Mansfield's situation is surely a lesson for Notts if they manage to win promotion.
Notts will need to ensure that they have the players that can step up another level & if not, be prepared to go into the transfer market, to ensure they do not struggle as Mansfield have done.
-
I think it’s a bad sign when the manager, or assistant manager in this case, starts to criticise the players publicly, it doesn’t actual sound if there’s much togetherness when that happens, I don’t mind them being honest and saying it was an awful performance but I’d rather hear them say “we are in this together, we all take responsibility and together we’ll work hard to put it right”, or words to that effect.
If the manager throws the players under the bus they aren’t going to want to play for him, they are in danger of losing the dressing room in my opinion.
-
how am i only just learning about this, the comments are funny but at least hes speaking some sense. i do think hes speaking more out of frustration which is making him a little too honest. its not the response you want trying to secure a league one place. mansfield fans will like it, but he is blaming the players and taking no accountability for his or nigel cloughs actions.

the players need to take the criticism right now on the chin, just try harder to be tighter at the back and make better judgements when it comes to passing. i felt impressed with the workrate and effort in the first half to win the ball back. it is a little annoying to see us pass back, but sometimes it is understandable. i think notts fell into the habit of doing this to much against chesterfield and where as sam slocombe is being blamed. it was hardly his fault, yes he had a moment which he made up for with a brilliant save with his legs but the decision to pass the ball back to him, full well knowing he keeps being pressed and is not the most confident at passing is just a silly mistake.
i think going into the second half, all the positives of the first half performances just drifted. we had spells, but it took us longer to suss out chesterfield and it favoured them. notts looked good attacking, but lacked options in the box and was very wasteful on goal.
-
Just to follow on from a few good points, I do think we need to take full advantage of the 5 subs more often at times, especially if we want to keep our pressing and intensity levels high. The fact you can make more subs now actually benefits teams that want to press because it gives you a chance to bring more fresh legs on. Asking your midfielders and wide players to press effectively for 90 minutes is not possible, they are going to fade as the game wears on.
And I think for Jatta it hasn’t helped that we’ve basically played him constantly for 90 minutes since about November. And unfortunately, Traore, who could replace him is injured. Yes he probably should've scored a few more goals but he's still scored the bulk of our goals this season (along with McGoldrick) I don’t know whether it’s down to style of play or individuals but the spread of goals across the team has been poor this season.

roll on when football does become regulated with the finances and teams have to start taking into account what is spent more carefully, i would hope it leads fans to be more appreciative of the club when it does well and show better support when times are tougher.
-
This isn't good news.
"The UK government is considering paring back the powers of its planned football regulator as part of a wider clamp-down on bureaucracy".
"Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office is reviewing the proposals to ensure they don’t stifle the growth of the Premier League and disincentivize overseas investment in Britain’s biggest football clubs, according to people familiar with the matter. The regulator is unlikely to be scrapped but could be watered down through further amendments to legislation that is currently being finalized, they said".
If the powers of the Regulator are cut it would be a big blow to football in this Country as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't call it one of the greatest. They should have called the camp one of the most notorious prisoner of war camps.
Russian & Polish prisoners of war were treated terribly by the Germans during the war.Thousands upon thousands were used for forced Labour, & thousands were sent to concentration camps. This camp was more like a death camp than a prisoner of war camp.
May all who died there rest in peace.
-
its nice to know russia can do some good, its a shame these days they are more like germany was back then and only care about those in power. this is a very sad anniversary though.

i have not seen anything about giving feedback about this at any point, did any other members?
i dont get why it has to be the top of the kop that gets the safe standing, it would be better lower but the club does what it wants. i am not against those who stands but i am curious if this effects me. no email, just the status so time will tell.
-
This is news to me, but I moved from the KOP to the Pavis Stand a few seasons ago. While I do miss it, I don’t think the KOP has been the same or as good as it could be. I hope the introduction of safe standing brings a lot more energy to the atmosphere.
-
I wonder if safe standing proved popular they would do the same in the family stand?

An interesting read
Bradford (PA) | The Beautiful History
THEBEAUTIFULHISTORY.WORDPRESS.COM
Bradford Association Football Club was formed in 1907 and used the name of its ground, Park Avenue, to distinguish itself from the plethora of other sporting clubs in the area: Bradford City AFC, Bradford... -
-
bradford park avenue signed a couple of notts players after they had left us if i remember right, lewis knight being one. we signed him from them and never really played him enough to get the most out of his ability. his pace was lightening quick, such a shame because i thought he looked promising. i dont know a lot about bradford park avenue but it would be nice to see a club of their history higher in the leagues.

