  1. Would prefer it if we were looking at an experienced centre back to be honest. Young lads can be very inconsistent, whereas we are desperate for somebody who is solid, good in the air and vocal.
  2. Saves us a job in sending him back. Let’s face it, if he couldn’t get into our shambles of a back line, then he has no chance.
  3. Yes it is @Robbie__64, LW has stated that he doesn’t like removing a player from attack by changing formation, so he will have to get better defenders. Crowley has been brilliant, but I would be happy to lose an attacking option on the right as we would still have Crowley, Langstaff, Didzy and Jones on the pitch.
  4. Our defence is garbage, but has been for a couple of seasons. Fans knew it needed strengthening in the summer, but all we got were two kids. I also think that we can still play high possession football away from home but definitely need a shift in personnel by adding a proper CDM with pace, heading and tackling ability, a better back 3 who can actually mark and close down the opposition, and a competent goalkeeper who can marshal his back line and claim crosses. We also need either another striker or attacking midfielder as Morias is a sicknote and Randall is more like Lord Lucan than a footballer! Finally, I’d like to see a proper RWB in place of Nemane, someone who can actually defend as well as attack. This won’t all come in January so needs to be sorted for next season. We are not good enough away from home because we are too lightweight and can’t cope when pressed. We are also not good enough because we only have around 6 or 7 players in the first XI capable of winning us promotion. I hope the owners, directors and management have now realised that you need a larger squad in the EFL to be competitive as ours is now threadbare because of its size and injury list.
  5. We are probably the nearest we will ever be to total football in this Notts side with so many players changing positions on the pitch during the game. We are basically now playing 3-6-0 with the 6 being broken down into several different formations throughout the game and Bostock at times dropping into the back line to collect the ball or for when either Brindley or Cameron move forward. We still need to strengthen the back line as soon as possible, but this must surely be the top priority now and I’m intrigued as to who it may be.
  6. Agree with @Robbie__64, keep the same side if fit as they have nearly 2 weeks to recover for the next game. This will be a test as Tranmere’s form has picked up, but we will be better than them IF we continue like we have for the last 3 games. Just keep mistakes down to a minimum and we will be fine.
  7. He did well getting to 51, I had to have one of mine done at 42!
  8. Either New Year’s Day or the 2nd for our trees, villages, or outdoor decorations, the rest are put away any day between the 27th and New Year’s Eve (cards are always first to go).
  9. @Piethagoram would love 2 new centre backs but I think with Macari signing the best we can hope for is one more. Hopefully a solid one would bring the best out of Baldwin and make him more consistent. Tipton to return surely has to happen and can see Gosling going for certain. As for Brooks, I think all the fans would like to see him given a run, but I’m not sure if LW will gamble on him.
  10. On paper he looks decent, but I’m not going to get carried away until it has been confirmed as it isn’t very often that paper stories on Notts transfer targets are right. I’d like to see a new centre half signed in the first week, followed be a midfielder second.
  11. My new driver, been after one for a few years but the wife relented this year and got me the one I wanted! Other than that, I received two mugs with images of dogs similar to my two on them, little things… Which musical @Fan of Big Tone? We love the west end theatres and try to get to see one every year.
  12. I’m with @Robbie__64on this, I don’t really want to hear from a player when he will be quite clearly down, the last thing he wants to hear is criticism. They are normally quizzed about it on the midweek interviews anyway, when they’ve had chance to digest and analyse the defeat. Managers are always the only important voice after a defeat anyway and will quite clearly state (unless they’re Phil Parkinson) what went wrong or just how good the opposition played.
  13. I think he watched a different game to most of us. Rovers had hardly touched the ball up until the penalty, apart from a couple of half chances. Penalty was never a penalty anyway, so justice was served.
