Paterson post Stuttgart
6 pointsMartin Paterson has hinted at wanting a seasoned goalkeeper since the Alfreton Town match, and now that the German tour is done, it seems more likely we’ll see a move. We need someone solid and experienced between the posts. It’s one of those key positions that can be the difference between promotion and falling short, just like having reliable goal-scorers. Replacing Alex Bass isn’t just important, it’s essential.6 points

6 pointsReckon he wants a keeper and couple of attacking players who can press and know where the goal is. But he must be desperate to have Jatta, Robertson, Tsaroulla and Norburn available, pretty sure they are all starters6 points

5 pointsIn a word it was Martin's best interview yet as Notts Head Coach. He's been able to observe how the team have performed over the four friendly matches, & He says he knows where he needs to strengthen the team. It's also very interesting to see him play Jarvis & Jones in the number 10 attacking midfield role & he says he's looking at that possibility. I myself have been asking for Jodi to be given a go in that role because I think he has the talent to do well there. I think everybody knows where we need those new players A, B, C & maybe D. After hearing Martin tonight I'm confident that we are going to see those arrivals at Notts in the coming week or so.5 points

Paterson post Stuttgart
4 pointsYeah, our needs seemed to be recognised by all. A GK and attacking, creative midfielder are top of the list. And another striker, I guess. The timings not ideal though, is it? Most of the free agent action has been done already. Gagliardi and co. will be dealing with ever-changing lists and a factor will be time - the longer we leave it the greater the negative impact on our promotion chances. We can be sure they will be bringing these players in ,when they bite the bullet and commit to a direction, and it's going to be fascinating which players are introduced to us in the coming days/weeks.4 points

Match Discussion: Stuttgarter Kickers v Notts County
A very interesting and informative kickabout yesterday. I was unsure about the starting lineup, but once they settled into the game they gave a good account of themselves. A draw was a fair result, but both sides will feel like they should have won. I felt the hosts edged the first half an hour and had the better of the chances up to then. Stuttgart looked more composed and settled, while we were misplacing a lot of passes. After that we settled down and had the beating of them in one-on-one situations without really threatening the goal too much. We never looked like scoring until we did. Edwards played a little deeper in the Palmer role and made a decent job of it. Hinchy put in another late tackle, he's a red card waiting to happen at the moment. Iopenda looks like a good footballer, and Kouhjar also had some good moments once he'd settled in. I think Jones definitely has what it takes for the no. 10 spot, but would we miss his crossing? Both sides looked toothless in front of goal, and for that reason neither looked like a genuine promotion contender to me. But two or three astute signings really could make a world of difference. Special kudos to the commentary team on the stream, who commentated in English and had really done their homework.4 points

i have another 30 minutes to my dinner break, i went to go eat in the cafeteria today. its not that big and does tend to be crowded, so i dont usually go but i wanted to stay on site. its quite nice, cool but looks like it might rain. not that i would complain about that, i have enough about the warm weather so its nice to have a day where its not that bad. i did think about having a walk to the embankment but i want to wait for when notts has the new home shirt as i want to pop in the club shop. 5:30pm finish today, so i look forward to finishing for the day. works been strangely quiet. no chance of it mate, i wanted some independence when i moved out of my mums but i dont mind living alone. i do miss the company. its the first step to true adulthood living in your own space away from your parents.3 points- YoopEyes welcome to PON
3 pointsThank you for the warm welcome. I’m not entirely @new” - I’ve been absent from this forum for a while but used to regularly contribute to the natch chat but under a duffer t e.mail address and user name. My old account “died” and my e.mail also became defunct. I’ve been supporting Notts for over 60 years, many of those as a season ticket holder, former Patrons Club member, Vice President and I now enjoy home games from the “prawn sandwich” section - in the Directors Suite. For many years I posted on NCM but avoided it for the last 3 or 4 years due to a few posters dictating and taking it over with political threads rather than football related ones. Now cutscenes to have withered on the vine and us no more - so I’m happy to be back here. A bit long winded but that’s my quick intro.3 points- Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham Tommy B

