It'll be interesting to follow their progress, especially with the Notts link. All the players arriving at once reminds me of us after relegation, although we at least had an experienced manager to mould them into a team. Anything other than a relegation battle would be excellent for them this season.

After studying my spreadsheet, it seems that @theAnticlough and @The Heff's scores have been swapped around for the last three rounds (due to an issue sorting your names into alphabetical order in Excel). I've updated the table for the round accordingly. But as both of you got exactly the same number of points overall over the last three rounds (17), it doesn't affect the overall table or your positions.
Sorry about the slight hiccup and thanks for bringing it to my attention in time! I assure you that nothing dastardly is going on 😁
Having studied my spreadsheet I can see you've got loads of my points wrong and I should actually be above @magpiejue 🤪

I enjoyed the short cameo from Tyrese Hall last night - I think he's going to be an enjoyable player to watch this season.
It was good to see his involvement in the 4th goal for example.
But it's the playing style that caught my eye. Maybe not many on here watch the NBA but he reminded me of Darius Garland the Cleveland point guard, the way he moves and plays. I've always enjoyed watching Garland plays and I think it'll be the same with Hall.
A football comp is not so easy for me? Any ideas? Phil Foden a bit?
At 2-1, especially given the way we conceded, I genuinely feared the worst.
It's not a feeling I have often felt during the Reedtz era, but a few times under both Luke Williams and Stuart Maynard. Perhaps more the latter, but you can take faith in the way we tend to be good at attacking. I did feel like Shrewsbury could get back into the game. Roos, to his credit, did make a very important save to keep us in it. I don't feel as confident in him, but I will give credit when it's due.
Notts showed a good amount of fight, which is part of the reason why we managed to keep our momentum.
I am not a fan of the media teams hyping of the game, "We blew Shrewsbury away with a dominant performance." Notts did very well, but it wasn't quite as dominant as they make it sound. Shrewsbury did show some fighting spirit, although you can see they are down on their luck.
It makes me concerned about it backfiring; I mean, they take caution when we lose, but this is our first win in five games, including the League Cup.
It's a good win, so I am not dismissing it, but I always think about how the club could handle disappointment, expectations, and lead a more healthy stance. Rather than using overly enthusiastic and catchy titles. In the wake of recent weeks, you just have to be mindful. At 2-1. Shrewsbury almost got back into it.
Blew, and dominant might appease people at home, but it does remind me of glossing over things.
There's one last thing I wanted to mention - Shrewsbury's number 11 was Anthony Scully and is the son of former Notts winger Tony Scully. He reminded me a lot of him too.
Good morning, it’s a dull cloudy start to the day here.
Today Mrs. T has got an appointment at QMC at lunchtime I hope we can find a parking space, if not I’ll drop her off and find one further afield, then pick her up when she’s done.
Apart from that there’s not much else happening here, have a good day everyone.

@CliftonMagpie I hope you get the job.
I'm preparing for my trip to watch Ireland vs Japan in the Women's World Cup next Sunday in Northampton. I'm staying in London. I've never been to Northampton so I'm looking forward to that.
All the best with the job interview @CliftonMagpie routine is something we can't do without.
It's instilled into us from day one, for me it's an important part of my life, couldn't function without it. Having routine really helps where mental health is concerned also, easing day to day woes and worries.
That is one reason I am still working at 68, it gives me a purpose which in turn schedules the day in advance making everything routine.
It’s matchday so me and Chloe will be popping down the Lane to see if Notts can get another win, back to back would be nice. Who else is going?
Who's your Man of the Match v Shrewsbury? 64 members have voted
A welcome win for Notts tonight against Shrewsbury. The best performance of the season by far, & some good individual performances to go with it.
There are a few candidates for the Man of the Match tonight. I have included the first eleven & two subs for your choice. Those players are,
Roos, McDonald, Bedeau, Aljofree, Jones, Iorpenda, Norburn, Palmer, Dennis, Tsaroula, Cotter, Gordon, Grant

I'm absolutely delighted to announce that for his outstanding performance against Shrewsbury, Nick Tsaroulla has been voted as the Pride of Nottingham's Man of the Match. He received a record vote tally too of 53 votes from PON members.
It’s brilliant to see so many fans vote for Nick’s performance. It shows how much his return means to the team and the supporters. We’re at a point where a bit of spark can make all the difference. Nick’s energy and sharpness could be just what we need to lift the level on the pitch.
He does look like an excellent player; we just need to keep him fit and performing at his best. Well done to Nick, that’s impressive, votes in his favour.

We do need a nice tasting traditional Pukka Pie. And Notts need another proven striker who can score goals too.
The pies sold at Notts are hit and miss. They don’t fill you up and the quality isn’t great. They feel like something you’d expect from a football ground in the 1980s, not today. There are much better choices out there. Pukka pies, for example, are everything the current ones aren’t, tasty, reliable, and satisfying.
If the issue is profit or trying to avoid waste, then it’s time to look for a better local supplier. There must be someone nearby who can offer good pies at a fair price.
The bottom line is #Notts miss out on a sale. Whoever the current supplier is, Notts have lost me as a customer.

