  1. Halifax will probably give us a bit more time on the ball early on, yet I do expect them to go for it. I just see them wanting to suss us out properly before going for it, I also suspect they'll have done their home work and seen in previous games where we are week. I hope for our sake that this has been properly ourselves, the opposition shouldn't be that hard to figure out. We have some excellent players for this division, which should be shinning but team wise it could be much better.
  2. A win might help with confidence, it could give Neal Ardley a chance to mix things up properly. However, I do wonder how many fans actually care about this game? I don't. It's a nothing cup, yet knowing what some of our fans are like they'll make a big thing of this when they wanted us to focus on the league in the FA Cup. Dennis to bag 3 goals.
  3. I feel Neal Ardley needs to be given time to add the stability we lack, however, he's as stubborn as Kevin Nolan. Very similar downfalls, I think right now he should be getting players fighting for places - which we all know certain people are guaranteed to be on the team sheet. The inconsistencies can be pin pointed to several factors, most of which Ardley has to take responsibility for due to him being the manager. I'm probably right now, 65% Ardley in but it does keep becoming lower. When he made the silly comments about people wanting Notts to fail, whilst I respect his opinion, it was obviously very silly to say publicly during a press conference. One of my biggest concerns is the lack of management skills when it comes to lifting players, I hope he serves and gets us playing. The football at times has been a joy to watch, some of the best stuff for years but these past several games it's been the opposite of it.
  4. I feel changes are needed, yet if Neal Ardley can get the best out of the players and we get a result - it doesn't matter. I think the pressure will be on us to win at home, especially with the recent blip. I am sure most fans will get behind the team, I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous mind. If things it the fan early, we need to be positive and respond from there. I have to add, I think Kristian Dennis should start alongside Kyle Wootton. Give Wes Thomas a rest, but we'll see.
  5. Well the cup run has burst, time to put the full focus on the league now. I hope the scoreline doesn't reflect on another poor performance, hopefully, some of those who attended the game can/will shed some light on this.
  6. So close, I wasn't able to make it due to health reasons but I followed the game closely. I think most will be in acceptance about the result, perhaps a little disappointed about the late goal - yet it sounded better. Defensively, something needs to be done to counter the goals which are leaked. This game could probably come down to switching off in the final minutes mind.
  7. I would opt for this lineup myself. Slocombe Kelly-Evans Rawlinson Lacey Bakayogo Shields Booty Doyle Osborne Wootton Dennis It's somewhat harsh on Wes Thomas, who I feel has been one of our better players in recent weeks, but I think he needs a rest. I don't feel Enzio should be anywhere near the starting line-up, he can't work out of this poor form. Momentum has played a big part in the better results which Notts has had, it's time for Neal Ardley to seek form and effort. Over whatever he feels is the best player, reputation and ability isn't everything when they're not performing well. At this stage, to help the defence, Notts needs to bring in players who will work hard to remain in their shirt. Certain people are guaranteed a start, no matter what and that is just wrong.
  8. Disappointing outcome, it seems the squad is quite out of form at the moment. 2-1 down. I think, it's clear that certain players need to up their game and performances. Enzio and Rose especially, we need to try to mix things up. I'm starting to feel talk of play-offs has made the squad lose focus. Let's just battle lads!
  9. I think the performance should be better, result? I think it will be a boring draw. Both teams should have a decent amount of chances, yet I don't think we will go there all guns blazin'. I am hoping, Neal Ardley sends the team out wanting to prove themselves after the last game against Barrow. I won't be there, I had hoped to be able, but this past week I have felt awful. Good luck to those that make the trip, there's been a lot of dedication from fans.
  10. I'm disappointed, yet every team has an off day and it means very little. I am sure the lads will respond to this positively, Barrow whilst being somewhat childish and dirty - they deserved the win. I don't want to comment any further on them, otherwise I might still be typing my thoughts here, tomorrow! I thought the strikers did well enough, little service and a major lack of quality from the crossing. Simple fact is, too many had an off day.
  11. Unless of a knock, or an injury, I don't think any changes would be required. I think the squads pretty settled, I'm looking forward to the game.
  12. I think I've been quite critical of Michael Doyle, as I have to admit I wasn't his biggest fan. I can see that he's Neal Ardley's voice on the pitch, something which I have mentioned myself but I find him to be a bit of Jekyll and Hyde type of player. Whilst I have preferred Mitch Rose as the captain, I don't think Rose's recent performance would warrant such duty. He's gone very quiet, whereas Doyle now plays in the opposite fashion. He's sometimes extremely wasteful and frustrating, I don't deny he can be effective in his simple duties. The passion at times I feel does benefit the squad. Would he be my first choose on the team sheet? No, however as the captain it would be difficult not to name him. This, I do feel is Doyle's biggest weakness as he knows he's not replaceable. Great to see your balance in perspective, and thought process @Simon Clark, this is a very good piece.
  13. Both teams are in similar form right now, only difference is the defeat Notts suffered to Chesterfield. Barrow have won 4 of their last 5 games, having drawn the other. I always feel more confident with Neal Ardley's squad at home, we seem to always play better at Meadow Lane. I'm hoping we start off calm and collected, nothing fancy. Just get a feel for them. I can't really comment much on the opposition, they look a tidy team but I don't know much else about them.