A draw was probably the ideal outcome for both sides. I’ve no idea how Notts performed as I didn’t pay for the stream, but I’m looking forward to the Cardiff pre-season friendly. With trialists on show and the squads being split, it’s not easy to keep momentum, though overall I’d take the draw.3 points- Weekly Chat - Monday 14th to Sunday 20th July
Hope you have a great break in Derbyshire @Fan of Big Tone, I wonder where you are in the county (I live there) Pissing down here further up north as well. Had to delay the return from our trip, taking my daughter to hospital in the early hours (she'll be fine) but it was sad to see the state of our NHS, everything seems tired. Still, service still good in that she was put on the right track at the time it was really needed. John Shuttleworth is what happened to Jilted John (remember him?) of "Gordon is a moron' fame. One thing I love about the radio series (all on Youtube) is all the references to Derbyshire - he's forever buggering off to Baslow, Hathersage, Snake Pass, Castleton etc and the Lady Bay reservoir of course. It's gentle humour anyone can enjoy, well worth a try.3 points- Match Discussion: Stuttgarter Kickers v Notts County

To play away to these strong teams in Germany drawing one, lose by the odd goal in another, is fine. We should 'take it' and build on it. But this is the main bit I'm praying that the club share this assessment, otherwise it could be a long season3 points- Match Discussion: Stuttgarter Kickers v Notts County
Let's begin with the positives. The players have all got valuable minutes in their legs during this three match tour of Germany. Becoming match fit is very important to start the season with & the players are well on their way to that goal. It was nice to see Jodi Jones get some minutes in the second half of this match & he looked sharp. Good to see Notts take the lead in a match & create a few chances too. Stuttgarter were much more to Notts's level so it was easier to judge where Notts actually are. I know that the result of a friendly match is not as important as the performance, but it would have been nice for Notts to have held on to the lead.. I think Rod McDonald did well, as did the trialist Keeper. Jodi did ok when he came on too. Jodi & Will playing in the number 10 AM role, interesting. Being critical, I do think Notts need three or four more players to be a side that can realistically challenge for promotion. I think we need a good striker with a record of scoring goals, an attacking midfielder & a good goalkeeper. . Also, I don't think Martin is anywhere near knowing who his starting 11 will be. By the way, Jatta didn't start for the B team tonight, so he's had no game time with only just over two weeks till the start of the regular season.3 points- Welcome MrWillowTiger

i forgot about the game which is a shame because i would have paid for the stream to see how the game went, but i dont think a draw is a bad outcome. we are getting the minutes into the players legs, fitness levels should be increasing and we come back for the "private" game and cardiff home friendly having had a good run out in Germany. i dont expect notts to win cardiff, but it would be good to see us put lessons learned from this game and the two other german games into practice. the results of pre season games mean little, so i am sure the players are settling into life under martin paterson and for the new signings to get up to speed with the notts way.2 points- Paterson post Stuttgart
2 pointsit was a masterstroke to talk sunderland into letting us sign alex bass and the undisclosed fee sounded reasonable, i think repeating this would be hard when teams are aware we are now selling players for a profit and that can lead to people wanting more money. its still very much worth exploring, i dont know if there is any good free agents in this area of the pitch but i hope we can identify a signing that has the experience we need.2 points- Wordle

