I think a very important takeaway from the Bristol Rovers win was the exceptional spirit showed by the team throughout the match, especially after going down to 10 men after the sending off.

This spirit was characterised by the high energy, determination & fighting spirit demonstrated by the players during the match, which also lead to defensive solidity, & a feeling that the team will not be defeated come what may.

If the team can maintain this fighting spirit, it could prove very important especially with such a tough December to come, against some of the best sides in League 2.

I think that Hall being a reasonable finisher & similarly effective as an AM may have influenced Martin Paterson's thinking in keeping Dennis as a fresh striker to come on in the second half of matches or when needed due to injury. Of course Hall's pending suspension may well change that thinking.

biggest for me was how we the fans stayed behind the players and it felt like we were with them in spirit, our support is generally very good away from home but this match most games from when we gained promotion. we felt united together and it made the will all the more special. the lads did brilliantly to shut up the shop and sneak the win. we did not deserve it, and it reminded me of how some teams have been lucky against us but its nice that we are on that side for a change.

Yes, he was very lively and made lots of good forward runs for them. I’d say sign him up but when you look at his career for an attacker he doesn’t tend to score many goals (I guess you could say that about all the Bristol forwards though!)

I thought Tom Lockyer was good at the back for them too, he was one step ahead of Jatta for most of it. Now that we’ve won considering what he went through I can say it was good to see him back playing!

Yeah, I was impressed as well - their best player.

But as a 'winger' he might not fit a position in our set up. Maybe the kind of player to consider in the off season, out of contract, when there's time to work out how they'd be integrated into the team

he is also very frustrating with his simulation efforts and getting in the faces of the opposition, i would not want him to do that for notts but otherwise he did look a very capable player.

  • i thought both teams did well, mk dons might feel unlucky but we share a lot in common with them. i think the pressure makes our defence switch off, and i feel the same way about mk dons. they are a dirty group of players, who seemed to enjoy being rough in stages where they tried to manage the game and break up our momentum but they did play some good football.

their first two goals, those could have really punished us, and i think matthew dennis strike is the get of jail card we needed. as it came from nowhere, and even tho they went back in the lead. it showed us we could score, and they made a similar blunder by allowing jatta in.

the game would have felt a natural draw, but to sneak the win does feel all the more satisfying.

tom iorpend was unlucky to hit the post earlier in the game and to see him win it for us in the dying minutes, well it makes one of those match days where you feel lucky and over the moon to have all 3 points.

Batten down the hatches tomorrow & Wednesday, because Storm Bram is approaching the UK & Ireland from the Azores, with very strong winds for some parts of the Country, particularly Northern Ireland & Scotland. As if we didn't need more rain, we are going to get it.

As a patient of a Myeloma clinic, reading this article gives people hope

It is a great read. Thanks for posting it @Piethagoram

I do hope that this treatment can also help Patients that have a Primary Cancer because the blood can carry Cancer cells to other parts of the body, a process called Metastasis.

There are many cases where a Primary Cancer has been beaten only for the Cancer to turn up somewhere else. This new treatment could bring hope to all those who have found themselves battling the big C.

Lando Norris wins F1 drivers' title in Abu Dhabi Grand Pr...

McLaren's Lando Norris wins his first Formula 1 drivers' championship by finishing third in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

As we're underway in Germany too (apart from the Bundesliga) it's time for a little update!

I'll start with the teams we played in pre-season. Darmstadt have enjoyed a good start to the season, winning both their opening games and scoring five goals in the process. Kaiserslautern lost their opening game but won their televised clash against Schalke thanks to a debatable penalty. I wasn't very impressed by them but it's early days.

In the fourth-level Regionalliga Südwest, Stuttgarter Kickers have also won two out of two, including an impressive win against promotion favourites SV Sandhausen. So a positive start, but that league is a bit of a shark tank and only one team goes up.