Certainly Not a First Choice Keeper for the Magpies. A Good Back Up Maybe. I Often Wonder How Tiernan Brookes Would Have Done, Had He Stayed At The Lane.
Notts have missed a trick not bringing Archie back to ML, but I do wish him luck at Morecambe. I think he will do a good job for them between the sticks.
On the evidence of recent seasons, it won't be too long now before some of the 92 Head Coaches bite the dust, and most of those will be in the bottom 2 or 3 of their divisions. It's very unfair and reactive but it seems to get earlier and earlier each season these days.
So here's the distasteful question....we're sitting on 1pt from 9, but what will it take for MP to keep his job out of 30, 10 games?
For sure, if we were sitting on 1pt after 10, he'd be a goner, and probably earlier than 10. But what does he need as a minimum in order to get another batch of games and move forward? My guess is a modest 8pts from 10 games W2 D2 L6, but that kind of haul would suggest borrowed time.
Lets hope that this question is completely redundant after the next two home games.

Well we now have that first win and it was pretty emphatic, how are people feeling now?
It was a good win & an emphatic win too. We saw periods of good Notts play, but also periods when they looked disjointed & gave away the ball quite a lot. Hopefully the win will give the team lots of confidence.
A much better assessment of where the team will be is when they meet Bromley on Saturday. We have Jatta returning so him coming back should give Notts more of a threat.
Finally the Notts Faithful have something to Cheer about. Despite the 4-1 Victory though it was against a very poor Shrewsbury side. Realistically last night's Win as only Papered over the Cracks Bromley will be much Stiffer Competition. As @Robbie said there were times Notts looked disjointed and a Good Team would take advantage of those situations, and Notts could find themselves with all manner of problems.
Maybe it's time for MP to give the Young Keeper a Run in the side, because the way Roos is playing it can't Inspire the Defenders in Front of him. And just because A.J. is set to Return, don't expect him to get back straight back into his scoring groove, he'll need time to adapt to the tweaked settings of the Notts Model. It wouldn't surprise me, if Jatta was on the Bench with MP bringing him on in the second half. Lets also hope A.J's Head is also in the Game and his Agent's not continuing whispering in his ear, telling him how better it would be if he left the Lane. Last night's Victory should have instilled some Confidence in the Team. But One Swallow Does Not A Summer Make.
I find it strange how far some fans go to show their frustration, especially those who don’t attend games but still post constant negative comments. It’s fine to be upset, but letting it spill over into everything you write makes it seem like you’re just being bitter and unsupportive.
There’s no pride in celebrating the good days if you can’t accept the bad ones too. Saying no one put in any effort just because the result didn’t go our way isn’t fair.
Notts were poor against Barrow, no doubt about that, but not every player had a bad game. Some still tried to make things happen.
Reading the replies to the Pride of Nottingham’s Man of the Match post made me wonder how these fans would feel if their own jobs were judged in the same way, based on how their company or colleagues perform. It’s not right to throw abuse around just because the team had a bad day.

I’ve said before that there’s a simple solution and one that I’ve adopted and that is I don’t read any fans comments on social media, I look at posts made by the Notts media team but I don’t read the comments underneath and I never comment myself.
If I want to comment on the match or vote for a man of the match I do so on here where by and large the fans are mostly reasonable with their comments. I do hope that this place doesn’t get like Twitter or Facebook.
It's the rise of social media's "every voice is counted" culture. It's easier to gain traction by saying something more shocking and vitrolic than the last. It's the main reason I left most social media but I felt somewhat at a loss when I left Twitter due to comrardarie you build with other fans. That's been rectified since joining a couple of different forums, but it's certainly evident that the dispondancy fire grows quickest.
I think with that, alongside the recent peroid of underperformance for Notts (minus getting promoted and the Munto - early Trew years), it's easier to be a bit bitter and self-loathing than it is to be optimistic - as to protect you when we (inevitably - see I did it too!) fail.
I try and be optimistic and failing that, a realist, as I've grown up with "Notts are ****" with the man who bloody took me there in the first place!
It seems to me that the (Un) social Media has a lot to answer for. Going back before the birth of these Platforms, if Notts Lost a Match or a Player had a Bad Game, Fans would go down to the Pub Rant and Rave about how Bad the Magpies played or how a Certain player Performed. After a few Pints Fans would Go Home and have time to Reflect fully on the teams/Players performance and all the Negatives would be Forgotten and Fans would be Ready and waiting for the Following Saturday.
However with the Rise of Platforms Like X and Facebook, being just a Click Away, Fans can instantly Vent their Anger at the Team or a Certain Player, without thinking about the Game and giving their emotions time to settle down and for them to think and Give a more Balanced View.
Lets take the Matty Palmer point. Fans were asked who was their Notts Man Of The Match. And after some deliberation and Thought Matty was Chosen. However someone who was obviously Riled Up and Annoyed with the Magpies Loss Vented his Anger at the PON Members Vote. If he had taken the time to think about Matty's performance instead of Instantly reacting to the Result, he may have understood the Reason for Matty's Win. If on the other hand the Poster was a Barrow Fan, then obviously he didn't read the Post Correctly, viewing only what he thought he had read and Not what actually the Vote was about the NOTTS Man Of The Match.

