Honestly, the board would probably be advising the recruitment to focus on younger talent. We'd all love Macaulay Langstaff back, hopefully one day we will but it would be good to find someone who has pace, height, able to hold up the ball and can finish. Ideally 22-25, but strikers that are good are few and far between. Still, there's every chance we could develop or get the best out of the right talent.

There were times this season when the Notts team were subject to lots of physicality from the opposition.
Stuart Maynard complained about their opponents strong arm tactics on several occasions. He thought the Notts players were not getting enough protection from officials.
There were times when the Notts team were bullied by the opposition. It happened in the playoff semi final & in other games too.
Should the powers that be at Notts recruit a number of strong & physical players for Notts to become more of a bully on the pitch rather than the bullied?
I was listening to Paul on the Magpie Circle podcast with Mark Stallard and he says McCauley Langstaff has been transfer listed.
I wonder if Millwall are still paying instalments, could we buy him back? I guess his wages might be a stumbling block. However if Didzy doesnβt re-sign I guess that would free up some funds. If it were possible Iβd take him back without doubt.
Thoughts?

Seriously though, I doubt it'll happen as he'll be out of our price range financially. We'd have stood a greater chance of getting him in on loan, but transfer listing him makes this less likely.Β
maybe with david mcgoldrick not reversing, notts might try to land macaulay langstaff on loan? a good spell by returning to us, could make it easier for millwall to recoup some if their fee and hes not sitting on the bench doing nothing. i know it seems unlikely, but you can never say for sure what could happen in football.
Good morning itβs a bright sunny Bank Holiday Monday so far, I hope it stays that way for people who are making the most of the long weekend off work/school/college etc.Β
We tend to avoid going anywhere at bank holiday times, so itβll be a walk around the local streets and paths and time in the garden, weather permitting.

It hasn't been a good day for the supporters of Notts. We've lost our talisman who held this team together during the last third of the season.Β
Without Didzy Notts may have been in the bottom half of the table. We don't know all the circumstances why he didn't agree to an extension.
It may not have been just down to the money. Was Didzy unhappy about Maynard leaving or something else about the running of the club? We will never know the answer to that question.
Notts are a big club with brilliant support at this level, & they should be able to attract good experienced Head Coaches & players. I do hope we get some good news in the coming days to lift the gloom.
Good morning itβs a bright start to the day but the forecast is for it to be cooler.
As predicted Iβm aching after yesterdays park run so Iβll take it easy today, probably have a gentle walk later. Right Iβm off to do the word games now.
Have a great day everyone.
It's been a pleasant day here. Managed to get out into the garden to remove the dead spring flowers & prepare the ground for the summer ones.
It's been a good spring for the larger plants. Pride of place goes to our Hydrangea that is looking the best I've seen it for a while & it looks like we will get a good crop off our two apple trees this summer.
Of course it's essential to ensure that the plants get water during the dry spell. We've had a good amount of rain recently which has helped.
I was at Cobh Rambers vs Treaty United in the League Of Ireland First Division last night. I bumped into Brian O Callaghan who's a coach for Treaty United. Brian spent one season at ML in 2005/2006. It wasn't a great season. We just about avoided relegation to the Conference. We had a chat about Notts County and how Brian was glad we were on the up. He's a nice bloke. He had a chat with the supporters and you can see why Treaty fans like him.Β
I vaguely remember him, he was a full back with the turning circle of an oil tanker. Nicknamed Dangerous Brian by some. Don't tell him that to his face though! Glad he's still in the game.Β

