Your right Chris, whole milk is not whole milk at all. It has nearly all the cream taken out of it.

Skimmed milk is more like coloured water than milk.

I call it whole milk, but full fat doesn’t bother me. Some have too much time on their hands to find faults with words. Just let it pass because the message should be solely about it being healthy. Milk was never intended to be drunk by us, but we do, and the purpose it gave in the beginning has been replaced by other means. It was vital once upon a time; it no longer is, but it tastes great with cereals.

I think it's great that Norwich City is using their platform to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. It's a very important issue and it's wonderful to see the club showing support and care for their fans.

i think its very important to be there for people, even if they are not friends. if they seem like good people and deserve to be supported, i will try to make a difference. i have never had an issue with depression but i can understand how it causes hard times for people. i am more switched towards being happy and seeing the brighter things, the only time i used to feel low was during school. i had no friends, nobody would talk to me and i did feel lonely.

its why i will always try to be friendly towards people because i believe it makes a different.

suicide is horrible, it leaves loved ones in limbo and can cause further depression. :(

  5. Very Sad News that's come out from Hollywood, Actor James Earl Jones as Passed  Away. The Actor with perhaps the Most Iconic and recognizable voice died four days ago. Paid very little for his voice work in the first Star Wars Film and not acknowledged in the films credits, James' voice became forever associated with Sci Fi 's  most Famous and Greatest Villain of all time. I saw James in many different roles over the years, in the first Conan film the TV series Roots and a couple of guest spots in American sit coms Frasier and The Big Bang Theory to name just a few. I believe both James's parents were deaf and he didn't learn to speak until he was 5 years old (I stand to be corrected).

Sven had a very good send-off. I have also seen clips, and some very nice tributes were made to him.

I think it was only right that many of the England squad he managed turned up, but I don’t think the media should make a fuss about David Beckham attending. It was a funeral, and he was there to pay his respects.

  6. Greeting my fellow PON Members, I don't know if you remember me, it's the Old Wheelbarrow Repairman. I've not been on the site for awhile and if you're interested here's why. Are we all sitting comfortably? The I'll begin Once upon a time in a Galaxy Far Far Away, no hold on I can't use that. Let me see ah yes well. A few weeks ago I tired to get onto the site to air some of my views only to find I was unable to do so, after several attempts which ended in failure I decided to leave things and come back to the site the following day, and much to my surprise not only couldn't I get onto the PON Site I couldn't get onto the internet at all. After trying everything still nothing and as the family computer whiz Kid (my eldest son was on holiday) we had to await his return. When he finally got back from his fortnight of Fun and Games, he attempted to put things right only to finally come to the conclusion the old Laptop was Fu****. So a new one was ordered and it finally came yesterday and he set everything up but I still couldn't get back on PON anyway after lots of backward and forwarding and after some hard work by @Chris I've managed to make my return. Thanks Chris your a Star.

There was a second reason why I've not been on before, now what was it? Oh Yeah I DIED.

I wont bore you with the details ( because I don't remember much of it). I went to the QMC in Nottingham with a pain in my left shoulder and down and around my left shoulder blade. Once in hospital I suffered a New Atrial fibrillation,  and a subclinical hyperthyroidism    which means my Heart Stopped. A CPR Team brought me back after around 15 minutes. According to my youngest Son who had accompanied me to the hospital. I was transferred ( No fee was involved) from the QMC to the Cardiac Unit at Nottingham City hospital, after several days being hooked up to a machine numerous Blood Tests and blood pressure tests, along with 7 tablets to take on a Daily basis I was allowed home. I am now slowly on the mend and was assured by a Doctor that I am allowed to go back down the Lane to shout and encourage the Mighty Magpies onto Great Things and to also question the Referee's parentage.

So in typical Monty Python Fashion- I WAS DEAD. BUT I GOT BETTER.

      @Chris

To be honest my friend when I was gone it just felt like I was asleep I felt incredibly happy, euphoric, there was No pain just a feeling of utter contentment. I didn't see anyone one of my family who had passed telling me to go back, nor did I feel I was floating looking down on my physical body, or anything which people who have the experience of dieing and then coming back. There was a Bright white light but that was probably the large lights reflecting on  white ceiling of the cubicle I was in, because my Son told me I had my eyes open.