The emergency services did a great job. And thanks to Newport too.
Yes really great news, pleased for all his friends and family and shows just how invaluable all the medical support he received was.
Nick played well when he came on as a substitute against Barrow getting an assist for the Notts goal. Pleased to have him back in the team

I like the way Tsaroulla takes players on, he is better than Gordon who doesn’t seem to have that ability. Totally agree his finishing has been poor. Surely though with some help from the coaches, he should be able to improve this part of his game. If he can he would be a real threat in the final third.
I wish I could share the confidence in Jarvis tbh. He just seems an enigma to me.
The occasional mazy run, a random spectacular shot/goal and a turn of speed are the highlights. In between there has been a lot of ineffective “downtime” and a tendency to go missing in action. I don’t doubt his talent, just his ability to produce meaningful performances. A “cameo” from the bench is how I see him - unless he can harness consistency with his rare bouts of genius.
its great to have nick tsaroulla back, hes a very good player and one of the standard outs from last seasons recruitment which all very much looked great additions. i am more confident personally in will jarvis than i am with kellan gordon. i hope gordon proves himself, but i dont think he was brilliant last season and he has been poor so far this campaign which is why we miss someone like tsaroulla because hes very direct.
which I do recommend, featuring @ARLukomski in full flow!
The sound quality isn’t great. It goes up and down, which makes it hard to enjoy properly. Because of that, it’s not enjoyable. It could be much clearer.
This is awesome!
I am trying to watch as much football in my free time, whilst doing PON stuff that I can, and being able to watch the Bundesliga would be a nice way to get in some games from overseas. I watched Southampton vs Ipswich and Crystal Palace vs Chelsea. It would be nice to educate myself about German football, as I am hoping to publish content about my thoughts on how Notts position themselves in games and how the tactics work, or what should be done differently.
The more football I can consume, the better my understanding of difficult play styles will be. Setanta Sports is truly missed, as I watched Dutch and Italian football back in the day, along with English non-league games.
Good news! And you're in luck @Chris, the BBC are also showing a Bundesliga game every week live on iplayer, starting on Friday. The first match is a bit meh but they're showing the Hamburg derby the week after...

When you haven't got two players in your side who scored 36 goals between them last season & another player who was the mainstay in central midfield, you are going to miss them no matter what side you are.
It's harsh to say it's horrendous that we didn't go up; we should have, and I think had we managed to cover the squad's injuries better, we might have stayed on course. Having three players listed is great, but there have been teams that have struggled in the past and still have made the Team of the Season. I am not entirely sure why some of these awards are so late to be announced.
It should have been done at least by the end of pre-season.

Who's your Man of the Match v Barrow? 50 members have voted
The team as a whole didn't play well today. There is no bones about it. A small improvement for a period in the the 2nd half failed to rescue a point for Notts.
Who was the Notts player that stood out for you? I have included the starting eleven & one substitute for your choice of M of the M.
Those players are
Roos, McDonald, Bedeau, Aljofree, Gordon, Palmer, Iorpenda, Bennetts, Luker, Jones, Dennis, Tsaroula

The one and only, Matt Palmer. Easy, and I didn't have to think long about it.
The poll has now closed. Thanks to all of the 50 members who voted in the poll.
We had a close poll this time with Nick Tsaroula & Matt Palmer vying for the top spot, however I'm very pleased to announce that Matt Palmer has been voted the Pride of Nottingham's Man of the Match for his performance against Barrow. Congratulations Matt.
Well done to Matt Palmer, that's two Man of the Matches so far.
I wish Barrow's was under different circumstances, because some might feel it's solely due to how poor the others were, but I do think he's been one of our better players in the three games we've played. I really hope he can continue that impact and help kick the others into upping their own game.

That’ll be a huge relief to the fans. I hope they can now move on and get back to playing football.
This is great news for the fans of Morecambe & for football generally. But I hope that lessons have been learned & Clubs around the land will be protected from this sort of thing happening again, by ensuring good governance has to be a prerequisite for owning a football club.
Jason Whittingham and everyone else who was part of the Bond Group should be black-listed from owning a football club now.
Really pleased for them but it should never have got to this point. I wonder if Morecambe have any players contracted? Not really had a pre-season either so it's going to be a real challenge to avoid back to back relegations.