  14. Good, controlled win today, but crikey, Rovers are a poor side. Failing to press our back line meant that we had all the time in the world to create attacks, have they not watched and learnt anything about us?? Using Didzy as a false 9 looks really good along with Macca and Crowley’s movement, and I also like it when Johnny B plays deep like he did today as both he and Baldwin could start moving us forward. I’ve still got concerns, desperate for another centre half to take pressure off Baldwin, still short in central midfield as Austin is no fit for it and Nemane’s all round game is terrible. Oh and I nearly had a heart attack when Stone almost flapped one into his own net and attempted to dribble away from their striker!!
  15. Mick Walker went right down in my estimations after this game as I felt he showed no class whatsoever in singling out Dijkstra for his mistake. I laid just as much blame on Cherry as he came rushing out when there was no need to as Dijkstra had it covered. Overall, it was a more than fair result on the night as Derby had by far the best chances, but Gary Mac could have put the game out of reach but shot too near their keeper when normally he would have buried it. That Derby side was an expensive unit as well with Tommy J, Shorty, Paul Kitson, Paul Simpson and Gabbiadini in it (I think Gabbiadini was on the bench).
  16. Indeed Chris, I mentioned him back in the summer on people who could be added to the Alumni. I only just remember him playing as I think he was injured quite a bit towards the end of his time with Notts. He died when only in his 50s as well from memory.
  17. Chris Marsden Tony Barras Ben Barclay Manager link Colin Murphy
  18. Real weakness now without Matty Palmer is that our midfield cannot cope with being outnumbered and we’re having to play either aging players or players out of position so any press we have is ineffective as they don’t have the legs for it. That, along with playing wingers instead of proper wingbacks in the position is leaving the defence vulnerable to attacks down the flanks and now through the middle. When we have the ball the lack of height in the side means that they can’t go long as it is going to come straight back and the opposition press means they are being forced back to the keeper, who then has to boot it long as he has no movement in front of him. We need to shift to either a 433 or 4321, play two proper full backs bring in another centre half to play alongside Baldwin, and at least one central midfielder with legs. We also need a vocal keeper who is competent under the high ball and not superglued to his line. Stone may come good under a more solid defence but I have serious reservations and cannot see what made us sign him in the first place as he is no upgrade on Slocombe and is arguably worse in every department.
  19. Christmas songs are always the ones that stick in your head, even if you don’t follow the bands/singers normally. Been a lot of great tracks over the years but my top two that I can’t split would probably be between:- “Snow is falling, all around me, children playing, having fun.” and “Hey, Mr. Churchill comes over here, to say we're doing splendidly” Followed by Noddy and Roy’s two great songs (both released in the same year ironically). But ask me again next year and it will probably change round.
  20. I don’t know anything at all about women’s football (apart from the fact it’s poor) so can’t think of anybody really. Wild guess would be Chi Chi Mendes?
  21. Think he enjoys being a part time footballer and he has another career he is looking to pursue when his footballing days are over. It would have been a big upheaval for him to come to England and to be honest, we have no idea if he would have been any good (although he couldn’t be any worse). I don’t think we’ve been after him for January personally, I think (I’m hoping) we’ve got a higher level player in mind for the position.
  22. Very pleased we signed him permanently and good to see that we’ve got him on a long contract as he has looked our most consistent defender to be honest. We need one more tall, quick centre half now in very early January to come in as an immediate starter, along with another central midfielder and the I can see us definitely making the playoffs. We now know for a fact that Connor Keeley won’t be coming to us as he has just signed for another Irish side (probably just internet gossip that linked us in the first place). I also think we may well see either Rawlo or Brindley being offered out on loan when we do get another defender in. And I agree with @Chris, Tipton can go back to Wolves for me.
  23. It’s a stupid rule that didn’t need changing! I’ve seen images that also suggest it hit his chest, but I think that is taken a split second later. If you advance it one frame at a time, it looks to hit a raised arm first but it’s a natural jumping reaction so very harsh. More questions need answering around how the striker was able to get so much space and why Slocombe didn’t just head it clear. He might have got a boot in the face but at least he would have got a foul!
  24. Mine still is Galaxy, you can keep all your namby pamby posh chocolate, give me a bar of galaxy any day of the week!
