Match Discussion: Game 9 - The Green (H)
Credit to Forest Green Rovers, they are so far the best team to have played at Meadow Lane this season. Whilst I don't think they deserved anything from the game, they made Notts work hard and Notts made themselves work even harder thereafter. I think we aided them in pushing us back, but Notts were relentless and good at creating goal-scoring chances. Tobi had a moment where he should have shot, selfishly he passed, but it seemed the wrong call for me. It was such a good position, I feel, it would have been harder to miss than to score. Notts looked good at 2-0, we were firmly in control in the first half and FGR pressed and tried, but I thought we could end the game 5-0, or maybe concede one or two goals. They started the second half much stronger than us, pushing and when they did manage to score - it had that knock-on effect we have seen in previous seasons where we crumble, then struggle to get a grip back of the game. This would have been one of those games where we lost, but felt cheated. Forest Green Rovers did well to get back in the game, had it ended here I think a draw would have been quite fair. Had the game continued with them threatening, maybe they could feel unlucky not to have got something? I think the fact that we manage to get into a higher gear and make it 4-2, I think that's enough for me to say we deserved the win. As I said earlier, Tobi had a clear chance, as did other players. Yes, they hit the bar late on but aside from that, it was just flashes. We caused the Forest Green Rovers keeper to make some great saves. Macaulay Langstaff managed to hold onto the ball, he passed on, and it ended up being struck goalwards by David McGoldrick and their keeper pulled off a remarkable save. To be honest, I think we worked for our goals and in comparison we allowed them to score. I think at times Aidan Stone could have done better, most certainly we shouldn't have given the penalty away. That said, we showed great spirit and character to seal the win. Jodi Jones was very unlucky at times, but I am not overly concerned about the goals we conceded. It was just one of those crazy games, where thankfully both teams really made a game of it. I think if Forest Green Rovers had played better in the first half, maybe they would deserve something or even more, but not based on their first 45 minutes. Second half, they were dangerously on it.

Where's the money gone...an excellent listen, podcast on football finances and need for an independent football regulator
I do think much of what is mentioned makes sense, using a licensing system would make it more manageable when it comes to bad owners. I'm not sure how it would work in regard to having the licence removed, then the prospective sale of the club. In a previous discussion, I did mention how councils can take back homes which aren't in use and are abandoned - if something like this can be worked into football it would help. If an owner is scared of losing all of their assets, then they may be more inclined to sell up quicker and move on to avoid losing out further.

Weekend Plans Friday 22nd -Sunday 24th Sept
It sounds like a nice way to listen to Notts. A few times back in the day, I sat in a pub in Skeggy (technically Winthorpe) and listened to Notts, also a few times on the beach. One time I actually wrote a message, with my children saying "COME ON YOU PIES" after we had won, which I posted to social media. Enjoy your time away; just make sure you have time for yourself and Mrs T! I will be at Meadow Lane tomorrow, it's going to be quite full on, but I am looking forward to it. I have enjoyed taking my fan pics, as it does put me in contact with fans I may otherwise miss. I do like those interactions; it goes along way to feeling at home when at Meadow Lane. Sunday, I need to get over to see my dad. I want to drag everyone over, as it's been awhile, but it depends on how some feel. Ellie's been unwell with a cold. I know she won't want to pass it on.

Warnock Retires (again)
Neil Warnock is a truly remarkable manager; he's the Ric Flair of football. His passion for the sport keeps him wanting to be involved. Hopefully, this time he will stay retired. I mean, if he wants to still be involved in fair play but why not a lesser role like a director of football. Which he has been outspoken about in the past, but really it is quite a suitable position. Naturally, retiring and putting his feet up is well deserved. He can always use the time to beat people on the golf course.

Are you a film buff? Prove it and unlock our exclusive film quiz!
The Goonies is one of my all-time favourite films, Day of the Dead (original) and the animated Transformers film from the year before my birth. There's so many more that I could add, but my favourite would be between these.

Exeter 0 Reading 9 EFL Trophy
We've all been on the end of a heavy defeat, but 9-0 would have been a very long night. Their goalkeeper won't be too happy, he might as well have sat in the stand with his fans after it went to 5-0. Just put a sign in the middle of the net.

Luton's losing streak
4 games in, Luton were always going to be facing an uphill battle, but they have many more games to focus on. Just being in the Premier League alone is fantastic achievement for them. I remember when John Hartson played for them, before he joined Arsenal. It's that fighting spirit Luton had, which they need to find for this season. I'm not sure if they will stay up, but I am hoping they can.

Comedy then and now: is dark humour taking over?
Recently, whilst watching YouTube a lot of old comedy shows and comedians have been appearing in my video list. One of which is Tommy Cooper. I don't watch a lot of comedians these days; I just don't find them as funny. There are a lot of good comedians out there, but they are completely different. Peter Kay is one of the few who reminds me of the classic style, as these days it seems more about quick wit, sarcasm, irony, deepen, black and dark humour, controversial one-liners etc. I used to enjoy watching Jack Dee and I think Russell Howard is one of the best currently. I just miss the family style entertainer, I suppose. The UK used to have many who could be silly, bring laughter but in a way that was wholesome.

