people ask what 'American Pie' is about, they're missing the point. The song isn't about the lines themselves - it's about what is between the lines. The song is about what isn't there.

Hopefully he can give us something Stead hasn't over the last few games.. Stead has not done much since his injury could do him wonders to be replaced for a couple of games..

Stead getting "the curse of the month award" didn't help matters eh. Won't vote for one of our players again ever. Not that i'll get chance again, this season.