It was against Alfreton. Jevani scored two goals & played superbly.
Of course it was against non league opposition, but he did show that evening what he was capable of.
Aston Villa make official complaint over referee decision as Champions League bid ends after controversial decision vs Man Utd
Aston Villa complain to PGMOL after 'big mistake' at Old Trafford
Β
I hate to say it, but it might be a blessing for Aston Villa. Leicester City winning the Premier League wasn't the best outcome in the long run for the club, wage increase demands and rushing natural development undid their efforts. Whilst Villa are unlucky, at least they can continue to keep building.
Teams are always in a rush for success, without thinking of the downsides which often outweigh the positives. Yes, the decision sucks but they are finally achieving and I personally would hope it continues without focusing away from the Premier League.
Interesting Podcast.Β
One of the realities of modern football that was mentioned is that the Football pyramid is no longer a pyramid but a Skyscraper with the PL right at the top.
As they all agreed the gap between the PL and even the Championship is getting wider year by year.
They mentioned that a Sky commentator said that the Championship playoff final was a match between clubs that whoever won would be favourite to come straight down next season.
That reality is sadly very true now & some people wouldn't even place a bet on it now.
The results of the final matches today confirmed that 5 of the top seven richest clubs in the PL qualified for the Champions League, & the sixth, Spurs, qualified for the CL by winning the Europa league during the previous week. So nothing has really changed this season.
A football regulator with strong powers to regulate football is what's needed.
The podcast talked about having a fair gameΒ
This is the website.
Fair Game
With success comes higher salaries, better players means gate prices increase and it's a natural progression. A skyscraper would be a good way to look at the Premier league, but not so much the Championship. Teams can flirt between the 3 lowest professional tiers without much changing. Establishing yourself as a Championship side, and modernising at that stage can he costly. Teams that buy new stadiums, don't always get the success they in vision and then there's your Blackpool's, Portsmouth's and even rarer Bournemouth's.

Lee Grant: Huddersfield Town appoint Ipswich Town coach as manager

I wonder what Sol Campbell makes of this? Lee Grant was a good keeper, it's nice to him being given a shot at management but I often feel moves like this are setup for failure. He needs plenty of time and support, hope he does well.

Walsall:
"Mondayβs result made it even more painful for Walsall, after being 12 points clear at the top of the table in mid-January and 15 clear of fourth place, then just three wins in their final 21 games meant they had to settle for a spot in the play-offs."Β

This doesn't look good..
If he goes to MK Dons that would be terrible news.Β
Β
Iβd be gutted if McGoldrick left, even more so if it was join MK. He's played under Paul Warne and he wanted him to stay at Derby before he signed for us, so I could totally see it happening...
A case of wait and see now I guess. If MK have offered him a deal thereβs no way weβll be able to match the wages offered. It's mad now, whatever league we are in thereβs always a club that can pay ridiculous amounts of money to players.Β
As good as he is realistically he wonβt play every game next season and thatβs probably reflected in the deal we will have offered him.Β He will be tough to replace though, just in terms of skill I donβt think many can get close to him at this level.
Enjoy everyone! Recruitment doc written by myself with contributions from Rich, Colin, Tom and Will.Β

If Plymouth return with Β£750k Jatta bid, some real elbow room for rebuilding. Though worried about Didzy's own future here
Noticed lots of transfer dealings going on except at Meadow Lane. Let's get this new Head Coach in place asap & get this recruitment phase rolling.
I'm going to leave this one here. Ollie Pearce. Yes he's 29 but he's a proven goal scorer. He's out of contract at York next year. I think he's worth taking a chance on, especially if Jatta leaves.Β
Leicester City are facing a substantial points deduction after being charged by the Premier League with a profit and sustainability (PSR) breach.Β
The Premier League side were initially charged in March 2024 with a spending breach after reporting losses of Β£90million for 2022-23, with top-flight sides only permitted to lose Β£105million over a rolling three-year period.
Meanwhile, the Man City 115 charges saga goes on & on without any sign of a conclusion.
Leicester told to accept 15-point deduction in 'amazing' twist - Stefan Borson
Β
I'm not sure point deductions works as a penalty, transfer embargoes and the likes tend to cause a fairer balance. Perhaps, they should sell players to cover the loss as this would significantly weaken them.
Manchester City being allowed to drag theirs on, is the only exception I agree with point docking.
Itβd be nice to see him figure more in the first team squad next season.
I'd love to see more youngsters pushing into the first team, Cassius Cisse does look like a great prospect but I can't help but feel Notts tends to focus more on one, at the cost of others and never push them enough to see it through.
Good to see him scoring and earning some spotlight, I hope he does break into our team. Just hope it doesn't work against us.

