It’s Fathers Day, I hope all you sons and daughters are contacting your Dads and letting them know how much you appreciate them. Its a poignant day for me I had two sons, sadly one is no longer with us so today is a bit weird. We are still away on holiday so I won’t see my remaining son but me and Mrs T are going for Sunday Lunch at a local pub so I’m looking forward to that. Whats everyone else doing on Father’s Day?

I’d probably be that grumpy one from years ago, I can’t remember his name, he was Scottish and about the same age as me but considerably richer.

The best in my time has got to be Sir Alf Ramsey of course who steered the England team to success and won the World Cup in 1966, I was a youngster aged 14 at the time and I remember being very excited.

If you have to pay to get in on match days I’ll be very disappointed, I wouldn’t pay to get in and buy one pint because that’s all I’d drink, so I think for that reason I’m out, as they say on Dragons Den. Having said that I hope it’s a success and I’m sure there’ll be lots of people who have the money will support it.

Now one or two lapsed members have returned to the fold I thought I’d try and resurrect the weekend chat feature and hopefully I won’t be talking to myself. What is everyone up to this weekend? Regular readers won’t be surprised to learn we are on holiday on the south coast, we are staying in a hotel in Havant for two night before moving on to a cottage in the New Forest. Yesterday I went to see my older brother who is now an incredible 85 years old and as bright as a button. We were also hoping to catch up with our two eldest grandchildren who are in the navy but sadly that can’t happen for various reasons. We move on to our cottage later this afternoon and looking forward to a restful week. What are your plans? Chat about anything non football here.

I agree with this, thank goodness we now have owners who can provide stability and give the coach time to get things right, it depresses me when I see that after Notts lose a game immediately the knives come out and people start baying for blood. Our owners will not be swayed by fan opinion and they will do things their way, I trust them to hire and fire when they see fit. Its a clean sheet this season and fans should get behind the team, the management staff and the owners and let’s see where it takes us.

As in all things tastes change, things move on, football is no exception, as you rightly say @Robbie the goalkeepers role has changed immensely and these days a goalkeeper has to have a range of qualities, they have to be good shot stoppers, accurate passers, accurate throwers and excellent with the ball at their feet to enable them to dribble when necessary. So in that respect I would imagine the clubs feel that a good goalkeeping coach is worth his weight in gold. Who remembers George Smith the Notts goalie from the 50s early 60s, he would sometimes dribble his way out of goal and I’ve even seen him take a throw in halfway up the pitch, perhaps he was a trailblazer sweeper keeper.
