Match Discussion: League Cup - The Shrews (A)
There is this rule that says they can only bring on substitutes on three occasions plus an opportunity at half time. I think that is the reason we have these multiple substitutions at one time.

Opposition View: How Fleetwood Town’s New Signings Could Impact the Notts County Game
Fleetwood were one of the relegated team last season from League 1, but as you have iterated @Chris, Fleetwood are not to be underestimated. They had a great result in the League Cup beating West Brom, and they will be very keen to make a quick return to League 1 this season. I disagree with Fleetwood's supporter's opinion that they will win the league, however I think they will be there or there abouts at the season's end. Notts will have to be at their very best against them, & Stuart will need to play his strongest available side. Fleetwood will be a big test for Stuart's new team and formation. Notts need to be on their guard defensively & we will need to see more chances created by our attacking midfielders. The first half display last night was very encouraging for Notts, however the second half performance was concerning. Notts need to put the league cup game behind them now and if they need to grind out a result against Fleetwood, so be it. I think Notts will have to do that quite a lot in matches this season. But I do think we have the players to do that if necessary.

Managing Expectations with Notts
@Morten Johansen If we play like we did in the first half last night, I don't think we will be far away from the playoffs come May. The three substitutions mid way through the second half disrupted Notts, but all being said, the first half performance was very encouraging.

Managing Expectations with Notts
It good to have expectations for your Club, Stuart will have expectations, so will the players and the fans. If we lose, yes of course it will give many fans stress but it always passes over. We can see from the different reactions on PON & social media that everyone has different expectations Listening to Stuart's post match interview he was disappointed with the result, but wanted to move on quickly to the next match. Some of the fans, such as myself we're very disappointed that we lost after having a two goal lead, then losing it by making defensive mistakes just like last season. I want to see Notts try to win every single match they play, that my immediate expectation. My expectation this season is to make the playoffs and have good cup runs. The league cup run died a death very quickly, so ones gone. Others may see things differently, but at the end of the day everyone will want Notts to do well and keep improving to be successful.

Cup Competitions: Should Clubs Take Them Seriously?
@Blake I can understand the manager wanting to give players more minutes,. One of the things that is so different to years ago is that there is no reserve league as such anymore. The only thing that is anywhere near a reserve league is the B team league but that is filled with junior players. The modern squad system and finance got rid of the reserve teams. That's probably why managers have to change their senior side to give game time to squad players. Another way round it is to be a Man City where all their squad players are the same level as the first team. I suppose that's why those teams are so successful. That's why the Notts squad has to include 22 players of equal skill. The Notts squad is better in depth than last year but in the Goalkeeping & striker departments, we are lacking.

Cup Competitions: Should Clubs Take Them Seriously?
Stuart didn't treat the Shrewsbury match as a serious competitive match in my opinion, he treated it as a game purely to give his second string game time. Slocombe, for example Slocombe has served the club well but he's simply not good enough at this level but Stuart continues to play him. It's just another example of another cup match getting away. In the sixties, seventies and eighties a manager could have easily been sacked for not treating a cup match seriously. In fact, a club in those days would have been drawn over the coals for fielding an understrength side. Many fans today just accept this state of affairs, but every defeat hurts and I believe a defeat such as this shouldn't be taken so lightly.

The trouble is, Stuart didn't treat this match as a serious competitive match, he treated it as a game purely to give his second string game time. Slocombe, for example He's simply not good enough at this level but Stuart continues to play him.

Tonight's team v Shrewsbury
@Pies79 Forty seven years ago I saw my first Notts match. Notts had 11 players plus 1 substitute. The pitches were terrible especially in winter, the ball was heavy, & the manager played his BEST team every single match, whether league or cup. Every defeat hurts. I'll get over it in a few days, but for me, Notts should be trying to win every single match by playing the best available team every time. But that team he put out tonight wasn't his best available team. Leaving out Bass, Platt, & Jatta was a big mistake. I say play your best team and give your team and supporters the best chance of winning.

Match Report: Notts County Fall in Dramatic Penalty Shootout After Six-Goal Thriller Against Shrewsbury Town
Notts played brilliantly in the first half. As good as the first half was, the exact opposite was true in the second half. Notts lost their way somewhat and gave away sloppy goals before Jatta came to the rescue late in the game. Maynard's three substitutions didn't help either. Notts could easily have won that match if Maynard had played his best 11 from the start. Treating the match as a training game really does annoy, when there is a good chance of winning and moving on to the next round. I just think modern Managers need to change their mindset and treat cup games as any other competitive game. Play to win every time.

Match Discussion: League Cup - The Shrews (A)
The positives we can take are that we played brilliantly in the first half. Jatta scored from a corner when he came on late in the game. He's our best striker at the moment & I thought Grant did well and scored a goal too. The other positive is that we demonstrated that we can score goals. And in the records the match ended 3:3, so it goes down as a draw. The negatives. We were sloppy in defence in the second half. The substitutions didn't help and disrupted the team this time. I don't think Slocombe is good enough either. My advice to Maynard. Play your best eleven every game and we should be ok.

Tonight's team v Shrewsbury
He didn't play his best 11. The players were a mix of first 11 players and squad players. Maynard treated the match as nothing more than a training game to give the squad players game time. Ok it will go down in the records as a 3:3 draw, but we lost from a winning position. The second half performance was dreadful and I'm afraid Stuart has to take the blame, for his substitutions in the second half, & leaving his best striker on the bench till very late in the game. I'm so disappointed after such a brilliant start to the match.

Match Discussion: League Cup - The Shrews (A)
In the first half we saw the best performance by Notts under Stuart Maynard, but the second half was a disaster. Notts really looked the part in the first half and looked so dangerous. Grant and Austin got the goals and we looked lively up front and solid at the back. But the old sloppiness in defence from last season came back again in the second half with three goals conceded, before a late Jatta equaliser took the game to penalties that Notts subsequently lost. These head coaches and managers drive me up the wall with their stance to cup games. It seems Maynard treated this game as no more than a training game. People will say the game doesn't matter but ALL games matter. Why oh why play Slocombe instead of Bass. Why not play Platt, Scott and Jatta from the start? These Head coaches just don't treat cup matches seriously. It is so disappointing.

Notts County Women Sign Rhea Bailey and Leah Hardy Ahead of 2024/25 Season
Notts County Women have now signed 3 ladies to bolster the team. The latest two signings, Rhea particularly and Leah look to be two quality signings for Notts at this level. Rhea has come to Notts from the USA where the standard is very high & Leah comes with a good reputation from Lincoln City where she was a key member of the Lincoln side. These two signings demonstrate that Notts are keen to improve this season after narrowly avoiding the drop last season. The standard in this division was particularly high with the top five teams last season, so it will be interesting to see how the Notts team compete with the new additions.
