Euro 2020 (in 2021)

Time to turn my attention to the Euros now that Notts are done for the season. I watched Wales vs Switzerland. Wales were lucky to draw in the end. Bale and Ramsey didn't turn up. Their keeper, Danny Ward, was superb, kept them in it. They need a big improvement to beat Turkey.Β

It was frightening to see Christian Erikkson collapse on the pitch. Thankfully he's stable. Denmark decided to finish the game and perhaps it's no surprise that they lost 1-0 to Finland. They missed a penalty that Erikkson would have taken and probably have scored but some things are more important than football.Β

I saw the Denmark game. After having seen the players crying and saying their prayers while their teammate was being given CPR, I couldn't believe they restarted it (at the wish of Erikssen and the teams) an hour later. When you've had a shock, it's natural to try to carry on as normal. But when you do that, it's not as easy as you thought it would be. Someone from UEFA should have taken responsibility and abandoned the match. As a sporting spectacle it was a farce.Β

I saw the opener and was very disappointed with Turkey. Fancy Wales to beat them in that form.Β

Yeah, best wishes to Eriksson hope he’s doing ok now. Made me forget about our game earlier pretty quickly.

I think the minute the players formed that barrier the footage should’ve been cut. It was quite clear something was very wrong and it was awful stuff to watch I turned over after the camera kept zooming back in to see what it could pick up. God knows how many times they did it before they did eventually cut to the studio.

Italy and Belgium looking good after their first games, I think they’ll both do quite well.

England Croatia today – I kind of think as long as we beat Scotland and Czech Republic we’ll be okay. It doesn’t really matter if we finish top or not, we’ll have to play one of France, Germany or Portugal none of them are going to be easy. Finish second and we’ll probably get Sweden or Poland...

England dominant but no end product so far. Croatia are growing into the game. England need to give the ball to Foden and Sterling. They are both looking lively. And they need to stop Modric.Β

Issue for England right now, nobody is making those direct runs from the channels into the key areas. They're almost walking the ball into chances and the creativity is there, but its not effective at all at this stage.

Sterling comes up big when it matters. England looked like they had run out of ideas. Phillips has been superb. Great run and pass for the goal.Β

England's game management has been superb. Modric is having to drop into his own half to pick up possession. Croatia haven't been great but a lot of that is down to England not allowing them to play.Β

Have to admire what England did today. They are not flashy but they are efficient and that can win you a tournament. They do need to go for the jugular when they get ahead.Β

Excellent performance and result. I hadn't seen Phillips before, but he has excellent, star man for me. Just a bit disappointed we didn't bring on Grealish after they showed him warming up!Β

Scotland 1 down to Czechia at half time. They need a miracle given that they have to play England and Croatia. I don't know why they started Lyndon Dykes ahead of Che Adams. Adams is on now and Christie is off. 2 up front is the way to go but it might a bit late!

Scotland 2 down now. Fawlty Towers feel around the 2nd goal. Not sure why Marshall was that far out. McGinn and McTominay need to get themselves into the game. They have been poor.Β

Scotland responded well to going 2 down but a combination of bad finishing and bad luck has denied them a goal. Their tournament is as good as over. No way they beat England or Croatia.Β

Disappointed with Turkey, they're a decent team and should be doing better against Wales.

Wales on the other hand have played some neat stuff, much more organised and together than Scotland, they play to their strengths, but they need to drop this reliance on Gareth Bale. He's not Ronaldo, he won't change the game completely by himself. Plus at times he's been guilty of being greedy, running into no man's land when he could've passed earlier in his run.

Piece of Bale brilliance, fouled in the box. Then he takes the worst penalty ever. Miles over the bar. Then he charges down the goalkeeper and almost scores.Β

People keep saying this Turkey side is decent, not from what I have watched so far this tournament (waits to see them score 3 quick goals)!

Typical Turkey. Start getting ratty when they are losing. Some things never change. Wales defended brilliantly. Ben Davies was immense. Bale despite the penalty miss was brilliant. Dan James broke out superbly when Wales were under pressure. It was practically a home game for Turkey and they failed miserably. 2nd goal. Roberts. Wales are in the knock out stages.Β

That circle group of Welsh players with Gareth Bale in the middle, jesus he takes himself seriously. He handed Connor Roberts the ball on a plate but as I said before - he needs to work as a team player not as the only effective channel of play. Always been the overhyped player!

Ah Chris. He got 2 assists. I know you are a secret Bale fan ????

He created 5 chances, but that's working as a team. There were spells where he just wasted by being greedy, I don't actually have anything against him - just think he's overrated and slightly arrogant.