Heidenheim won their first ever Bundesliga game
They seem to be doing okay considering, I had a look at the league table, and they aren't exactly near the danger zone. Good luck to them, it's nice to see teams like these and Union Berlin doing well.

Cheltenham manager departs
It's a valid point, at least for me. I imagine their playing budget is quite small, but provided the squad is behind the manager and everyone is tight-knit survival is possible. Cheltenham won't suddenly start winning games by changing the manager, and if they do, well I would say shame on the players because it's not always the managers fault. I still don't think a change here will make a massive difference.

Gateshead passing goal
I've read comments from "purest football fans" that claim the goal's boring because there are too many passes. Considering football these days is a lot more fluid, quicker and far more skilful - I find it quite dumbfounding that anyone could consider this excellent passing phrase dull. You have to appreciate the control, build-up and way that the passing breaks down the opposition. Some of those quicker passes could easily go wrong, yet each player seems to be on the same wavelength and for every player to get a touch. It's incredible! I remember when Notts did a similar thing, but I don't recall us getting every player on the ball. It had the same effect, such a stylish and well-worked team goal.

Where are they now : Mason Bennett
He's been plagued with injuries throughout his career, it's the real reason he was held back at Derby County - whilst his involvement in the drink-driving saga was very stupid. Richard Keogh, who was the Rams captain, shouldn't have allowed Tom Lawrence or Mason Bennett to enter the car either. All three of them should have known better! Derby were always going to release Bennett due to his injuries, what once were a very promising career has been derailed with injuries and off the field issues. At 27-years-old, he still has a chance and if he can continue to do well for Burton his career might do the U-Turn it should have done when he was 24. Derby rejected bids for him when he was younger, with Manchester United among the interested parties to sign him. His goal for us was very well taken, I remember when he got injured and the looming feeling that it would be over for him and us.

MAGnet Links - Forest Green Rovers
Liam Noble.... How he went from being one of the most promising players at our club, to being unreliable and constantly being sent off - I don't know. His re-signing was very uninspiring and due to JJ being sent images of Noble training at Basford's facilities. Kevin Nolan rebranded PON "Arsenal FanTV" in his pre-match interview. Kev, let's take it easy on the beers. ???? I had zero to do with this and the images played no part in Noble's lacklustre return, unfortunately, Liam Noble had other issues which has seen his career flat line.

Match Discussion: Game 9 - The Green (H)
From what I have seen of Forest Green Rovers, they have been incredibly poor and are clearly still being effected by their chairman Dale Vince's decisions. The good thing for us, is that their morale is extremely low and if we can get off to a good start, they should only drop their heads further. Even if this game were away from home, I would feel confident as FGR could potentially be the worst team we have faced. Worse than Doncaster Rovers and Salford City combined. Our midfield will always be the key in getting a front foot on the game. Holding the ball and making space, especially if we can make the FGR players chase the game should lead to chances. I am hoping we can achieve this without going all the way back to Aidan Stone, which I do understand why we do it - yet for the most part it just breaks our attacks, allowing the opposition to have a breather. When Stone resorts to kicking the ball long, usually it's to one player [David McGoldrick] and he's usually heavily marked. I think we should exploit the centre of the park, whilst allowing the wider channels to draw their players out and in turn open the space in their penalty box. It should be a good game; hopefully, they can rise to the challenge themselves and make a game of it.

Dan Crowley
Dan Crowley has an elite pedigree about him, you can see how Arsenal has influenced his approach to playing football and that suites us well. We play in such a way, where his attributes come into their own. He's such a skilful and articulated player that moves wisely and doesn't waste his energy. One thing I like, is when he doesn't drop back, he will find space staying up, where he knows he can do the 'Matt Palmer' turn as a way to protect the ball until someone is there to support him. You can see how he's improving by the game, whilst the feeling of being settled at a club can massively help a player play their best. Ruben is a totally different player, but Dan is world's apart in terms of ability. Unfortunately, whilst Ruben did improve with us, he'll reach a limit soon enough. whereas Dan still has much more to give despite only being two years apart from each others age.

Luke Williams : Salford v Notts
Luke Williams is by far my favourite manager to listen to for some time; it's never the same old thing. The worst being Jamie Fullerton who could have put me in a comma, alongside Kevin Nolan in recent years, Erm, like. Same old, same old... Ricardo Moniz was also there, along with Shaun Derry and Martin Allen.

I am pleased for Boston, Chester I don't really care about, although I wish our two ex players well.

Fact of the day
I've posted about this, as did JJ many years ago, but we kept getting comments from other clubs fans - so, Joe decided it wasn't worth doing because it's extremely difficult to validate. I know Stoke City fans believe they were the first, along with Preston. We'll take it though, as I do recall reading a paper clipping in my grandfather's scrap book about Notts being the first to pay for a player and how it was not sportsmanlike behaviour.

Goals : Salford v Notts
The passing at times, especially in the first half, was class. Extremely fast and capable of breaking through the defence. Both goals were excellently taken. 100% Macaulay Langstaff will score on Saturday against FGR, watch.
