Unfortunately, plans didn't work out to get to Alfreton. Even worse, Super didn't feel well, so it might have been a blessing. I hope to go over to see him later today, but he should be well stocked with DnB because he already had two the last time I went over and I took another two with me. 😄

I've done a round of bug fixing and optimisation improvements. I didn't realise that the migration had some impact on areas but I have fixed them. I am going through each one by one, whilst unlocking new features. Eventually, there won't be anything to add. One of the people who has purchased apps of mine, he audited the dev site and told me PON is huge. 🤪

I asked, as I hoped to get feedback on the menu but I have been fighting with code to make it work. It's finally fixed, with everything behaving as intended. Fingers crossed it is.

I watched Mexico vs England the other night, I hadn't realised until going down for the K.O that the time had been put back. Once the game was underway, I really enjoyed it, and I think nutural fans will have been impressed by both teams. World Cup fever has me inspired to re-write a game like Championship Manaer 1997-98, I have grown tired of Football Manager but I must admit the latest version kept calling me due to it's World Cup mode and the football fever the tournement creates.

Some might recall I mentioned when I was back in school, I tried to write a Wrestling Sim and was learning Visual Basic after successfully writing a very basic version in QBasic (which was dos based). Well, I have even revived that idea. Not that I want to be in competition for Promotion Wars or The Wrestling Sim, but because it's been a life goal of mine. Since I am coding so much for PON/others, it's revived my interest in it. I might share updates, if anyone is interested I expect them to be a slow burner because my priority is this site.

  • Best wishes for a quick recovery @super_ram and keep cool. 👌

So @theAnticlough you and yours are going off grid eh? Have a fantastic experience and keep applying the sun cream.

What wonderful weather we are having at the moment and it will be getting warmer as the days progress. Enjoy and look after yourselves, but please be aware of the pull cold water has at this time and keep your eyes peeled if you are out and about. Plus if you know anyone that is vulnerable or has a disability and if you can, make sure they are ok, and also if help is needed be aware and offer help.

Today i have placed our little man into a shaded paddock with plenty of water and hay to keep him going.

    20260708_090301.jpg

I hope that he appreciates it and I know this will keep him cool.

Sunsoaked good morning to everyone. This morning I have been treated to a stunning vision that has seemed to have dissappeared over the last few years, but now looks to be in abundance.

How beautiful is that, made my day for sure.

Take care everyone of yourselves, loved ones and anybody who is in need. 👍♥️

You may (or may not) like this game, the idea is to connect words in a certain number of guesses. It can be frustrating because sometimes they throw in American things we don’t necessarily know.

Today was fairly easy I got them all with no mistakes.

  • He wouldn’t have been my choice and I can understand the underwhelmed reaction (maybe not so much to the extent on social media!) because last season he didn’t score any league goals, Bonnyrigg Rose is so below League football level it’s basically an anomaly goal. That doesn't fill me with confidence he’s going to be able to step up to League 1.

Obviously I hope it all clicks for him here, I get he might be more of a provider than goal-scorer but we need our forwards to score because as of now, after selling Dennis, we look to be totally reliant on Jatta when it comes to scoring goals.

With the regular season drawing to a close, my mind has already started wandering toward the summer window. Whether we manage to clinch promotion or find ourselves preparing for another go at League Two, the squad is going to need some surgery.

I wanted to open a thread to see where everyone else’s head is at regarding two things:

1. The Retained List:

We’ve got a few players with contracts winding down this June. Looking at the squad, there are some tough calls to make. Players who are out of contract:

Rod McDonald
Matty Platt
Ollie Norburn
Maz Khouyar
Keanan Bennetts

is there anyone you'd List for transfer?

and;

2. The "Wish List"

If the Reedtz brothers handed you the reins this summer, where are you spending/saving?

Personally, I think we still look thin at the back with the Platt/Macari injuries, and I’d love to see more creativity/goal threat behind Jatta to take the pressure off.

Who is on your radar? * Are there any standout players from our League Two rivals you’d like to poach?

Should we be looking at the National League again for those "hidden gems" we love so much?

I’m curious to see if anyone else has given it much thought!