I will miss Gary on Match of the Day which Iβve watched for many years, in my opinion he is a very good presenter and comes across very well, I donβt think the programme will be the same without him, mind you I said that when Des Lynman left.
The new presenters will have big boots to fill so good luck to them and of course to Gary whatever he does in the future.
Β
I agree that Match of the Day won't be the same without him. He is a very good presenter with lots of experience & knowledge of the game.
He will be missed but we all said that when Kenneth Wolstenholme, David Coleman, Des Lynam & Jimmy Hill left. All were excellent in their own way.
Kenneth Wolstenholme presented & commentated too. Things are so different now.
Someone else will come in and make the programme their own. I personally don't watch M of the D as there is more analysis than highlights nowadays.Β If I want to see brief highlights I can get what I want online.
Match of the Day could be good, but the host needs to have played football for me. I don't think, you can connect with a pundit or general host. If he had the time, Ian Wright would be a good call, but someone younger might be a better decision. I don't watch it these days, but have seen comments on Twitter (x).
What was just seen TV, these days is a bit of a joke. I would rather see much highlights, then some of the discussion segments.
I wished ITV could get a shot at having their own highlight show, as in the past this made the BBC work for it.
I watch MotD every time itβs on usually in bed while Mrs. T is reading, I sometimes fall asleep near the end but catch up next day, it was very emotional on Sunday, they did a bit of a montage of Gary moments he was very emotional. I much prefer Gary Lineker to Mark Chapman on his MotD2 on Sunday thereβs far too much analysis on that programme.

We don't sing "We're the Pride of, we're the Pride of Nottingham..." There's so many generic chants which does nothing. Such, Nottingham, Nottingham, Nottingham.
Once that's been changed at the start of the game or before kick off, there's no real point unless the the opposition chats warrant the response.
We don't really counter opposition chants either, it happens far more often away from home but virtually rare at Meadow Lane.

Yesterday's biggest talking point is perhaps the red card and actions in the aftermath reaction by Alassana Jatta.
There's zero defence for the lung, even if he did win the ball. Two-footed challenges, with studs showing and from behind, is incredibly dangerous. A red card is the outcome for it, but it was all in the heat of the moment. I don't think Stuart Maynard should have mentioned the shirt pulling, as the way he framed it, it was as if it caused him to lunge for the ball.
Jatta just lost his head in the heat of the occasion.
What I noticed was the sudden confrontation of Wimbledon players speaking to the referee, and interfering with his decision. Jatta never made contact with the Wimbledon player, but he still went down as if he had been shot. Rich from Chud Photography mentioned to me that he thought the Dons player landed awkwardly. I wasn't sure, and I still don't think he had anything wrong with him.
It was clear Jatta should be given a red for the challenge.
However, the AFC Wimbledon players tried to cause a melee. They attempted to provoke several of our players, including Jatta. All with the intent that they knew cards could go flying from the official.
At the very least, the player who simulated the foul should have been given a yellow card for diving. Although I believe it should have been red, as he clearly deliberately tried to fool the referee into thinking contact had been made. Now, this won't change the outcome, but it is worth seeing people's talking points.
The referee made the right call to red card Jatta, how he left the field was a clear sign that he had lost his head and these things happen. What makes it worse is how some of the AFC Wimbledon slyly lash out at Jatta. Some of the comments clearly were made to provoke him, but others made comments to the likes of Jodi Jones and Jacob Bedaeu in hope of gaining a response.
Rod McDonald deserves a lot of credit for taking Jatta away from the situation; his judgement was right.
Jatta was fouled, leading to the incident which saw him see red, but several cards should have been issued to Wimbledon players. The referee was largely inconsistent with both teams, but the second half did see a lot of antics from Wimbledon to sway things in their favour.
Unfortunately, I come back to Stuart Maynard, who could have better protected his players. I am not a Maynard out, however, changes were needed going into the second half. I believe Jatta should have been one of the earlier subs, with Will Jarvis coming on earlier. I would have pushed David McGoldrick up top. There were signs that the importance of the occasion was frustrating Jatta, and his performance wasn't that great that we had to keep him on the field. This might seem harsh, but I honestly feel Maynard bottles his changes and waits far too long for any of them to really make an impact.
- Show previous comments 17 more
Problem is, the man in black who is the only opinion that matters, made the decision to send Jatta off & unfortunately that decision had a big bearing on Notts's chances in the 2nd leg.
A refereeing decision, ( and subsequent FA rulings) that sums up our season, as regards how we were ref'd. A sense of injustice lingers
The thing is, I don't deny the red card was the right call and he should have left the field without controversy. However, the referee deserves to be fined for failing to control the game and missing key decisions. Some of the AFC Wimbledon players should be investigated for their actions, but these won't happen.

