I hope we don't see another repeat of the weekends performance, because Bromley aren't Weymouth and we will be beaten if we perform like that again. I hope we go for it, but I dread a midfield consisting of JOB-Reeves-Doyle.

And so the pitch was waterlogged and we move on to Havant & Waterlooville revisited instead. On the one hand, this will at least give us the chance to test out Barnett at left-back and Miller in a more advanced position when there are no league points at stake. On the other, I would really like to get on with our league programme...

i have a feeling it might get called off, its been a strange season with covid and waterlogged pitches. clubs unwilling to reschedule games, expect one. dover being rubbish. i am not sure what to make of this but i do want and hope the game goes ahead. it all relies on the weather tho.

knowing our luck it will be called off.

  2. I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes. Football is all around me, so here's another round of fixtures for the prediction league. Submit your predictions and your jokers by 3pm on Saturday, good luck!

    Birmingham City v Coventry City

    Blackburn Rovers v Luton Town

    Charlton Athletic v Portsmouth

    Lincoln City v Doncaster Rovers

    Bradford City v Barrow

    Forest Green Rovers v Cheltenham

    Boreham Wood v Eastleigh

    Hartlepool United v Sutton United

  3. Slocombe 8 - Critical saves at vital points. Man of the match

Kelly-Evans 6 - Got forward like he always does. His usual solid self

Rawlinson 7 - Good distribution and won everything

Lacey 6 - Too many passes went astray in the first half but resilient defending

Miller 7 - Always got forward when the opportunity presented itself. Attacking threat adds another piece to the puzzle

Doyle 5 - Nearly cost us it all with a stupid pass to Weymouth in our own half. Grafted

Reeves 6 - Too many backwards passes again when there was a good option on further forward. Comfortable on the ball

Boldewijn 6 - Good running in the first half and a few opportunities came down his side

Rodrigues 6 - Work rate was again very good and was picking up space early on

Sam 7 - May have had a slice of luck for the goal but it came from running at the opposition which is good to see. Linked the play nicely

Wootton 6 - Battled away but nothing came for him

O'Brien 5 - Ran about when he came on. Did what he needed to do

Effiong 5 - Like O'Brien, closed out the game for Notts

  4. Jamie Ward

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Ward

Maybe in the twilight of his career now. He was always a standout player against Notts in his early years, surprised in a way he is not still in the EFL and presume Solihull are rewarding him handsomely.

Not missed from Notts...brutal but fair.

    https://uptheterras.co.uk/2021/01/30/welcome-pierre-fonkeu/

Looks more useful than Tom Walker.. perhaps we have missed out... Some good feet shown by him

  6. Slocombe 7.5  Calm and assured handling

DKE 7.5 Tremendous thunderbolt off the post and pass to Knowles

Rawls 7 Rekindled good understanding with Lacey, seems a shame Ardley broke the partnership for the playoff final

Lacey 8 Tidy defence but can pass a ball

Miller 6.5 Some dodgy defensive moments but going forward made good use of the ball

Reeves 4 Continual sloppy passing , so many square that were easily read

Doyle 6 Midfield king pin from the back, wise head in extra time

JOB 4.5 generally made no headway offensively. Too slow

Enzio 6.5 One moment of brilliance but generally ambles forwards not looking for the ball.

Wootton 7 Got to be there to score

Effiong 5 Ordinary, not really in the game

    Subs

    Knowles 6.5

Ruben 8 Touch of quality to take out 2 Solihull defenders to set Wootton up on a plate

  7. hes done well when he came on tonight, he did superb to get the ball forward for the 2nd goal. i know hes young and learning but he seems to useful to have if not only to come on from the bench.

  8. Game 21 - The Moors (A)

    Team: Solihull Moors

    Date: 26/01/2021

    Where: Damson Park

What line-up should Neal Ardley opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

We needed the 3 points badly. We got the 3 points. NA will argue that it is job done and of course he is right but..............

We have the best squad in the division. There is no way on this earth that we should be 13 points behind Torquay, I know we have games in hand, but we should be a hell of a lot closer with the players at our disposal. Some of the defeats we have suffered are real head shakers because we all know if the team was let loose we would have won those games. I have nothing against NA. I just find him too cautious. He gives other teams too much respect. We are the biggest club in this league by a mile, it's time we started letting other teams know that and play in a manner befitting a club of our stature. That's not arrogance. That's reality.

I needed to get that out. I feel better now........

It was a strange game, Ardley said he thought it would be more open. Solihull did have a lot of players behind the ball but that’s no excuse for being as poor as we were particularly in the first half. At the moment we’re relying on moments of magic to win us games, which hardly ideal!

I get the frustrations, early on in the season we were scoring but conceding - now we’ve fixed the conceding part we need to rediscover that scoring part again! I still find it odd that we’re only 16 games into the season… And I think I can look at that as a positive. Under Ardley the team seems to need a run of games to get going, we had our best spell last year over the Christmas/NY period we continued that into the second half of the season but sadly had to stop playing just when we’d won 5/5!

I’m hopeful we can replicate that type of form again.

Glad we hit the bar before we scored or I'd have missed the goals. Woke me up

  9. Time for yet another round of fixtures - these are for Tuesday and kick off at 7pm (except the Dover match, which kicks off at 7.45pm). Good luck, and remember your jokers!

