  1. If we can play with that threatening intensity where our attacks bombard and seem relentless, Colchester United will find it difficult to prevent us from scoring. I think they will hope that their own midfield can do enough to break things up. As defensively, that is their issue, and they are quite capable of doing well themselves. But the reason they're not doing as well is simply down to them making too many defensive mistakes. It should prove to be an interesting game, one where I would feel comfortable if we can manage to score early on within the first 25 minutes whilst ensuring we are tight and reliable at the back. I don't think we will witness another goal thriller; one or two goals might be enough to secure the win. Ultimately, we may be denied this by a very much improved Colchester United who hold us to a 1-1 draw. Provided they don't score more than us, it's fine. I know people won't want points to be dropped but in the grand scheme of things remaining unbeaten is more important than the winning streak we are on.
  2. I just watched the interview David Horseman, the Forest Green Rovers manager, gave after the game. He mostly comes across well, but there are some bitter signs for me where he seems to be trying to defend himself more than telling it how it is. "We're not far away, this is supposedly the best team in the league." They did play well, but in the first half they weren't very effective. With incredible determination and a reservoir of untapped energy, they exceeded all expectations. The difference in the first half was we created the better chances and proved ourselves to be clinical on goal. Forest Green didn't have me remotely concerned that they would score in the first half, in comparison to the second half where they came out looking like they wanted to win the game. He uses the word "arrogance" in what he wanted to see from his team, that's never a positive sign from a manager, and he realises his slip in wording when he quickly tries to change his tune. He doesn't finish and adds a deflective comment after he says that there were words said at half-time but insisted it was from him. It's like a school boy trying to explain why he's done something naughty to a headmaster. It's way he keeps adding throwaway comments about how he felt they played, trying to reinforce to the interviewer and listeners that he believes it. Yeah, Forest Green Rovers are the best team to play us so far at Meadow Lane. Yet to complain about missing chances and trying to talk ours down, along with our quality, it really shows a lack of awareness from him and says more about him trying to explain why he can't win a game. I don't think they murdered us in the second half, but they showed a real force in pulling the game back. They did very well, but the deflective comment of them having 7 injuries further backs up my comments. Especially, since earlier in the interview he speaks about them needing to find players, so they can be better. We can see the making of a very good Forest Rovers, however, they did play well. He noted, which seems like a slip, that his side hasn't played as well for 90 minutes. This was part of their issue, as they weren't great attacking in the first half or much after we scored our 4th. I don't think anyone would say FGR were poor, but they didn't do enough to draw or win in my opinion. Had they played like they did in the second half, but for the whole game and they still had lost, I would feel lucky to have 3 points.
  3. Don't worry, you've given plenty of time for people to catch up like @super_ram. Nobody will mind you missed a day, just have fun posting.
  4. At least you knew where he lived; I assume none of your family ended up camping outside the house trying to bump into him? What a hero Mrs T was for doing this. You really should have, but I know what it's like. I think it's something that once you do, you gain that confidence but until then there's always that nervous element like you feel you are bothering people or should leave them to enjoy their night.
  5. @Fan of Big Tone: I was told this also after the game and by a friend that's a steward. I don't know how serious it was, but hopefully news will come out about how they are doing. A flashing ambulance was stationed by the Family Stand, specifically on the Jimmy Sirrel Stand side.
  6. I think a few could realistically do a job here, they looked very good as a team. Reece Welch is a special talent though. I think he's the lad that tried to wind up Jodi Jones though, which was a bit daft. I might be wrong.
  7. It's a funny tweet, but really they need something else to help them from conceding that amount of goals.
  8. Deeney thuggishly barging into Bostock, without a response. Deeney spinning around trying to convince the referee he was fouled, he should have been yellowed for that. Clear diving! Three defenders on Deeney, none of which could block the ball. It's quite poor. I don't blame Stone here! Their second goal, Stone can be blamed because he wasn't watching the ball. He looked like he had spaced out at a key moment, but defensively again it was poor.