What I don't remember is what the CPR Team did for me, if they got the paddles out or if they thumped me on the Chest to get my heart going again, I knew nothing of the physical world around me. From the time I collapsed till the time I came back seemed to me only mere seconds, one moment I was enjoying, what seemed to me a Wonderful Dream and the next there was this annoying Sod poking his finger into the side of my neck calling my name. Then I was back in the land of the living and all my senses came back to me and it was just like I'd woken up from some Fantastic Dream.

Frightening? Honestly No not for me at that time, however it was so much different for my Son. I wont record his feelings here. Now I don't know how I feel about the whole thing it was if it happened to somebody else, the only worry is sometimes I get a  slight side effect from one of the Drugs I'm taking and I think it's happening again, then I calm down and realize there are no other symptoms and my panic goes away.

  7. We all have an idea of our favourite all time great Notts player that we have seen or heard of.

But what would be your ultimate Notts team if you could choose your best players either from the players you saw, or who you heard of and read about?

I'm sure we will have our favourites. There are so many to choose from, and we will all have our own ideas of which Notts  players to put in that team.

So I will allow eleven players and one substitute.

You can have any formation you like so long as the side is balanced. Good luck.

To be fair to them Boreham Wood massively underachieved last season, I don’t think anyone would’ve predicted they’d get relegated especially after they were just minutes away from getting to a play-off final the season before 😉

I wonder if Luke Garrard thought he would’ve got another job in the NL over the summer. He’s been at Boreham Wood for so long I kind of think a change wouldn’t have been a bad thing. Maybe he’s looked back on the relegation and wants to make up for it by getting them promoted again. It’ll be interesting to see how it turns out for him second time around.

I think realistically, they have always been a mid-table National League team.

Their success seemed a bit of an overachievement, but their relegation was them underperforming. I don't think they strengthened themselves all that well compared to other teams and ended up in very poor form. I wonder if their fans have any involvement with this? If they wanted him back, then it would make a bit more sense, but I can't imagine it was easy discussions at first.

I am happy, well more than happy. Delighted and over the moon doesn’t really do it. Jodi Jones’s extension gives us peace of mind. I would rather have players under contract than allowing them to wind down. Also, the fact he feels he has something to repay us for, despite all he has done, shows his quality off the pitch.

    3. B&Wstripes

      B&Wstripes

He could see out his contract, then review all the offers that come in. If a Championship team did, offering him a better payday, how do we compete with that? We have to get our better players extending their contracts where we can. I don’t care if we sell him at the end of this season, provided we have seen his magic and he’s helped us on the pitch. Sure, I would be sad to see him go, but it beats losing talent on a free.

    4. CliftonMagpie

      CliftonMagpie

You can’t underestimate the importance of this news, and you can’t downplay it either. He’s ours until a bid comes in, and the contract gives us more time. If he leaves during that time, it will be our decision. As for the positivity, just read or listen to what Jodi has said about his choice. If you ever needed proof that someone is committed to Notts, he’s the one. He wants to improve, but with us. We should be delighted. I wanted to jump around like a madman, but that’s not a good idea, so I just stuck to doing fist bumps! I understand some caution, but Macca is different. Jodi Jones reached the Championship with Coventry City, and without his injuries, I doubt they’d have let him go. Macca spent a long time in the National League, so you can’t blame him for wanting to test himself. Jodi had a short stint in the National League, and he knows League Two and League One well. He knows he’s happy here, it’s great news!

For all those teams that were punished with fines & points deductions for just one charge, justice needs to be seen to be done.

A clear message that no team is above the rules & regulations needs to be given, if Man City is found guilty of some or all of the charges.

@allardyces tash, I think adding the previous round's table would clutter it up too much, but it would be cool to show the players' positions from the previous week so we can see who's moving up and down. I'll see if I can find a way to do it over the next few weeks, no promises though.

I agree @Chris Alex Bass talked about Stuart having faith in him.

Having the faith and confidence from any gaffer makes all the difference in the mentality of a player.

I think Aidan Stone still has something to offer Notts if given the chance.

Bear in mind there would be a brand new defensive unit in front of him now, if he had the chance to deputise for Bass.

One more thing. Managers rarely substitute Keepers for tactical reasons.

Is it time that Clubs like Notts started to do that to give substitute keepers game time?