Regarding Emile Acquah, the comment below from the site that's leading the rumour puts the situation into proper perspective. He would not be coming in as a main striker more to fill the squad with depth with the hope Martin Paterson can improve him. As it says a low risk signing. I would fully expect someone like Michael Mellon to be sign to gives a real goal threat.

The Verdict: Acquah signing is a low-cost risk for Notts County

With Acquah’s minimal experience in League One, combined with his poor form over the last couple of years, this signing is uninspiring for Notts County.

The things that work about it are simple: cost and depth. The Magpies lack depth up top that can match the profile of what they already have, Acquah does that, and does it for minimal cost. It is more than likely that this is a signing for bodies and profile, rather than immediate goals.

The upside of signing Acquah is still there, aside from his profile. The forward is 25, still has room to grow and will no doubt see this as a big opportunity, something he should relish, hopefully bringing his performances up a level.

It’s a risk, but a calculated and relatively cost effective one. Notts County need bodies that make sense to the way they play, Acquah is exactly that.

Unless Jatta or Ndlovu are sold, I doubt we'd need four strikers unless we're shifting our formation. I'd hope for Mellon personally over Acquah. If we sign Acquah, it kind of guarantee's that Jatta is staying and Ndlovu is back up.

There is Traore to factor in as well. So there could possibly some outgoings. I think there would have to be if we are chasing Mellon. Also taking into consideration injuries, loss of form and suspension, not withstanding playing at a higher level. 4 strikers might be needed.

Yeah a trio of low scoring strikers behind Jatta doesn't fill me with confidence going into next season right now, but hopefully that will all change by the first match.

For whatever reason Traore hasn't worked out and it's a massive gamble (probably not a good one) to expect him to come good in an even tougher division than last season. I still think we need another striker that can genuinely push Jatta for a starting spot.

Viborg FF v Notts CountyTeam - Viborg FFDate - 11/07/2026 11:00Where - Energi Viborg ArenaWhat would your starting line-up be? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be? Have your say below, join in with the Pride of Nottingham match discussion.

It will be interesting to see what lineup we go for, as to who makes which XI the starting or finishing. I hope we get to see a bit more of Ryley Reynolds, as it's good to see the prospects from our academy being given a shot to impress, especially at the stage we are building a squad.

Hopefully it will be a good run out, and we'll be competitive instead of focusing solely on defending or being out of posession.

Despite an extra £600k in central distribution monies, one can see bulk of clubs losing double that of Notts currently, as an absolute minimum

Patto mentioned after the Alfreton game, we effectively could not compete for signing Langstaff back. We missed out on Didzy seemingly over wages. We look likely to have a bottom 4 budget at this rate and also we have the conundrum of Jatta with a year left on his contract. Loan market to #Notts will be crucial come August

If the gossip is true, those two would have set us back 20,000 pounds a week. They were out of reach for most other clubs too. All the same, I expect our budget to be one of the smallest next season, and a chunk of that is being eaten up by Roos and Traore as well.

This is something I would love to go visit in person, and have a look around. See how things have changed; even going on a steam train is a wish of mine. Though, I wouldn't want to see the old 90s green buses because I have nightmares about how horrible and uncomfortable they were.

I used to hate that the one line nearest my parents would always have the older buses, even when the other lines had new shinny ones. The older ones, in the right setting, would be brilliant to see in person.

It's getting everywhere, and I don't mean snakes!

The detection is most likely a good thing, even if it is wrong. At least snakes haven't found their way onto platforms and started jumping on to take a day trip or whatever. Though, I did read recently that mice and rats are repeatedly in higher volumes on planes which I would have thought airlines would have regular checks for. Snakes rushing across the lines doesn't really compare, but best to keep the wild life save.

I am not sure what I make of this; I hope for Rotherham United's sake they get the player he can be. I think we helped Aaron Nemane find a more consistent performance, which he never seemed to replicate at MK Dons. It's strange that he wasn't able to make a bigger impact, but I hope he does well for Rotherham.

He reminds me a lot of Saka, inconsistent but with spells of brillience.