    Bristol City v Huddersfield Town

    Millwall v Watford

    Wigan Athletic v Blackpool

    Rochdale v Oxford United

    Newport County v Carlisle United

    Salford City v Cambridge United

    Torquay United v Sutton United

    Dover Athletic v Barnet

  10. Dion Kelly-Evans has been superb this season, he's taken the chance to start regularly playing in an unnatural position. What are you thoughts on him potentially being replaced? If Chickensen isn't fit or good enough, then I am perfectly happy with seeing a replacement personally but otherwise I would rather see another winger arrive or central midfielder.

This is a superb article on Kelly-Evans.

  11. the trip to wrexhams racecourse ground will be televised on bt sports, this should be a good bit of income for the club and this season notts has done quite well when the main stream cameras have been present.

    https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/2021/january/wrexham-on-bt-210121/

  12. is covid/suspended games impacting notts?

what are your thoughts on the current form, does stopping and starting impact the players or do you see it more as an excuse? [maybe its a mix of the two in your opinion].

  13. Game 20 - The Gulls (H)

    Team: Torquay United

    Date: 23/01/2021

    Where: Meadow Lane

What line-up should Neal Ardley opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

I agree a point is a point, and in general terms a good one against a very good well managed team. But it was a home game and if we harbour Hope's of promotion these are the games we need to win. We have not been bad this season, just not good enough in too many games. I would say that while we may still be in contention for promotion,  we look a long way off at the moment.

    3. Super_Danny_Allsopp

      Super_Danny_Allsopp

We don't have any natural goal scorers in this team. So many times we are overplaying or missing big chances.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: If Knowles is a goal scorer then either use him or send him back and get another one in who will actually play.

    4. liampie

      liampie

it comes down to chance creation, i agree that notts are starting to over play their passing and the movement does not leave much opportunity to build confidence for the strikers as what changes do come, they have to rush to pull something off or they end up being pressured. cal roberts returning to in form would help to stretch the play but i totally disagree with those who believe effiong and wootton are the same type of player.

the wider players need to draw more space imo.

  14. Hi everyone, here's the next batch of prediction league fixtures - if you can fit it in amongst your busy social calendars, of course ;) Kick-off is Saturday at 3pm, so I'll need your submissions by then, and you have one joker each!

    QPR v Derby County

    Gillingham v Rochdale

    Ipswich Town v Peterborough United

    Portsmouth v Hull City

Leyton Orient v Forest Green Rovers

    Port Vale v Walsall

    Chesterfield v Wrexham

    Dagenham & Redbridge v King's Lynn

  15. So the NL's version of the mickey mouse cup johnstone paint trophy or whatever it's called, is the FA trophy (I think)

As with the JPT, nobody cares until they get close to the final and a potential trip to Wembley. However with no fans in attendance, it hardly seems worth the effort. Add on to that the hectic schedule we face because on postponements, then it becomes a pain in the backside.

Is anybody going to watch this? I have no interest, but we've been so starved of Notts action that I was thinking about changing my mind this morning. However, apparently Stockport's pitch is stuffed, so I will probably wait until right before KO before purchasing a streaming package, if I do at all.

Hoping for a good performance, lovely passing motion, fluid movement, Notts 90% possession, their keeper has the game of his life and they score a complete fluke... straight in from the corner, keeper no chance, their only shot of the game from their only corner....

and Notts are knocked out. What a shame.

  16. For 2 weeks:
    https://www.thenationalleague.org.uk/national-league-statement-two-week-suspension-to-n-65013

What a complete shambles that is. Suspended? What exactly do they think will change in the next 2 weeks? Clubs like Dorking have said that it is 'not safe' to carry on. You can bet every penny you have that it'd be safe enough should the government have kept giving them money. Most of these clubs that were suspending their seasons with or without NL gratification are clubs around the relegation spots... what a surprise.

I fear the National League won't be far behind.

  17. Slocombe 6 - Commanded well. Had one iffy moment but sound

Brindley 7 - Kept Whitfield quiet for large parts of the game. Great performance

Rawlinson 7 - Excellent defending and very cool with the ball at his feet

Lacey 7 - Like Rawlo, kept their usually potent frontline at bay

Kelly-Evans 7 - Got forward numerous times and linked up well with others

Doyle 8 - Superb with the ball at his feet and helped us playing through the middle

Reeves 7 - Started well but takes way way too many touches when he doesn't need to and passes it backwards when he doesn't need too

Boldewijn 5 - Lost the ball too many times and his decision making was a bit erratic. A few good runs forward

Rodrigues 7 - Continues to be a brilliant performer. So much went through him. But please just shoot more

Effiong 7 - Grafted and gave Kyle Cameron nightmares in the 1st half.

Wootton 5 - Positioning wasn't great but did what he could. How he hasn't scored that late on I will never know. It's unmissable

Sam 6 - Linked the play up nicely when he came on and put two inviting crosses into the box

O'Brien 5 - Didn't really do much when he came on but set up a great chance late on for Kyle

Miller N/A - Subbed for Brindley late on

  18. Tom Walker and Matty Wolfe's loan deals are expiring on 3rd Jan.

Do you want to keep either of them for the rest of the season?

Personally I don't think we've seen the best of Walker, but with Roberts hopefully fit mid Jan I'm not sure he'd get much game time. As for Wolfe - given he's played 1 FA Trophy game -I don't think Barnsley will let him come back!

I think we'll need another CM to provide competition for Reeves/Doyle (they aren't getting much at the moment), someone actually good enough (in NA eyes) to displace one of them.

  19. Yeovil Town can confirm that our upcoming games against Notts County and Solihull Moors have been postponed.

This is due to a positive COVID-19 case within the Yeovil camp. The club has now entered an isolation period which will end on Monday 25th January.

  20. Measured responses, though do fear for youth set up next season if we fail to get promoted

  21. Aldershot Town
