  1. Why did you join prideofnottingham.co.uk? I joined after seeing a call to action for writers, that is what brought me to the site. I thought PON could help me and I could help the site in return. What is your main highlight of being a member? Winning the Member of the Month, it was a nice surprise for doing something I enjoy. How much have you seen PoN grow during your time? PON has grown a lot, especially over the last few months with people making effort with the site. The community could be much bigger if people got involved, I don't know why PON isn't more of a hub for the club. As a community, what would you say are the three core values to PoN and why? Quality, progression and togetherness
  2. This is why I have nothing to do with politics, every side think they're the one in the right.
  3. Have they appointed a new manager permanently though?
  4. Two scrappy teams which neither side was able to put in a proper performance. I think from the Notts perspective this is my biggest worry the fact we are woeful and lack that finishing required to win games. Stead missed a few good chances yesterday.
  5. Odd team Cambridge United, I don't know what to expect. I would like to think that Notts have to get a good result but I think both teams at this stage are unpredictable. We need the points badly...
  6. Just two more crucial key areas to be strengthened and I feel it will be the difference between promotion and chasing Luton Town for the title. We have to go for it. This is well written @Chris.
  7. He should be happy with the point at the end of the day. Why some managers look to make excuses rather than praising the better parts I will never understand. It's not like hes under pressure from the board at all.
  8. I would always take a point away from home. After we lost the focus in the game we could have easily lots the match. It was good play to get back into it, but it was not pretty football.
  9. I do hope for Ryan Yates sake the switch benefits him. I agree 100% with what you have written here Chris, it makes little to no sense. There must be more behind the decision to recall him otherwise I do feel he would be best having stayed put. There's little chance playing League One this season will prepare him enough for the Championship during the next campaign either.
  10. Notts have to go for the win. It sounds like its going to be a good away game and our fan base is up for it. I think the players will lift themselves for the performances, we tend be fine during these types of games. A 1-0 win will do me fine.
  11. If they play a weaker squad they are asking for trouble. Most teams have a busy run of fixtures this time of year, Smith should be wary of undermining Notts IMO.
  12. It needs to stay in the right place, he could be our best player if he manages it.
  13. Just keep the play simple and work hard, chances will present themselves and if we are performing well they will be taken. I don't fear Grimsby Town at all. 2-0 home win for us!
  14. I have to be honest I am not really familiar with the FITC part of Notts. It does seem like they do some very good work, though I only know what fans say and now this.
  15. I listened to the game on the radio, Notts sounded like they put a very impressive performance on show and equally matched Luton Town. Things might not have gone in favour of them at Kenilworth Road but the result is one of the best this season. Notts have an amazing togetherness, in both team spirit and effort and Kevin Nolan must be delighted with how things are. I feel like I can start believing more that we are able to gain promotion, which we can sort the hoofing out once we are out of League Two. There's no negatives about drawing 1-1 to a side like Luton at all. We have nothing to fear against any side provided we respect the approaching opposition.
  16. I thought they played better at times, each time they scored they grow in confidence and caused us issues.
  17. Grant does give us that extra quality but he did not win us the game, he scored a tap in. The team won the match simple as that.
  18. Yesterday is the type of game last season we would have lost and I thought Notts did a great job at pulling ahead once they had scored. I did not see the penalty, so I can't call it but the referee did seem keen to award something in their favour. Thought Notts played solid in midfield but we do need to be more organised at the back as I am concerned about these daft penalties.
  19. Two half of good performances would be nice. The levels drop and its either a good first half and a poor second, or a poor first and a fantastic second. Those stupid flag runners best not be there, I think its daft for a team like ours.
  20. Good win yesterday, second half Notts stole the show and played some very good football. First half we don't need to mention. I am still unsure how exactly we scored but I did think Cheltenham came back well. Even in the second half they didn't look like they was out of it, probably one of the better games at Meadow Lane.
  21. Whichever goalkeeper you prefer, there is no doubt that Notts County have two very capable players in contention for the number 1 jersey in Adam Collin and Ross Fitzsimons, the debate on who should start has valid points for both keepers. However, I aim to explain the difference between the two and who I feel should be the first choice keeper for the Magpies. The knee injury to Collin during the 2-1 win over Barnet within League Two saw Fitzsimons step into the main role and during a heavy spell of pressure, he made several outstanding saves which kept Notts in the game. This was the first time that I had seen Fitzsimons in action and I was genuinely impressed with his reactions, as the game was played largely on the back foot for Notts after Collin was substituted. If he'd been on the field for longer, I would easily have considered him as one of the key candidates for Man of the Match. And I thought if this was the standard he set, well I really couldn’t see how Collin could force his way back into Kevin Nolan’s squad at all. Yet I wanted to write about this subject, but only after having enough time to fairly judge what Fitzsimons brings to the table. Fans who feel that the two keepers are like-for-like are wrong in my opinion, I feel Collin’s experience and age makes him a more polished keeper at this level. However, I certainly see the potential within Fitzsimons and I think overall he’s the much better shot stopper. That said, I disagree that he is better currently and I feel he’s lacking the understanding with the back four that Collin has established over the course of this and last season. I can fully understand why Nolan prefers Collin in goal, but being an unpopular figure at Meadow lane I don’t expect many other fans to give him the credit he deserves. There’s still time however for Fitzsimons to establish himself further, all depending on when Collin returns to action. It is quite possible that we might not see him for a few more months - I believe he was expected to be out for a minimum of 8 weeks which has recently passed. And there is still little news coming out regarding how serious his knee ligament damage is. If Fitzsimons can work on his consistency - as the past few games I feel he’s been quite shaky and I would also say he has shined as much between the sticks as I assumed he would have done - there might be a chance he will retain the position even after Collin’s return to match selection, but I don’t think this is all that likely considering. Collin is more experienced, he’s switched on and alert. This season alone he seems a much different character than he was in his debut season and I think the weaknesses such as his communication have largely been worked on. He seems more confident which I imagine can be hard when the Notts defence switches off, but again we have two capable keepers and the prospect of Fitzsimons is one I feel will only grow in strength during the coming games. I would also like to point out that the position is the most scrutinized positon on the pitch, with fans perhaps being unforgiving of minor mistakes. Fitzsimons has a valuable learning experience and I do feel he will take it, it just may take some time for him to establish the position for his own.