So all in the garden is rosy? Not quite. SV Waldhof Mannheim, i my view Germany's coolest club by far, have supplied plenty of drama and the parallels to Notts are unnerving sometimes. The club appointed a young coach six games before the end of last season and just about squeaked to third division safety. However, this coach (let's call him Dominik) was already under contract at another club as a youth coach from July onwards. Hence, Waldhof spent most of the summer in negotiations to release Dominik from his contract there (during which time barely a handful of players arrived) and ended up paying a transfer fee for him. A six-figure sum was rumoured; not bad for an under-19s coach.

Two league games and one point later, Dominik had managed to fall out with the DoF, the club's best striker and the long-serving club captain (who departed) and was sacked. He was replaced by the head coach of the Luxembourg national team the following day. On the plus side, the solid goalkeeper they let go has been replaced by a tall Dutch bloke, so what could possibly go wrong?

I had the dubious honour of watching the World Cup draw live yesterday (on the telly, I wasn't sent an invite). As this is a non-political forum, I will limit myself to saying that it was "interesting" and that most karaoke singers would put the Village People to shame. FIFA lost the plot years ago, and the next World Cup having 48 teams is evidence of this.

Anyway, this is our group:

England
Croatia
Ghana
Panama

Any thoughts?

Croatia were the one team from pot B I wanted us to avoid, but I don't really know how strong they are compared with the past. With it being the first match, I can imagine it being a cagey affair with neither side willing to risk too much. With two thirds of the teams from the first round going through, this might also finally be Scotland's year to progress past the grop stage.

  • I saw the content and how long it was to go on for and decided unanimously not to watch. This wonderful stage of the best footballers this planet can offer has been turned into a Circus for money makers. No thought of climate, travel distances and cost have been taken into consideration. A chance in a lifetime has been made unrealistic for most. Players once again are expected to train and perform in temperatures most would only lie in. To top it all that person @Fan of Big Tone talked about thinks it's his and his only show and that's all you'll hear next year, and as far as peace goes, he's done nothing other than wine and dine the person who awards this inanimate object???

Yeah, I turned it on saw Robbie Williams on the stage singing and turned it off. I agree about that peace prize thing it was just laughable, what subject that they have nothing to do with are they going to branch into next the FIFA Food Awards? It was the most unnecessary event ever, 99.9% of real football fans just wanted to watch the actual draw take place, no singing, no dancing, no celebs and for it to have been done in about 20 minutes.

Anyway as for the actual draw I think it’s about as good as you get. Pot 2, Australia and Iran aside, had a number of very good teams but Croatia are one of the strongest teams in that section, they are still reliant on their older players but they beat France in the Nations League this year. Panama are ranked 30 in the world right now, no idea how that happened but they are not the 30th best team in the world and I can’t say I know much about Ghana, they didn’t qualify for AFCON though so they clearly aren’t that strong a side.

Croatia is the only real tough match for me, if we can't beat Ghana or Panama than frankly we don't deserve to get out the group!

Actually @menzinho I would be in favour of a FIFA Food Award. Infantino and cronies could descend on every greasy van parked outside a football ground in the UK to help decide who gets the prestigious gong.

Watching the FIFA powers that be crawl and scrape to the rich and powerful is nauseating, but that's hardly new. It's probably an accurate reflection of the top levels of our game actually - not only will clubs accept money from any old despot to get an advantage, the fans will also worship said despot. Can we be surprised that FIFA acts the same way?

(Steps off soapbox) Anyway, we've at least lucked out a bit with kick-off times, with the possible exception of the round of 16 if we win our group and make it that far (I think that's 1am my time).

Good morning, it’s a new day, a new week and a new month. It’s a miserable start to the day weather wise.

Today I’m off to the QMC to have a chunk cut out of my leg to check for skin cancer, I’m not looking forward to it but it’s necessary I guess.

I hope everyone is well, please keep these chats going and let us know what’s happening in your life.

  • @Michael D Pie. it sounds like you had a great time. We went to a Center Parks a few years ago, it was somewhere up north and we had red squirrels feeding near our lodge, I remember it was a lovely holiday. I’m glad you enjoyed your family break, family time is important.

