From BBC News:

A lifelong fan of one of the founder members of the Football League has picked up a medal honouring one of his club's title winners at an auction.

The medal belonged to John Wren, who was part of Notts County's Second Division-winning side of 1922-23.

The lot was sold for £3,300 at Hansons Auctioneers in Etwall, Derbyshire.

The successful bidder - a 50-year-old from Nottingham who has held a season ticket since 1981 - said he was delighted with his winning bid.

"I'm a big collector of Notts County sporting memorabilia and this was something I was keen to own," he said.

Someone has just brought/won a piece of Notts county history and it was brought by a season ticket holder for 50 years so that’s good. It’s a shame it had to be sold if I’m honest but back then players didnt get paid much be nice for the players family to keep it but a great prize for a fan

Good purchase but I agree things like this should be something the club looks to buy. Would any fans be able to take stuff like this on when the club is in this situation? Maybe the Trust?? 😂

Looks more like a pocket watch rather than a medal but it’s cool, interesting story.

From time to time these types of things pop up, it’s amazing to see and I am glad Notts fans are snapping what they find up. Great item to have in their collection!