  9. I didn't recall the name until I saw his wiki photo, then I remembered him. He was too lightweight and easily overpowered back then, but he was young. On paper, I remember feeling the loan would give us some pace, but he never got going. I wasn't even aware he played for Forest Green Rovers, I wished I had checked in hindsight as it would have been interesting to note how he did if he played against us.
  10. I would be more critical of Jim O'Brien, Aidan Stone and Sam Austin, by their own standards, each were just above average. Rest of the players did well in various levels.
  11. I never met Jimmy Sirell either, but his daughter, Audrey, is such a lovely lady. I say, I never met him but once my grandfather, Ray, spoke to him and afterwards he told me that it was our greatest manager. I couldn't really understand what Jimmy said, so I paid little attention to me being so young at the time. I just assumed it was a supporter that my grandfather knew, until after he told me. I have always enjoyed hearing stories about Jimmy. I wished I had listened more closely to their conversation, but he seemed a very nice person, that was down to earth. I know it meant a lot to my grandfather, that Jimmy took the time out to always speak to him when they crossed paths. Brian Stubbs once told me a story about a pitch invasion that happened and how he was clobbering people, to which Jimmy didn't like and told him to do it away from sight. Les Bradd also once told me that Jimmy would do anything for anyone, always making sure the players knew they could approach him, but nobody wanted to anger Jimmy as he commanded such high respect that he could be quite fiery when annoyed.
  12. After the game yesterday, quite a few of the players kindly signed my prints, and I am very grateful for this. I also spoke to Dave Bracegirdle, of the BBC and told him how much I enjoy his commentary and approach to his work. He probably thought I was a right weird sod, but he listened and thanked me. Both he and Mark Stallard praised my art as well. Going as far as to say, they're surprised the club doesn't work with me. I'm not interested in making money for wealth, but to keep my passion going. Jodi Jones, Macaulay Langstaff, Connell Rawlinson, Aaron Nemane, John Bostock, David McGoldrick all spoke to me and were thankful that I gave them new prints in both home and away. In fact, a couple asked me if I was sure, I think if they take the time and sign some, the very least I can do is thank them. I may have forgotten one or two, but it gave me such a huge lift to feel appreciated. From that, it gave me the encouragement to ask Luke Williams if I could show him a print I have of him, which I haven't had the chance to give him. Unfortunately, I forgot that there's two in A4 size in my binder than I wanted to get signed. One for me and one for a good friend - @Ryan Raynor. If any of the players read this or their families, it means so much to me and I hope it wasn't too cheeky of me to ask. I really enjoyed the conversations, particularly with Jodi who was an amazing person, and King Williams as well. Today, I spent some quality time with my dad. I considered it my day off, yet I still uploaded my fan pictures and did the match report. @super_ram took a trip down memory lane with me; it was a good chat. I can't wait for him to come to Skegness with us. ❤
  13. I'm a bit late to this, although I noticed many, many comments and tweet regarding something Connell Rawlinson had said on Twitter. There's no need for anyone else to get involved, that's my first thought. I am sure Tom is capable of rising above the comment. So, why the need to make a mountain out of a mole hill is beyond me, but there's always something. I have also seen worse things said, which nobody gets up in arms about. Tom seems like a very nice lad. I haven't spoken to him in person, but I have exchanged messages. I don't think there's any harm in what he does; he's perfectly entitled. If people who didn't play football couldn't have a say, well, there are some managers who have done remarkably well in the game and have never kicked a ball. Many of the boxing pundits have never thrown a competitive punch. So, it's a bit of a silly comment by Rawlinson, but I haven't lost any respect for him. We don't know what prompted the tweet, so that's why I say it's got nothing to do with anyone but the two people involved. It's very much, something some are trying to make a bigger thing out of. Rawlinson has done right by deleting the tweet, that's the end of it as far as I am concerned. As I say, Rawlinson is just as much entitled to his opinion, but this extends to Tom too. This isn't something to be taking arms against, whilst it's not needed - worst things happen. Those outraged by the comments, I hope they don't overlook some of the abusive things that happen which are far worse but get ignored. At the end of the day, we should stand as one and be kinder. End of...