Today is a chilly start here the temperature only just stayed above zero overnight. Our granddaughter is coming tonight for a sleepover while her brother is at scout camp and their mum and dad are having a date night.

We are going to order a takeaway curry from our favourite restaurant and watch a film.

It was cold as we packed the car to leave this morning. That sounds idyllic @Fan of Big Tone like you say family, moreso these days is so important. They bring light and effervescence to a dull old world. Staying in the nice warmth and enjoying food together is so special, something that has been done and loved for centuries. I hope you all have a wonderful time together. 👍👌

Morning all, it’s a bit warmer this morning at 9 degrees, last night our granddaughter stayed overnight, we had a nice curry from takeaway from the local restaurant, it cost £73 😲 but there’s plenty left over for probably two more meals for me and Mrs. T. After our curry we were going to watch a film but Chloe is studying media at college and has to watch films all the time so we ended up watching Masterchef.

What’s everyone doing with themselves today as Notts aren’t playing? After Chloe’s gone we’ll have a walk to walk off the curry but that’ll be in the afternoon as she’ll be in bed until at least mid day, typical teenager. 😂

A smash & grab plus a character building win for a ten man Notts today against a spirited Rovers side that hit the woodwork three times.

So who's your PON Man of the Match for Notts today?

The players I have chosen for you to make your choice are as follows.

Roos, Macari, Platt, Bedeau, Tsaroulla, Iorpenda, Robertson, Bennetts, Grant, Jatta, Ness, Dennis, Kouhyar.

I haven't included Hall today.

Who’d have thought it, I’m tipping Roos for player of the season, I reckon he’ll end up a Notts County legend, fans will sing his name in years to come. joker

    Then again…….

    Then again…….

A few more performances like we saw against Bristol R, starting against MK Dons, could possibly cement his place in the side for the rest of the season. Even if he did, Notts still need another goalkeeper in January to challenge him for his place.

Kelle Roos on his better days is a good L2 keeper for us. His weakness on high balls compensated by really good shot-stopping. He’s also shown that he can bounce back quickly from a poor performance.

What does he need to do? No more poor games up to the window. And something like no more than 3 or 4 over the remaining 27 games. In a word - consistency.

What’s Dutch for ‘authority’? That’s what Slocs has to scream 100 times a week on either catches or punches in training. If Roos has that, he’ll be ok.

Hall will be out v MK, right?

Who should get his place?

I hope MP doesn't bring Norburn in and push Iorpenda forward. I'd like to see somebody else given a go there. Maybe JJ will be back. Maybe he'll go for 2 up front instead.

What would you like to see? I'd go Jarvis who was great in the corresponding fixture last season.

  • Dennis should start in my view.

I’d go with Macari, Grant, Robertson, Iorpenda & Tsaroulla behind Dennis & Jatta. Ness, Platt & Bedeau at the back.

I somehow doubt that will be MP’s choice tbh but I believe that gives us the width, mobility, physical presence and goal threat that we need.

I agree @YoopEyes that Dennis should start upfront & Platt is now a fixture in the back three & Ness should also be in there.

I also think Kouhyar should start on the left. I do believe though that Martin will continue with the one striker formation. I've been pushing for Dennis to play behind Jatta in a similar role to Didzy when he was here.

But Martin will probably keep Dennis on the bench, or he may even start Dennis and bench Jatta as Jatta hasn't been 100% on the ball lately.

I agree Dennis deserves a start, perhaps we should start a petition, if we get enough signatories it has to be debated in parliament. joker

However I trust MP to make the right decision as to who comes in for Hall, he hasn’t done too bad so far.

Really sad to see

I hope that the Club will survive, possibly as a phoenix club. I hope that something can be worked out very quickly, so that the people of Salford can continue to have a leading Rugby League Club to support.

I’m not into rugby but you’ve got to feel sorry for the fans of any club that goes under like this, they are a big part of the community. The ripples are far reaching because creditors will probably get next to nothing which obviously affects their businesses too.

The running of a League club costs lots money. The amount of money required is increasing season by season.

