I think this result is worrying for me. My (misguided) optimism that we'll stay up is finally gone  That being said, I'll be there on Wednesday to cheer us on, so for the sake of all of us let's hope I'm wrong!

Really disappointed at that result, I've just listened to Derry's interview and he was very honest with his assessment, he didn't make any excuses and said it was hard to find any positives.

Oh well back on the bottom for us it's looking grim again.

Safe journey home to Joe and all the other loyal Notts fans that made the journey.

A poor result, no doubt, but the most worrying thing is that we barely mustered a shot again. The Notts twitter said McGregor's loan is up now, unless it is renewed, so that may force our hand into two of Haynes/Enoch/Murray up front.

I would like to see Haber coming back too, unless there are other, better options on the horizon.

I do think we're going down, though.

Tony, I thought the same.  At least Shaun sees the same as the fans, and doesn't try to fool us with talk of all the 'positives' that he can take from the game.  That alone is refreshing after the last two appointments before him.

Sadly, no matter how organised and hard working Shaun and Greg make us, nothing can hide the fact that we're reliant on loanees who may be going back, and we simply don't have the quality otherwise, no matter how hard they work.

I do think however, that Ray will back him in the transfer market.  It will probably be mainly loanees again which is never ideal in a relegation battle, but that's the way it is.  It won't be easy to replace Lids though.  How many quality midfielders and goal scoring forwards are going to become available in January?  They also won't come cheap.

Fingers crossed for us all!

Super ram....Good to see you lot in the top two.  I bet you can hardly believe it!  Well deserved too.  Pretty funny talking to red dog rels at the moment!

ps....Can we have Ben Davies back on loan?

Posted

Have to agree with a lot of the above comments. We've simply let too many quality players leave too quickly without replacing them. Still think we can avoid the drop but we need a good run soon.

i second that super ram, we need our Ben back :)

I don't know how Steve Mc will go in the transfer window,he's keeping his cards close to his chest. We have a fairly strong midfield and attack and Ben hasn't featured much lately though he never lets us down when called upon.If he does go anywhere I hope it is to Notts.

Oh my...

First thoughts was after watching 30 odd minutes, 'this is Walsall all over again' and to be honest that isn't fair because we played far better than. Really disappointing, getting into good positions to push the ball out wide and why? To cross to one lone striker who wasn't winning much at all? Oh I'm sure this is one of those bad days and better is to come but that doesn't mask how annoyed I am by watching our side not actively compete in a game we needed to.

Bart was in outstanding form, he must feel the sense of pride and respect we have for him. If he does, hopefully we can encourage him to stay but I wouldn't think anything of him wanting to leave.

Just very disappointing, we need to start sussing out our opposition - The amount of times we gave the ball a way carelessly.

Match Report now live.

Well there goes another day i'll never get back again! what a waste of time and money.

1. bloody long drive!!!

2. Rubbish apart from Bart. (will go into more detail in a min.)

3. Strange use of some of the players. eg Enoch is obviously just coming back, and yes I do like him, but give him a runner as a partner in a 442. Mac playing behind him always left Enoch with too much to do. When he did get a partner up front shaun subs him!!!

4. Come on Sheenan. the first yellow must show why you must keep your nose clean as it leads to problems later on!

On the other side of the coin at least he was willing to use all 3 subs to try and change it.

first half we looked tired and disinterested to be honest. The Xmas thing might well be brought up, but surely Crawley have had a similar run as have the rest of the league. Second half looked even worse. Thank god for Bart. He went through a rough patch, along with the rest of the team at the beginning of the season, but he is now showing why he is a class apart. The question now is to keep him or sell him if a good offer comes in and build across the team.

Thanks for the first person reports, Joe and hissingdwarf, I think!

It's obviously depressing reading for all Notts fans, I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought Sean was going to bring a significant lift to the club, which he has... to a degree. It's important to remember that 1) he's still a novice manager 2) the squad isn't that good 3) even proven and experienced managers take time to bed in (look at Moyes for example).

Ray Trew needs to invest in the Derry/Abbot management team if he's going to get the best out of them and give them a chance. If he doesn't/can't then he won't be giving SD/GA a fair crack at the whip. and, given Derry/Abbot's popularity among the fans, I think he'll be guilty of failing to time his investments.

