  2. For me, there are two things: belief and confidence. I think the first win is always the most difficult, and after Sutton United, we needed this win just to focus on what we do have. We need to understand that in these early stages, anyone can beat anyone, and until form takes hold, things may be a bit hit-and-miss. Yet it is my hope that this will give our squad a boost of confidence and make them believe that we can dig deep to get a more positive outcome. I thought in the second half, Notts played some superb stuff, and the rotation of the players helped to inject life. It was a very pleasing result and a decent performance.
  3. I wish him all the best; it’s a shame, but I think he should make a solid recovery like Tobi did.
  4. It’s excellent to see things are coming together; I need to up my own game, but I will be hands-on. I think the live topics have a lot of potential, and if we can have some fun discussions, I think it will only catch on further.
  5. Richard Brindley in the centre of the CBs is a revolution; he looked extremely comfortable and solid. He offered energy going forward and steady cover, alongside Kyle Cameron and Connell Rawlinson, who I felt were below average today. Brindley played outstandingly, giving strong cover. I thought we were guilty of overplaying it at times. Grimsby is a good side and deserved their leads because, until the second half, they were the better of the two teams. Whatever Luke Williams said at half-time, it got a response. I have to say, I would still prefer Sam Slocombe to start, but Aidan Stone is making good strides. The thing for me is that he never looks likely to save shots, even ones which the opposition blast wide. He’s excellent in distribution and in the air. I’m pleased for John Bostock; he deserved to get on the scoresheet.
  6. I’m not that bothered, it was a big day and these nerves will settle. Luke Williams has the difficult job of getting the best out of them, so I tend to ease off the players because quite early on I felt we should have changed the tactics we were using. The formation just didn’t give us any advantage over Sutton United. While I say this, I am not annoyed or angry with Williams. I do feel he has a portion of the disappointment on his hands though.
  7. It’s good news that Macaulay Langstaff has signed a new deal. I agree that both him and Notts will have put in a release clause, even if it’s not publicly acknowledged. Teams who may be watching to see how he does in League Two might not be tempted to pay a premium for his services, but it puts Notts in a strong hand when it does come to these discussions. I think for now we just have to enjoy seeing him play for us.
  8. I enjoy watching The Magpie Circle from time to time, usually when the guests are worth watching. This is one of those episodes that fans should watch. It’s a very good show and I appreciate Mark Stallard putting his free time into featuring on it.
  9. It sounds like a good move for Curtis Thompson. He seems to like teams that aren’t what you would expect to do well. I never saw him doing so well at Wycombe. I didn’t think they had the team to go the distance they did, but he was firmly part of that journey.
  10. Great pictures, @Fan of Big Tone. I haven’t been there for years now, due to the homeless and student drug users, but I will try to get to see this. Hopefully, the area has been cleaned up since then because it ruined such a nice place.
  11. Hull City 2-2 Sheffield Wednesday Ipswich Town 1-3 Stoke City Leyton Orient 0-2 Portsmouth (Joker) Peterborough United 1-1 Charlton Athletic Harrogate Town 2-0 Forest Green Rovers Swindon Town 1-1 Crewe Alexandra Dagenham & Redbridge 0-2 Southend United York City 0-0 Kidderminster Harriers
  12. How annoying would it be if Notts won convincingly after losing to Sutton? It would be nice to have a good League Cup run, but at the same time, the league is far more important, and doing well would just be frustrating considering how poor the Sutton game was. I do want Notts to do well, but if they went out and played like world-beaters, I would be hacked off.
  13. Omari Patrick looked class; I think he would do well in our squad. It’s a shame we didn’t have Joel Taylor, as his height would have been useful against Patrick and Sowunmi.
  14. The highlights don’t show just how shocking Notts were. Yes, the way we conceded wasn’t pretty, but the whole game was a lot worse than the highlights showed. It’s not something I wish to see again.
  15. There was a chance that Notts could have pulled it back if Aidan Stone hadn’t been sent off, but it might not have made a difference. Notts have played just as badly before and then picked up once things had settled down. I think it was more than just a bad day at the office; Notts just looked woeful.