Exeter have done very well to compete as a professional league club whilst being owned by it's supporters

Already questions are being asked of whether Exeter can survive in League One by being Trust-owned and whether the time has come to seek investment from elsewhere.

Trying to balance the finances by selling players for profit, & relying on revenue raised from Cup runs can be a risky business.

I think that it is inevitable that Exeter will probably need a large cash injection from an investor or a number of investors to survive as an EFL Club.

Whether the club can then continue with the Supporters Trust having a majority shareholding, will be another matter that will need to be considered if an independent benefactor comes in.

Right you lot, here are some more fixtures. Post your predictions by 3pm on Saturday and remember your joker. Good luck!

There's no prediction league on Saturday as Leagues One and Two are taking part in a new-fangled competition called "the second round of the FA Cup" (no, I haven't heard of it either). But there will be a round the Tuesday after, so keep your eyes peeled for the fixtures here at the weekend. Thanks for playing everyone 🙂

Good morning it’s a dry start here for a change, hopefully it will stay dry as we want to have a look around Scarborough, maybe some fish and chips for lunch.

I hope everyone has recovered from the disappointing result at the weekend? Remember it’s only a game no one died.

Have a good day everyone.

  • Morning all, what a beautiful morning, who woke up happy after yesterdays results, well most of us I suspect but maybe @super_ram wasn't so happy about his teams result but I know he’ll be happy for us.

In other news Mrs. T is laid up with a bad back, she was bending down to fill the dishwasher when something went, possibly a trapped nerve or pulled muscle but very painful, so yours truly will be doing all that needs doing today while she recovers.

I hope Mrs.T recovers asap.I know from experience how painful a simple bend down can be but don't overdo it yourself.

I didn't expect my team to win yesterday but am disappointed they couldn't hang on for at least a draw.I was very pleasantly surprised to learn at full time that Notts had won as I knew they had a player sent off a I was expecting the worst.

Oh wow, yeah a quick google search tells you that it probably is Jaiden Campbell-Ryce, the son of Jamal. He was at Forest Academy’s and then Doncaster’s.

Also Darren Fletcher the commentator, his son signed for the academy this year so that’s him in the side from the Wrexham match too.

I know there’s probably a bit to do with safe-guarding in terms of posting tons of content about under 18’s, but at the same time other clubs do provide updates so it clearly can be done. It would be nice to know a bit more and report on the potential next generation of Notts players.

This game was a big test for Notts & it would demonstrate how the squad stand in the League 2 scheme of things, & whether they can compete at a high level against the top sides.

With some very tough games to come against the leading sides in December, I believe it was important for Notts to put in a good performance against Colchester, but unfortunately it didn't happen, & Colchester were simply the better side on the day.

Why? Because they won the tactical battle. Colchester were another side to come to ML with a plan. A plan that we see time & time again by opponents at ML. Notts couldn't better it once again.

I think that Notts have to look at their present style of play, because the way Notts are playing is not good enough to counter the way opponents set up against them especially at ML.

It doesn't help when Notts give away goals that could have been easily avoided. Unfortunately, I don't think that our number 1 goalkeeper is good enough & until a change is made, Notts will continue to concede soft goals like they have been doing from the beginning of the season.

Another big point, 8 out of the 10 outfield players who lined up against Colchester played under Maynard, & Maynard's team had a poor record against the top 10 teams last season. This side struggled just as the side struggled last season to break teams down. It is also conceding soft goals just like last season.

The January transfer window cannot come quick enough.

  • I think if we notched up the tempo and the quickness of our passing and not press so high up the pitch, we might be able to get some balls behind their defense. Otherwise it's quite tedious build up play that gets to the 25 yard area, no one shoots, we play it out wide, we either cross it or call foul and if we do cross it, Jatta's not getting their first. Rinse and repeat.

There should be changes for the next game. Griffiths and Platt for Roos and Ness. Jones for Bennetts hopefully.

Jatta would merit dropping on Saturday's performance alone, with the most glaring fault being not challenging whole-heartedly to win possession for us. Dennis was L2 player of the month and bombing along in those early games, but as a substitute he's been really poor.