U [big sigh] Pies!

Well, I fear the writing is on the wall. Our situation is dire, although as people have said not impossible!

What troubles me most is our disciplinary record. Ok they are playing with more fight and passion, but all the bookings and sending offs, will continue to hurt us.

It would be hard enough with our first choice eleven, take Liddle out and then all of the suspensions and I would say we have next to no chance.

Ray does need to back the manager, but we may need to sell before we can buy. The budget was supposed to be towards the top end of the division. Just a shame that Shaun and Gregs starting point was so low, taking over a team still with a modicum of self belief would have given them a much better chance.

I'm going to do something I normally wouldn't, though I'd like to see out of those who went - What they would rate the players performance.

  • 01 Bialkowski - 8
  • 02 Dumbuya - 5
  • 03 Sheehan  - 7
  • 22 Fotheringham - 4 (Tempest - 5)
  • 06 Leacock - 5
  • 37 Fox - 3
  • 20 Campbell-Ryce - 6
  • 28 Boucaud - 4
  • 09 Showunmi - 4 (Haynes - 4)
  • 07 Grealish (Murray - Can't rate)
  • 08 McGregor - 5

So many under-performed, when we sparked a little bit of life some looked like it was possible to fight but decision making was generally flawed. I see some perhaps giving JCR a low rating but he gave effort and tried, some of his crosses wasn't all that bad and had players made an effort to get into the box (perhaps more than 3) we might be discussing how well he assisted a goal.

After reading PoN's match report, I feel I have a clearer view on things.

It sounds like Bart had several key moments, I wonder how many an average keeper would have allowed in? Certainly we're very lucky to have Bart in our side, there's no many sides which are lucky enough to have a keeper who continues to battle.

From my understanding Crawley did not want the ball to be played around the floor, which we seem to struggle with. Shame really, we could have been more direct and approached the game in a way we sit behind but look to exploit their attacks. It was likely it would be a battle, Crawley are no mugs! Hopefully we can start to settle as back to back defeats is a concerning aspect.

I thought apart from Bart they were all below average (below a 6)

Sheenan did look hungry for it, but he's got to keep his nose out of the daft stuff!

I don't Sheehan deserved to be sent off, his first yellow was the other player. I noticed their lad hit out at Sheehan and I noticed the swearing from him also. Sheehan just stood up and walked away, perhaps the movement of his head gave the wrong intention but their player put his hand more towards Sheehan. Oh well :P

Crawley Town. As if we can't put a performance in against Crawley Town.

They are a well organised, physical team with little class. There is little wrong with that as a footballing principle. But the fact that we were outclassed by them and so badly beaten that 1-0 is sympathetic to us, shows you all you need to know.

A disappointing game yestaday. We could of done much better and at least get a draw if not win. As we played badly they only got one goal so alot room for improvement on our part. The team really needs to pull together and do their best, not a half hearted game. We NEED to win to not go down and hurry up about it... theres no time for messing about now.

For me Bart was the only one to come out with any credit from this game. As for the rest of them they should hang their heads in shame, an abject performance on par with the Oldham debacle.

When 350 fans make the effort to travel that far then the least they can expect is effort. We, along with the other travelling support endured a 4 hour journey to then endure 90 mins of garbage from Notts was unacceptable.

Football can be a simple game BUT if you don't shoot you won't score, too much tippy tap play in midfield with no end product and a poor defence unable to mark basic set pieces. We give the ball away far too many times and in key areas of the pitch gifting the opposition chances. All of this will not be put right with the current bunch of players.

SD & GA have a lot of work to do to rebuild the team but unfortunately, IMO, this season that will be beyond them. We need to accept we are going down and give them opportunity to plan & build for next season. We may only be half way through the season but Crawley proved it is a motorway too far.

Sadly MYM, I agree with the main points here.

We don't get the ball to the right areas quick enough, and that doesn't mean we have to go long ball. Barring players that are going or gone back to parent clubs, we do not test the opposition keeper anywhere near enough.

Realistically we are going down. It will be how we rebuild. IF we can afford to rebuild. Whilst I believe the desire may be there at board level, I do not think the money is.

The transfer window is make or break time for Notts. If SD manages to get the right players in then all is not lost.Unfortunately every other club will be trying to improve their own squads .Good luck, anyway.