I read that the story about the breakdown isn’t true. It sounds like the coach driver swung the turn too wide and ended up getting stuck.

I think it's an ardous task from here from MP. He's already looking a bit bereft at the questioning in terms of "why are we not performing in the first half for matches" or "where are we in signing a number 9 when we desperately need one".
I think Shrewsbury will be one of the biggest matches for him and moreso for us this season. If we can't step up to the plate with this team, then we'll really struggle when other teams are more solidly gelled in the upcoming weeks and months.
I thought Sonny Aljofree played fine; admittedly, I struggled to see the 2nd half, but in the first half he did well.
His issue was, in my eyes, down to Kellan Gordon being inconsistent and indecisive. The issue for me was Rod McDonald did well enough, but Jacob Bedeau has had a very poor start to the season. Watching him is quite frustrating because he will do something good, then make a rushed pass. He gets the ball in space, then lunges forward with no purpose, then passes the ball back.
For me, the issue is the major lack of movement and communication seems to be quite nonexistent.
When we get the ball, we try to pass it around in a way that makes it difficult to move forward because so many players have it drilled into their heads that they must stay behind the ball or in line with it.
Despite my comments about Bedeau, it's the midfield that is holding us back.
There's zero desire to get forward, no neat overlays, no support. Everything good that Barrow did as a team, we did just as poorly. Barrow is a sly, physical team, but they attacked the game well. They deserved the goal, and if pulling off a lucky goal near the end is enough to say we were denied a point based on our performance, I am sorry to say I don't think we deserved anything from the game.
For me to find fewer positives than negatives is really a sign of how bad it is. Notts didn't even play well enough for 5 minutes, let alone 30.
In the dying moments of the game, we sneak a goal, which was well taken, and I wished more than anything Matthew Dennis had more of a reason to celebrate his goal rather than being pushed into it. Our shape is also a major problem with harder-working teams, as they don't have to stretch the play to create chances; they can just overload us, and then the pressure becomes too much, leading to a very well-executed goal, even though at the game there were doubts over offside.
Notts are neither good in goal, defensively, nor from an attacking point of view.
I am inclined to believe that, upon reflection and hindsight, our slow recruitment and German tour were nothing but a hindrance. We have overloaded the midfield with so many players that need to get to the same speed, and this must be improved in training. As for games, I don't think Matty Platt made any difference. He gave the ball away more than Bedeau and looked generally clumsy, which is strange.
Paterson needs to get the players talking; he needs to drill in the desire of wanting the ball and movement.
The players have to work harder, but despite what I feel is fair and constructive criticism, I am not going to abuse them, no matter how far I have traveled and no matter how long I have supported the club. What disappoints me the most is some fans behaviour, their excuses to be abusive. Though these are probably the first to celebrate them when things are going well, if you truly loved Notts vent fairly and don't ruin the game for others with nonsense.
Are you seeking memorable experiences? Accept the bad in hopes of better days; otherwise, I fail to see how those types of supporters are any better than mercenary players who have zero connection to the teams they represent.
The game against Barrow sadly brought back memories of the Jamie Fullarton era. Notts were poor at the back and didn’t look like they could cause any problems for the opposition, let alone score. It was unsettling to watch Notts struggle to build any momentum. They kept losing the ball under pressure and couldn’t seem to keep hold of it.
Barrow were quick to win the ball back, often just as fast as Notts gave it away. It was a really bad showing all round.

Howard Wilkinson's preferred formation was 4-4-2. During Howards time as Manager of Notts in 1982/83, over 42 years ago, Goalkeepers most of the time cleared their lines to the centre field, & possession was for the most part, won there.
Football was a different game in those days & possession was judged specifically on not how long a team had the ball, but what they did with the ball when they had possession of it.
The 3-4-2-1 formation that Notts have adopted didn't gain traction Until the last decade when Chelsea under Conte used it successfully.
Playing out from the back 100% of the time does have an element of risk. We saw it just the other week with the Roos clanger. We saw it under Williams, & under Maynard, now we've seen it under Paterson.
When opposing teams employ an aggressive high press against Notts (most teams do at ML) our goalkeeper distribution to defenders & central midfielders & defenders passing across the back line is risky & it always will be.
Good morning it’s a new week and we are in for a scorcher this week, temperatures are set to rise to around 30 degrees again, guess I’d better get the fan back out from the loft.
We’ve got the last few jobs to do before our carpet is fitted tomorrow, the old carpet is now taken up and on the drive ready for the tip, we’ve done the bits of painting and touching up needed, we’ve just got to get as much furniture out as we can, the carpet fitters will have to move the rest as they lay the carpet.
I hope everyone is well, let us know what you’re up to this week.