Both on the bench and Grant up top might give them the jolt they need.

We need to be stronger in our shape at the back. Pushing men forward to try and break the opposition down should not mean we fall apart defensively.

Colchester showed where we are weak and other teams are beginning to notice it too. The real issue is poor decision making, which takes away control of the game and destroys the momentum we are trying to build.

  • i might not have liked what i may have posted if i had done it sooner, but i left frustrated and disappointed.

we are our own worst enemies when it comes to games like this.

if only we could be tighter at the back and more alert, with less jumping in before making a decision on balance. i know football is a quick game, but its costing us and its not just roos, but the defending is not acceptable at times. we manage games unbalanced when the pressure is on.

all the good we did in attacking the play, was left undone by the state of the goals we conceded and in a game really notts should have won. i am not being biased saying this, because we were in control and looking good until colchester equalised. we looked destined to draw, until martin paterson decides to go all in and i do think the choice was right. i just think we could have been a bit more balanced at the back, i wished he had kept nick tsaroulla on.

keanan bennetts was great running at players, but tsaroulla offered more at the back. only to see bennetts come off, with two fresh wingers even though will jarvis and maziar kouhyar did well. which of those were defensive? neither, both seem to be more switched on at attacking.

colchester was better than harrogate town in terms of performance, but they were just as bad with the time wasiting, theatrics and all that ugly stuff cheap teams do to get the upper hand when being out footballed.

    13 hours ago, theAnticlough said:

I defended Kelle Roos on here. I thought he deserved the chance to overcome a poor start and show what he can do. The goalkeeping style I can live with it. And he did stabilise and overcome what we thought were early nerves to start playing better.

But to regress like he did against Colchester? To go right back to those first early games, after a few months of training and a chance to work on your weaknesses and get your mind right? Yes, December is a scary prospect.

hes too eccentric, i dont think he puts much thought into some of his decisions. very rash at thinking, i mean he made a good save late on by punching the ball out for a corner, but his first decision was woeful. these decision can prove costly, and he needs to be reigned in. why punch a cross in as if you are superman in the direction of attacking players? especially after choosing to slide into a defender earlier on in the game and being lobbed. its just madness. its nothing personal, but i dont think hes good enough or smart enough to realise.

You only have to look at the problems we had last season against the top sides, then realise that 8 of the 10 outfield players playing for Notts yesterday were in Maynard's squad last season. Where's the physicality we were promised?

I think the issue could be more how the safe passing patterns are still ingrained in a lot of our players, like you said the majority of that team played last season. I've not been overly concerned with our physicality this season we stood up to the barrage from Barnet and competed really well against Bromley early this season at home and they are about as physical as you get in this league, so we can do it.

We were promised more physically at the start of the season but we are still being bullied somewhat by these physical sides. Notts simply have to start holding their own against these sides to have any chance of getting success this season.

Another MoM for Calvin Miller today - 1 goal, 1 assist in Falkirk's 0-3 away win at Dundee Utd. Falkirk up to 5th in the EPL. He's the reigning Scottish Championship Player of the Year and his career really seems to be taking off.

I liked him when he played for Notts and I can remember being disappointed when he signed for Chesterfield over us.

Pretty sure his arrival on loan was the first time we properly switched to a back 3 and wing-backs too, I can't remember Notts ever playing a back 3 and wing-backs as their main formation in my time supporting us (that goes back to about the mid/late 2000s). Was he our first ever left-wingback?

He can't have been Menzinho. It's easy to work out because there was a players' meeting and then Ardley changed the system, not too many games before he was sacked, and we've hardly ever changed since then - away at Yeovil it was. Let's see

Checked it. Our first LWB of this era was Jordan Barnett! : )

Calvin Miller was atrocious at first (that was probably under Ardley) but when IB brought Ruben in from the cold everything clicked and Miller benefitted and put in a spectacular run of games and really showed his potential.

I thought C'field was a failure for him so I'm a little surprised he's one of the stand-out players in the SPL this season. Looks like his next move will be significantly up from Falkirk