The performance he gave against Chesterfield in the National League Playoff Final is the type of performance he should set himself more often, he was class that day and played a big part in tiring them out which led to us getting more into the game. Good luck, Nemane.

So the World Cup has suddenly come alive with Messi scoring a hat trick, Mbappe scoring a brace, & Harland, not to be outdone, scoring two goals too

The two finalists from four years ago, France & Argentina are looking strong & impressive once again.

England begin their challenge for World Cup glory against Croatia in Dallas at 9pm tonight. Can Harry Kane match those other three icons & get on the score sheet to help to give England a win tonight?

  • I missed it sleeping (my alarm didn't work!) but BBC2 had a nice full replay starting at 7. Thrilling game.

Woke up today to the great news of USA 1 Belgium 4

Balogan won the free-kick for their goal. I hope Belgium make the point that without that equaliser they might have gone on to win easier, 0-5 or 0-6 and have had the chance to rest players ahead of the QF with Spain. So the damage to the integrity of the tournamnet is done. USA got a big advantage in keeping the score down, so it was worth Trump using his influence over Infantino to get the ban lifted.

I wonder if countries like Congo, Uzbekistan, Iran could have got any bans lifted. Guess we'll never know.

I recorded and watched the USA v Belgium game this morning when I woke up, I was really pleased that Belgium won, I feel they were fired up by the off field shenanigans of a certain person who I won’t name. Justice is done but FIFA don’t come out of this looking very good at all.

    The whole thing stinks.

Good luck to Tom Weal, I hope he gets the move because he's a good coach and I think we were rash to let him go. He seemed a very friendly person, who had the respect of the players and his contributions to our promotion by giving help on where to dive and the penalty training was a masterstroke in terms of success in bringing us back. Everyone played their role, including Tom.

I want to start this off by apologising for the recent downtime the site has experienced.

Whilst I know members will understand, my goal is always to provide clear communication and part of the issue has been a learning curve because I had made a few mistakes with work I am doing on the dev site. Usually, this doesn't and shouldn't cause issues with the live site but one of my mistakes caused an inifity loop which really took it out of the server.

So, why goodbye? No, my intention wasn't to clickbait those that care into thinking the worst.

It's me announcing the brand new home page! But wait, there's more! (There will be more on this as I am rolling out many improvements to the Pride of Nottingham website).

If you haven't yet seen the new design of the home page: ^ click the button above, before you do that continue reading. In the spoiler below I have screen grabbed the home page so you don't have to leave this page, and you can leave a comment below. Sneaky, I know, but please do leave a comment. Tell me off for the down time, or simply let me know what you think about this announcement.

Don't click here, there's nothing to see!

In addition to this, improvements have been made to our next match feature. It's had an overhaul in design, and several major improvements. When the new season begins, there will also be a button to vote for the Pride of Nottingham Man of the Match, so be sure to get your votes in!

If you visit via a mobile, this won't excite you on bit but I have made improvements to the navigation by extending it.

You may have noticed the colour shadows around comments? Well, the original poster of a topic gets one and then so does team members. This isn't to make any standout as being more important, it's just to help identify people based on their role and involvement in the discussion.

I have also implemented a way whereby members can choose their theme by simply clicking a link, in the case below it will be a screenshot with the link attached. I highly encourage members to choose what they prefer; all have a light and dark mode.

Some may have noticed I haven't been as active; this is due to spending the majority of my time coding. It's rather addictive, but I wanted to make headway with changes before the start of the season and things are going very well. If you make it through reading this, I am pleased to inform you we now have a history section and I have put a lot of thought in not only crediting sources but also making it standout as being different.

The following features are coming very, very soon!

More quizzes, plus a few word based challenge games will be added! The featured page will be returning as 'Our Pride' a digital content fan zine which breaks the best bits of the site up for you to digest and share! (please do spread the good word) - community analytics (subscribers and team members only, sorry!), community activity, groundhoppers app, monthly awards, a join the community page to encourage involvement/regisrations and more.

Thank you for all your effort, and contributions!

Regards,
The Gaffer, Chris

  • the new homepage looks brilliant, its to the point and showcases what we are about. pon is a great site and deserve more interactions from fans, i hope people start to see just how great it is and what goes into it by a single person. good job, gaffer.

