Reasons for Optimism
For all is said & done, the powers that be at Notts will do what they think is best for the Club. It doesn't mean that we supporters should agree with everything they do. If the Club had been struggling in the bottom half of the league last season, I could easily understand why the club would want a big clear out & a significant recruitment of new players. But we finished sixth, just 2 wins away from getting promoted on goal difference. Notts took it to the last game of the season. Was a 22 player turnaround really necessary? Surely we had the makings of a successful squad & it has been gutted. I still think that just 5 more players, with around 5 leaving, would have strengthened an already decent squad. Even though I think the turnaround has been too big, & it will probably get bigger by the end of the window, the owners are clearly trying to strengthen the side & I applaud that. I just think the club may have gone two steps back to go three forward that's all. Time will tell if I'm right or wrong. I hope I'm wrong.

Reasons for Optimism
Of course there is always room for optimism & I am sure that the team will improve as the players gel together. I do believe that there wasn't a lot wrong with the team that fished sixth last season & could have easily been improved by adding just five new additions. The team just needed 2 good goalkeepers, two good AMs & a good striker. I think that 11 new additions were unnecessary & this has had a big affect on the cohesiveness of the team. And after all those additions, we still need a good goalkeeper, a playmaker & a decent proven goalscorer.

When playing it out from the back goes wrong
I think playing safe & avoiding risky situations is just common sense. Continuing to play the same way & gifting the opposition easy goals can only be construed as foolish or even foolhardy.

Footballing principles sacrificed?
The end goal of playing professional Association Football is to score more goals than your opponent by moving the ball by any means towards your opponent's goal & getting the ball over the goal line. Teams don't get points for playing pretty entertaining football. It's the team that employs the best tactics & shape to counter how the other team has lined up. It doesn't matter how you win football matches so long as you win, Salford won because tactically they were much better than Notts, didn't make any mistakes at the back, & took their chances. Did Salford play pretty & entertaining football? No, I don't think they did, but they won & earned the 3 points. This isn't the first time Notts have secumbed to these tactics. We've seen it all before last season & the season before. Lessons need to be learnt.

Faces of PON 25-26: Salford City (H)
I think it's great idea to catalog a part of the history of the club in this way. Well done @Chris

@McPie I generally agree with what you say. Problem now for Paterson is that you can bet your bottom Dollar that a lot of teams will study the match & will set up as close as they can to the tactics Salford employed. The Head Coach has to try to counter this & I hope he does, because unfortunately, Maynard didn't succeed in countering the very high press & physicality despite Didzy & Jatta being in the side.- Who's your Man of the Match v Salford?
Keanan Bennetts gets my vote, but I did think that Luker did well & scored a good goal. I thought Bedeau did ok & so did Iorpenda. I thought those four were above the rest.- Notts County 1-2 Salford City: Magpies Fall Short in First Home Game of the Season
Salford just outplayed Notts in key areas with their tactics. They had a plan & it worked perfectly for them. The first half was really poor from Notts & unfortunately they fell into the trap of presenting Salford with gifts at the back which led to the two goals they scored. Notts played a little better in the second half & scored with a well taken goal by Luker, & Jones hit the bar from a free kick, but unfortunately it still doesn't detract from the fact that Notts were 2nd best on the day. It is plain that we need a striker who can score goals, we need a playmaker who can create chances, & a decent goalkeeper who can command his box, & is a good distributor of the ball. I just hope that we can get those three players in before the transfer window closes.- EFL Cup 1st Round: Match Discussion: The Latics (A)
I am pleased that this game will take place just three days after the dissapointing result against Salford. It gives all the players a chance to redeem themselves & give themselves much needed confidence too. I think that the vast majority of the players that started the match against Salford will figure once again with just a few changes. I don't think the Gaffer will bring in academy & fringe players to get match practice, the way Martin was talking in his post match interview, this match will be treated like a league 2 match. He might persist with Roos in goal but I wouldn't be surprised if he picked Griffiths or Slocombe between the sticks. League 1 Wigan will pose a tough test for Notts no matter what the circumstances, however Notts need to show some character & they need to show us what they are made of. It will be interesting to see if they will play their heart out for the new gaffer. I really hope they do. The performance is much more important than the result, but I do hope a positive result ensues.- Game 2: Match Discussion, The Ammies (H)
Too many new faces in the starting 11. Seven is too many for me. Make's the team so disjointed at the moment. I'd put Slocombe for Roos (until another goalie is bought), McDonald for Aljofree, Hinchy for Norburn & Jones back on the left wing. Grant has his detractors but he'd be in my starting 11, Hall in the attacking Midfield role I'd even consider going to a back four.- EFL Cup 1st Round: Match Discussion: The Latics (A)
Notts have the opportunity to quickly put behind them the dissapointing result on Saturday against Salford City. Head Coach Martin Paterson in his post Salford interview articulated that a strong side will be fielded against Wigan & he is aiming to win the game.- The opening of GEM in West Bridgford
Wow. Is it almost 60 years ago? I remember going to GEM with my parents. The store seemed to go on for ever and ever. It was revolutionary for its time.- Weather Updates
