Is the league status really important?

Would being the oldest professional league club really be important if Notts are unsuccessful in their bid to retain their league 2 status?

I am interested in reading the views of other PON members.

If we lose our status, I can see us bing down there for a long, long time and more likely to drop further like Stockport, than go straight back up.

I've been thinking about this too. In the long term it absolutely is. F*rest would be able to market themselves as the city's only League club and eventually we would wither away.

On the other hand, one or two seasons in the Conference wouldn't be the end of us. Bristol Rovers, like us, have a big red neighbour and they had a few seasons down there. They bounced back and are now in League One. I'd swap places with them right now (as long as no-one makes me put on the stupid accent they have). If I remember right they also attracted very good gates in the Conference as their fanbase rallied around them.

Already Notts struggle with "bringing in" new fans. At the moment the only youngsters who are attracted to supporting the club are those whose parents are staunch Notts fans (and that number would have gone down with many of these adults losing the interest to go to Meadow Lane following the years of misery we've had, though there may have been a little bit of a spike in interest following Hardy's arrival).

With the club in non-league, Forest in Champ/L1, and nearby teams like Derby, Leicester, Burton and even Mansfield all in the top leagues (hell, even Lincoln may be going up into the EFL), Notts would have no clout whatsoever in the non-league, barring an immediate storming return the following season.

Like above , yes , my word yes , doesn't bare thinking about going out the league , that would be huge , we simply must fight to retain it , it's not easy to return .

It would seem we are all on the same wave lengths, relegation would be sole destroying for the club and for us fans. We don't have the money to throw around to get a quick fix, I wouldn't want this either but relegation must not happen.

We are the oldest football league club in the world now that is a tag that attracts interest to this club. We have had the most seasons the football league. We have had the most consecutive seasons in the football league. If we go down its likely that we could lose all of them achievements.

 

If we was to go down there's always the thought we could do a Stockport or even worse go bust.

I can't let that go. We are one of a number of founder League members - alongside Preston, Villa, Everton and others. That's something to be proud of but it doesn't make us unique.

I've said it before, but the "oldest Football League club in the world" tag is nonsense because the Football League is an English competition. It's like saying that Hamburger SV are the oldest Bundesliga club in the world. It makes us look insular. We are the oldest professional football club in the world and we still will be even if we go down!

It's massively important, if we drop out of the league we could turn out like many others have - Wrexham, Halifax, Stockport.

It's a difficult league to bounce back from, much harder than League Two.

The title isn't as important when you think if our stability and history, however we will always have it provided we remain in the league. Relegation would cause more issues to the fan base,  so it's very important we remain safe.