The service status page now sends alert emails when something is going on, and I will be sure to maintain the page when things do happen.

Some new features will be in testing mode on the live site shortly, and others will become the norm like my ehancement to the desktop's navigation and the history section. =)

    Stay tuned for more updates.

I have made some improvements to the performance of some resources which had issues after our migration, I have seen optimised them for the new server and fixed many bugs within them.

Hopefully, I will be able to get the history app live tomorrow. I have been expanding on it, and fixing issues that only came up when in the live environment. Locally, I am very satisfied with the app but very eager for feedback to make even more improvements.

  • Last season Notts had the tenth highest number of empty seats on average out of the 92.

Our gates have improved massively as we all know, but from an occupancy rate of around 25% to 50%, so lots of room for improvement before we need to worry about needing a bigger ground. Next season hopefully over 60% occupancy. I've always thought around 75% is ideal - enough to feel pretty full and create a good atmosphere most games, but with room for new/floating fans when they want to come. I think we could get there if we keep making progress.

    image.png

Our place in that is definitely going to change next season.

We'll push up to 65% maybe (if results are OK) and hopefully only about 7000 seats

(seats are for banners anyway, in my house I've followed Notts' example and stopped the family using the chairs and sofas - I cover them with stuff I want to promote)

  • Mellon, 22, has had productive loan spells with clubs including Morecambe, Dundee and Oldham Athletic. He's a quick, hard-working centre-forward who likes to run in behind defences, and many see him as a player with room to develop further. So probably one for the future if we sign him.

The move is being discussed by journalists and supporters, but it remains at the negotiation stage, from what I've seen.

If we do complete the signing, he would add pace and competition up front, particularly if the Notts are looking to strengthen for life in League One.

The biggets concern is the injury to his hamstring, but he's a very bright young player and one who is technically very good. At 22, it seems less of a risk to take him on than someone nearer to 30 as the injuries start to impact you far more. Shoulder, back, and knee issues are quite common in sports.

Michael Owen had a lot more problems caused due to his sheer pace, that led to him struggling but I wouldn't say it impacted his career all that much. Obviously, Michael Mellon is a different player but I do think he would still be around Burnley had he not been so unfortunate. He's someone I rate, he's always performed well against us and his father was a decent enough player.

We are the type of team that can help players, and whilst some might think I have changed my tune. Cal Roberts is the example I started my point here with.

However, I am certain Cal will do well for us and if we have good options within the team we can offer him protection. He's a different scenerio to Mellon. I would hope there's truth in the rumours, but I do have faith we will identify the right players needed. It's just imprtant we don't think we can get away with being short in the striker department.

  • The transfer comes after two seasons at Millwall, where he has found it difficult to establish himself as a regular starter in the Championship. Although he showed flashes of quality, he scored only five league goals during his time there.

For Langstaff, the move to Salford is a chance to return to the level where he was so prolific. You'll remember his remarkable spell with us at County, when he fired us to promotion from the National League and then won the EFL League Two Golden Boot. Salford are aiming for promotion, and Langstaff has said that ambition was a major reason for joining the club.

This move is likely to be of interest to our supporters. A lot of fans have expressed that they're pleased to see him back in League Two, where many believe he can rediscover the goalscoring form that made him such a fan favourite.

Good luck to him, I hope he resurrects his career and becomes as prolific as before. 👍

True @Michael D Pie.. After two seasons warming the bench, the last thing he wanted would have been to drop into League 1 and end up on the bench again. This way he'll be an automatic starter, will be able to get plenty of games and goals under his belt, and he'll probably be in L1 after a year anyway. It's just a shame it had to be at that plastic club.

I wished it had been any other League Two, even Grimsby or Chesterfield would have been better. The thing which I don't like, is that if they have spent money, either on transfer or wages, to the point it matches Millwall. How on earth are they getting away with it? They have been cutting costs, sacked a good manager (albeit he's a k**b) and have lost quite a lot of money which I don't see them being able to recover in any legitmate means in my opinion.

That said, it would have been nice to see Macaulay Langstaff return to us but League Two is probably his level in all fairness.