  16. I don’t see the point in taking the knee or booing. FIFA and the FA have both stated that there is no room for politics in football, yet they continue to allow it to be political. People just want to see football return to what it used to be, without political agendas. I didn’t boo, nor would I, but it needs to be stopped both ways.
  17. The first game of the season is always one of the most important, as getting off to a good start and securing early points can provide a huge boost. Sutton is known to have had issues with their pitch, which is said to be one of the worst to play on. It is unclear if this has changed since they joined the Football League, but Notts County will need to persist regardless. Based on previous encounters, a draw seems like a likely outcome. However, having Macaulay Langstaff and David McGoldrick in the squad could provide some strong attacking options. McGoldrick, in particular, would likely relish the opportunity to score. My prediction for the game is a 2-2 draw, but I hope that Notts County can secure a 0-2 or 1-2 victory.
  18. Owning your own ground can also provide significant benefits. Take Coventry, for example, who sold their own ground and had to ground share before returning to their own stadium as renters alongside the rugby club. In my opinion, it makes little sense to suggest that not owning the land is better. This seems like the wrong point to make, especially in a discussion about the threat of ground sharing with our neighbours across the river. Personally, I would not want to rent land from Nottingham Council.
  19. There is a lot of potential in the market, with many fans from overseas groups already purchasing shirts and showing them off. This is a prime area for Notts County to generate additional revenue while making these fans feel like a real part of the community.
  20. This is a great video, and it’s hard not to root for Jim O’Brien to do well. The doubters from last season were proven wrong, as he has shown himself to be a valuable member of the squad. Notts County has improved significantly since he was last in League Two.
  21. Blackburn Rovers 0-2 West Bromwich Albion [Joker] Plymouth Argyle 0-0 Huddersfield Town Carlisle United 2-0 Fleetwood Town Shrewsbury Town 1-0 Cheltenham Town Morecambe 1-3 Walsall Tranmere Rovers 2-1 Barrow Aldershot 1-4 Oxford City Gateshead 0-2 Boreham Wood
  22. The squad appears to have been rigorously trained, with a high level of intensity and focus. These factors are likely to benefit the team, given the quality of the players and their potential to perform well in games. While the outcome of certain matches may be unpredictable, the team’s preparation can go a long way in ensuring success. It is important for the club to continue striving for improvement, and it seems that Luke Williams and his staff are actively pursuing this goal. By maintaining their focus and intensity, the squad can continue to develop and achieve success on the field.
  23. It’s a great message to send out. I hope fans will understand if things don’t quite go to plan because what the club is building is special, and it doesn’t reflect on the work the club has put in if we fail to reach the playoffs. I think most will agree that we are just glad to be back within the Football League. Yet, the chance of back-to-back promotions would be incredible. I like the message and confidence of the skipper. Kyle Cameron is clearly optimistic about the season, and there’s nothing wrong with setting high standards at the start of a new season. However, we have to balance those dreams and expectations so that it doesn’t derail the season if things aren’t so rosy in terms of results. I personally believe we are good enough for the playoffs. I think the top 3 is doable but quite ambitious. I’m not saying we can’t; I’m just acknowledging the challenge.
  24. I agree that all the pre-season friendlies gave the club and Luke Williams an insight. I think this is a very fair and detailed article, one that I wholeheartedly agree with. I believe the club will have decided the friendlies based on giving the players a real test. One thing I hope we do next season is play the two home games nearer the end. Obviously, this will be down to Stoke and Forest availability, but ending the pre-season away from home after having a solid test against two strong teams would lead to consistency going into the season, in my opinion.
  25. I can appreciate that he hasn’t coached in League Two, but he must be aware of what other teams have and will have had reports of the clubs in League Two, along with doing his own research ahead of the season. Pre-season has given him some insights about how the squad can perform against various levels. I think we have a good squad on paper and I believe Luke Williams will see this. By 10 games, he will have more of an understanding, but it’s good that he isn’t getting carried away. He’s very smart with the way he speaks, as some fans will take on board what he says and therefore understand that expectations are different for everyone.