Would you like Luke Williams back as Head Coach? 5 members have voted
There has been much talk on social media about the possibility of Luke Williams returning as Notts County Head Coach.
Would you be in favour of him returning, or would you prefer he didn't, or you simply don't know?
I might be in the minority but I don't think Notts should take Williams back. I will be eternally grateful to him for getting Notts back into the football league, but it's time for Notts to look elsewhere.
I'm sure that Luke is still hoping to make it big in the Championship, so I don't want Notts to be a temporary stopgap for any Manager or Head Coach.
Notts are a big club at this level & the owners shouldn't have a problem attracting lots of interest from experienced Managers & Head Coaches.
Depends who heβs up against! If in a couple of weeks heβs announced as the new head coach I wonβt be upset lets put it that way. He was 6 points off the play-offs in the Championship before he totally fumbled the West Brom managerial situationβ¦

I wouldn't disagree with you, but a lot of fans forgave Williams far more easily than they forgive Maynard.Β
You make good points in your last paragraph and this is why I'd like to see the experienced coaching staff around him. For the last 4 months, he hasn't really had much to bounce off.
For those who voted it was an overwhelming vote for Stuart to go.Β
Excluding don't knows...reflects roughly the 91% to go on Notts County Talk
Grealish will come again at another club. Wouldn't surprise me that Villa might take him back, especially as they look like they will be back in the CL.
With Grealish spending most of his time on the bench it demonstrates that City can afford to have a Β£100 million player on the sidelines, when at another PL club he would be a regular starter.
The farming of the most expensive players by the richest clubs has to be prevented, whether it be by capping the total transfer amount clubs can pay out every season or a restriction on the number of most expensive players a club can have in the squad at any one time.
Also, I think these rich clubs buy the best players from another club to make that club less competitive.
I'm expecting that some of the Forest players will be farmed off in the same fashion in the close season. Gibbs-White has already had interest from City, Murillo from Liverpool & there's talk of Elanga having interest from Newcastle.
The top six clubs can't have an outsider upsetting their champions league prospects. It just won't doΒ
I would like to see Notts recruit some more strong physical players that don't mind getting stuck in to their opponents.
I think that the Notts team does need to be more physically strong & be capable of holding their own against the physical sides in League 2.
I still want Notts to be very strong on the footballing side, but a team doesn't necessarily have to reduce their effectiveness as a footballing side to become more physical.
Lots of opponents pitches aren't as good as the Meadow Lane pitch, & a big factor on the system of those pitches is when winter sets in.
A squad that includes half a dozen strong physical players could be a godsend when Notts meet these physical sides, play on the poor pitches, & experience the poor weather conditions.
I don't think it's a case of being more physical, but less bullied by teams who pull shirts, clatter attacking players and just use the dark arts. If we give up to much freedom to be physical, it will impact the stone of football the club currently in visions.
Fans always say we need to be more physical or aggressive, but the moment players pile up suspensions, or get red carded it causes negative meltdowns.
Liam Noble and Might Doyle are two prime cases, both were silly with how frequent they got red carded but it's further evidence it's not what we need. Personally, I think Notts must be braver on the ball and more focused on misleading the opposition as to who might receive the pass. Our movement isn't all that great, yes we can score so excellent team based goals but they are few and far between.
If players made more effort with trying to make space and constantly move, it would open play a lot more. Whereas physical football tends to lead to unnecessary suspension. Whilst there could be room for some more physicality, my suggestion would solely be on movement, creativity and better linkup play.
a little more physical would not harm, wimbledon seem to get away with it and doncaster turned themselves around but i do agree more creativity, and better forward play would bring more success on the pitch. i think scott robertson could become a general in midfield, hes already showed some signs of not being scared to challenge or go for 50/50s.