  14. I have to be honest, the World's Oldest Professional Football League Club while it was nice - it did seem to be part of the curse that Meadow Lane has. I wasn't that bothered about the title, for me relegation from League Two was more about the uncertainty of falling out of the Football League for the first time and how we seem to sit in divisions once this happens. The club is certainly big, the potential is there to take us to the Championship and although I feel our natural level would be League One (if we go by stature). I think we need to earn it, right now it's promising under the Danish owners. Neal Ardley to his merit has remoulded the club and got us playing quite well, this season has mainly been exciting for that reason, and recruitment seems to be spot on. This commitment and level do need to be met continuously, then perhaps we can grow again further.
  15. Hartlepool have a good midfield, they tend to be blessed there and when the players work hard - you can't write them. It will be a difficult game in my eyes.
  16. Notts County continued their fine form in the National League with a 2-0 win over Torquay at Meadow Lane. Richard Brindley netted the opener for the Magpies in the eighth minute - his first goal for the club - with a 25-yard strike into the bottom corner after Torquay failed to properly clear a corner. Kristian Dennis doubled County's advantage three minutes into the second half, glancing in a Sean Shields free-kick for his seventh goal of the season and third in as many games. County defender Connell Rawlinson cleared off the line following a scramble which means they have gone 531 minutes without conceding at home, as reported by BBC Sport. The Magpies have now lost just once in nine games as they moved into the playoff places. 17. Things are looking quite promising, the team performs on the same wavelength and I honestly feel that they have finally clicked. Notts looked very lively and up for it at the beginning, for me - all this talk of Tarquay being difficult to beat and the home record being lost due to it might have been something which fuelled them. I want to say Tarquay played well as a team. I disagree with comments about them being 'poor' or 'substandard', I felt they did well, but fell to a brilliant strike by Richard Brindley who has been a quiet underrated performer in my eyes. His opening strike was just lovely! Notts also played as a team, however, they performed at a much higher standard. It was very entertaining, with a lot of quality moments. It just feels like we have a team which will fight, work hard and play together as a unit.
  18. Proper old school football, it's been years since I have seen Notts play Torquay United. I'm hoping that Notts can continue the home form, as we played quite well to control the last game but I do feel Torquay will be trickier. I think they've got a fair amount of height about them too, so it should be quite interesting how we handle that. I am confident, just imagine if we picked up back to back wins again just how much better this could do for the team's morale. I would avoid changes personally, I don't think any are needed. Kristian Dennis is great coming on from the bench, he should rotated start, but perhaps during away games. Michael Doyle shouldn't start, yet I am sure he will find himself selected.
  19. I used to work with a really nasty and vile person, she used to tease me about Notts because her then thing (I can't say partner, she had many) supported Dagenham and Redbridge. For this reason, I hope Notts stuffs them and we get a victory similar to Chorley. Meadow Lane is looking to be very important in terms of picking up points, so I hope that we can do enough. The performance does need to be there after the last home game, hopefully the regulars will be where I know them. I'm looking forward to it.
  20. Decent result considering, I am pleased that we battled for the point. To some degree, it sounds as if Notts was lucky because Dover did well from what Charlie Slater and Mark Stallard said.
  21. Notts County made it back-to-back wins as they ran out 2-0 winners over AFC Fylde at Meadow Lane on Saturday. Wes Thomas opened the scoring for Neal Ardley's side on after 19 minutes as he went past several Fylde defenders before rifling into the roof of the net from the edge of the area. Fylde weighed in with several opportunities, with Danny Rowe looking dangerous, but goalkeeper Dan Lavercombe had to be sharp to thwart Sam Osborne and Kyle Wootton. The Magpies eventually got the killer second on 80 minutes when Damien McCrory headed in Regan Booty's corner from close range, and the result sees them up to eighth in the National League. 22. Some of the comments expressed online about Matt is nothing short of disgraceful, it's not right and this is football. I just feel Tootle needs to focus on his training and just go about doing whatever he can. A chance may come, he's a good player who can impress. It's good to know he's mentally well, this shouldn't be knocked or used to justify a reason to get rid of him. Neal Ardley has his mind set on what he expects, I just wished we could see the same standard being met by others who so far this season are falling short bar the odd wonder goal. It's about working hard for the badge and playing well, not earning selection just because you can score or do a few good things at random times.
  23. It was a solid result in terms of Notts digging deep and doing what must in order to keep them at bay. First half, I felt they were very poor. A livelier Notts could have finished the game here, if best chances had been created, but as a whole I thought it was good enough. Some fans suggested to me, that in their opinion, it stunk, yet winning football games is the only thing I feel that matters - then you can win them well with confidence high. A real highlight was the slick movement and passing of Kyle Wootton to create chances for Wes Thomas to get in behind the last defender. This was smart football, and whilst I think Wootton should attempt to narrow down some of the gap by pressuring defenders - I do see why Neal Ardley wanted him. This type of neat play can see a partnership form, I think all three of the strikers in Thomas, Nathan Tyson and Kristian Dennis can benefit from this. Honestly, all it takes is a bit more movement - this type of quick thinking is hard to master and Wootton shows us right now he's got it. The final 45 minutes, well Notts just did what they needed to. It wasn't pretty, nor the best football and for the most part AFC Flyde had us under the cosh. They never seemed likely to score, Sam Slocombe did make some wonderful saves, but that's the confidence in which he gives. It was a decent game, which shows how the job can be finished if we take the chances created and limit the opposition at the back. Final thoughts, how comedic was the referee who became injured falling over. ???? I think the only reason he went off was due to his pride being hurt, you think footballers play act about injuries - well this ref seems to have written the text book.