    3. Countyman

      Countyman

He’s a top keeper for sure. I don’t believe he’s of League Two standard, so if we do gain promotion whilst he’s at the club, I don’t think it would be a position we would need to replace. It’s good to have so much faith in the keeper, as I don’t worry when teams have chances against him. It has always been a nervous aspect in recent seasons to worry about conceding.

Cricket is a weird sport, where cheaters don't seem to be held accountable like other sports do. I thought it was considered 'the gentleman's game', with a lot of sportsmanship? It seems lost these days.

I agree, Players should be checking their own equipment to ensure compliance.

There is a gauge that the bat has to pass through to ensure it's not over permitted width.

Just a very small increase in thickness, just a millimetre or two, can make all the difference to a professional.

To be honest, the match should have been declared at least a draw with a further 8 points awarded to Notts, or even a win for Notts, with 16 points awarded or the match replayed.

it should have seen them penalised or to forfeit the game, if proven he knowingly cheated.

  17. Stuart Maynard will certainly have a selection problem when all his players are fit & ready to be selected.

Some of the players have performed well & pick themselves. Players such as Bass, Macari, Platt, Bedeau, Tsaroulla, Jones & Crowley can be selected on merit.

But who joins them in the first 11?

Defensive Midfield & upfront could prove a selection headache for Stuart. For example, Palmer, Robertson, Edwards, Hinchy, Grant, Austin & Abbott will be fighting over the defensive midfield places.

Grant, Austin & Edwards have excelled in attacking midfield roles too.

Scott, McGoldrick, Jatta, & Brown will be fighting for a place upfront too

So, who gets your nod to start each game for Notts, out of all the players available. Maybe someone I haven't mentioned?

Who would be your preferred 11?

I don’t see the partnership of Scott Robertson and Matt Palmer being something we’ll see as concrete. I did think it would be at the start of the season, but I think George Abbott looks a better option for winning the ball back and tackling players. Robertson is good going forward but isn’t always careful when passing the ball. He can lose it at times too, so I think Abbott will come into the team more.

I do like Curtis Edwards. I think he’s very good in the advanced midfield role, but he’s okay further back. I do think he has done exceptionally better near the top end of our team.

As for the team, I think right now it could change and adapt. I’ll wait until we are further into the season.

I agree about Edwards & Abbott. I think they could forge a good defensive midfield partnership especially away from home & against the stronger sides.

Their work rate, tenacity & skill on the ball, would prove invaluable in those matches.

once matt palmer is fit, i have no doubt he will be included more, him and abbott, crowley and edwards seem to be good options. it leaves scott and mcgoldrick to rotate with attacking spaces or advanced midfield. i think like @Robbie, we will start to see a difference between home and away selections. it would be hard to ignore grant for example, but it is a sign of the good options we have.

defence and goal writes itself, when jatta is available he should start.

  18. Worried as on the final whistle, he limped down to the players tunnel immediately.

Last season, Luke allowed him to stay on the pitch when he was clearly injured. Has Stuart made the same error of judgment?

It wouldn’t be ideal, but with Brown, we could afford Scott time to come back if he has taken a knock. I hope it’s nothing serious and just a dead leg or something like that.

He’s a good player. Sometimes you need a long run in a team after an injury to refind your form.

It's concerning to hear about Cedwyn Scott's limping, and I hope it's nothing serious. As some have pointed out, he's been played out of position, which might be impacting his performance. It's also important to remember that he's still recovering from a previous injury. Let's hope for his quick recovery and a successful return to the pitch, possibly in his preferred role as a striker.

i think they need to stick with him if they want to get value out of his fee. he wont help them not playing and the amount of game time is poor. they need to figure out how to get him involved and how he can increase his work rate to make it more likely to succeed. i want macaulay langstaff to work out at millwall. he deserves the break in his career.

It’s a sign of wasted resources. They wanted him, but they’re not willing to put in the effort to make it a success. If he had started strong and scored goals every week, they’d quickly change their minds.

I'm very surprised Oxford didn't go for Macca because with Ruben they have a player that worked with Macca so well. Also Oxford's playing style would have suited Macca much more.

considering southends issues, this is great news. i liked noor husin but he needed to improve much quicker than he did for us. defensively was my main concern.

I didn’t think he was anything special, but my memory of him is unclear. He might have done better if we’d had a more determined squad at the time.