Not our strongest lineup, I was hoping to see it treated as a dress rehearsal given the standard of the opposition but it's too early for that. Hopefully some of them can impress us. Here's Stuttgart's team for anyone who's interested. Looks like they're putting out a strong team. Morning all. Pleased to say that the insect bite on my lower leg hasn't needed me to consult the Doctor this time. It's been raining here since about midday. Ground is quite wet so that's good news. Really pleased with the flowers we bought that are growing very well. Plenty of colour. @TheSkipper, up to the formation of the Bundesliga in the 1960s German football was regionalised right up to the top level, with the champions of each regional league playing off to determine who would be German champions in a knockout tournament. Even today, German football is highly regionalised - the nationwide second division (Bundesliga 2) was only created in the 1970s, and the national third division as recently as 2008. 54 clubs (plus two B teams) play in these three divisions. Below the third division, there are five regional fourth divisions. The one Stuttgarter Kickers play in is probably the strongest. It's an odd league though - you've got fully professional clubs like Kickers Offenbach averaging crowds of over 5000 on the one hand, and on the other there are village teams with money, small town clubs with crowds in the hundreds and B teams of Bundesliga clubs that barely draw three-figure crowds at home and take nobody at all away. Attractive games are few and far between and with one promotion spot it's a difficult league to get out of. But the teams that do make it out tend to do well - Ulm and Elversberg both won consecutive promotions to Bundesliga 2 in the last few years, the latter almost making it to the a Bundesliga. As tomorrow's opponents are one of a few teams looking to go up, I think we can look forward to a close, competitive game tomorrow.2 points- Match Discussion: Stuttgarter Kickers v Notts County
My knowledge of German football is somewhat limited, particularly when it comes to understanding the intricacies of their league system below the second division. I'm not entirely clear on the structure of their lower divisions, especially the fourth-tier level, which leaves me curious about what it entails. However, based on the size of their stadiums and attendance figures, it seems that the atmosphere and quality of play in that division might be comparable to the level found in England's League Two and the National League promotion favourites. This comparison leads me to wonder how clubs in Germany’s lower leagues engage with their communities and the overall fan culture, but Stuttgarter Kickers, despite the American-sounding name, should be closer to our level than we are to the previous two teams. I hope Notts can be competitive and show resilience even if they turn out to be much better.2 points- Weekly Chat - Monday 14th to Sunday 20th July
I am glad it's much cooler today; it's been a bit unbearable to use my laptop due to it creating its own heat. Cheeky has adjusted my desk so that I can get my chair underneath it; I have a lot of issues with sitting down (I won't go into it, but it's back-related). Even making the slight change to remove what would have been an area my desk slided out on, housing my keyboard, I do find sitting closer and the ability to adjust more does make a big difference. Typing on top of my desk and having less room on the desk itself is a little fidgety. This is because I am quite fussy, but at least I can't see many cables. 😂2 points- Match Discussion: Stuttgarter Kickers v Notts County
If things aren’t going well, I hope Martin Paterson has the courage to change the formation. Playing out from the back needs the right set-up, and sticking to three centre backs might not work every time. In past seasons we didn’t have much choice, but this time we’ve got the players to switch to four at the back. It could help the team play with more balance and control.2 points- Match Discussion: Stuttgarter Kickers v Notts County
Stuttgarter Kickers have been up and down the leagues since their brief foray in the Bundesliga in the late 80s and early 90s, but after a five-year stay in the fifth-level Oberliga Baden-Württemberg they returned to the fourth-level Regionalliga Südwest in 2023. They very nearly sealed a second straight promotion to the third division, but blew it on the final day and VfB Stuttgart's B team went up in their place. Now they'll be hoping to win promotion at the third attempt after finishing fifth last season. As a Waldhof follower I've seen far more Regionalliga Südwest football than is good for me. The larger teams are fully professional and could hold their own in League Two - MSV Duisburg, who won the Regionalliga West least season, beat us 4-1 a year ago. However, the standard is highly variable and differs from one region to the next. Technically, the standard in the Regionalliga SW is relatively high, but many of the teams (especially the part-timers) can't maintain a press for 90 minutes - the league lacks the intensity and athleticism you see in the higher divisions in Germany or the Football League in England. As one of the strongest teams in probably the best of the five Regionalliga divisions, I'm expecting Stuttgarter Kickers to pose a tough test. I'm also familiar with a couple of their players as they used to play for Waldhof. Midfielder Per Lockl, who joined Kickers last year, previously played for SV Waldhof in the third division and Borussia Mönchengladbach II in the Regionalliga West. He played for Germany's youth teams and is a skilful player with lots of potential. He struggled to cope with the physicality of the third division at times, but he's a great player for that level and has his best years ahead of him. Another familiar name from further back is Lukas Kiefer, a bustling defensive midfielder and occasional right back I remember from Waldhof's days in the Regionalliga SW. Another interesting name is their new signing from Würzburg Maximilian Zaiser, a product of Bayern's youth system who played around 30 games for their B team in the third division. Kickers played a pre-season tournament today (Sunday), losing 2-0 to FC Villingen (relegated from the Regionalliga SW last season) and beating SSC Tübingen 11-0. As they're much closer to our level than Darmstadt or Kaiserslautern, I'm hoping we'll see much more of the ball and start to get an idea how Martin Paterson wants us to play. It'll be good to see Jones and a bit more of Aljofee too. If you're going, @BlackPudding has posted a few tips if you're planning on having the odd refreshment before the game (although those sausages don't convince me, sorry!).2 points- Football Regulator
2 points@Joshua, It’s a helpful push towards better control. Putting limits on how much clubs can spend means someone’s watching what they do, which makes it harder for mistakes or dodgy choices to be swept under the rug. Club owners and their media teams won’t be able to dismiss things quite so easily. With clear rules, it’ll be plain to see when spending gets out of hand or corners are being cut.2 pointsThis leaderboard is set to London/GMT+01:00 - Welcome MrWillowTiger