By the end of March we will probably know if Notts can get an automatic promotion spot.
In March, Notts have matches against:-
Fleetwood away.
Barrow at home.
Wimbledon away.
Grimsby Away.
Chesterfield at home.
Crewe at home.
Newport away.
Positive results or even wins against three of those sides, Wimbledon, Grimsby, & Crewe who are competing with Notts, plus picking up points elsewhere could prove to be a big month for Notts.
Are you confident Notts can come through those seven matches looking good?
- Show previous comments 9 more
-
After today's match against Wimbledon we don't have automatic promotion in our hands now.
Notts need to make sure that they can stay in the playoff places.
Notts have to get those injured players back as a matter of urgency. Didzy & Jodi are so big for us. They can make all the difference for Notts.
-
i am starting to think every bad spell notts has it sucks the hope of finishing in the automatics, and then we go on a good run and it renews that hope. i dont think we are consistent enough, i believe notts has the depth and quality but it comes down to wanting to win. pushing for goals and defending well, not losing control of matches and generally struggling to convert chances that are created.
right now i think playoffs is more likely, but i am worried that if we persist with this form we may just end up slipping out of them too.
-
It hasn't been a good month so far that's for sure. The start of the month was the time when you want to go on a run and have a 6/7/8 unbeaten streak that would lift you comfortably into the automatic spots and take the pressure off in those last few matches.
I do think we need to now beat both Crewe and Newport to keep our automatic hopes alive, other teams around us surely aren't going to keep dropping points too!

Kellan Gordon got my vote. I thought he was excellent in the first half, with his crosses being very accurate and just needing someone in the right position to finish them. In the second half, I felt the quality of crossing wasn’t great from any player, but Gordon still gave a solid performance overall.

The poll has now closed
Thanks to all who voted today. It made for a competitive race between Abbott & Didzy for the top spot.
I am pleased to announce that the Pride of Nottingham's Man of the Match is George Abbott, who again demonstrated, even in a Notts defeat, that he is going to be a future star.

well done george abbott, pleased to see he earned the votes from us fans.

Nice to see the other Magpies win a trophy for the first time in 70 years.
-
It's great to see another side win a major trophy rather than Liverpool & Man City for a change.
Eddie Howe has worked incredibly hard to build a decent Newcastle side.
Of course he is backed by very wealthy owners & lots of cash to build a competitive side, but I am pleased for the Newcastle fans who have been starved of success for so long.
I believed that Eddie Howe deserved the England manager's job & maybe one day he may get that job if he continues to get success at Newcastle.
I'm sure the Newcastle fans will be partying well into the night & for many days to come.

So many questions need answering
- Why haven't we replaced our assistant head coach?
- Why haven't we replaced our first team coach
- What is Didzy's actual injury and why was he a week away just before Fleetwood and now it's another week?
- What is Sam Austin's actual injury and why is he out so long?
- Why was Lewis Macari scheduled to be out till the end of March and came back 4 weeks earlier? Does this say something about the timeframes our medical staff are projecting?
- Why have our performances not been convincing this season? Slow passing, slow intensity, inconsistent press, running with the ball into space, the will to run through brick walls for the club to win.
- Why have we not re-invested the money we have made off of transfers? -
Nice summing up of the current situation @Chris.
As far as the new signings are concerned, I agree that Whittaker & Traore have potential & need time to eventually make an impact.
However, I don't think that Johnson & Jarvis have been particularly good signings for us.
I think that the four signings needed to be players that could have made an instant impact for Notts because with the injuries it was essential for Notts to strengthen the squad for the run in.
But that hasn't happened. Bear in mind, Notts released Brown & Martin but their replacements to date, (Traore & Jarvis) haven't been any better when Notts needed an improvement.
-
to be fair, we looked in a good place when the january transfer window wrapped up. i think its always a setback when you lose staff and coaches who work so closely with the setup and whilst i think the saunders can easily be replaced i dont think the club should have rushed to appoint joao alves but its not his fault. he will be the easy target for why stuart maynard might not have the support or experience by his hand and in a way, i think the club has made a decision which is more negative to a manager learning efl football in only what would be his second season (which is not even a full second term).
clubs dont like to admit when they are wrong, but they should look at giving maynard the best possible assistant. i am sure alves will make the grade one day, but we need someone who can advise maynard when he needs it like in times like this.
there was rumours yesterday that neil warnock might be approached in some form of support role, but i think thats people who put 2+2 together and come up with 5.
i think we need to stick together and help secure a few back to back wins, as that would be the biggest boost to morale.

Morning all, the sunshine has gone it’s a cloudy start and forecast to be colder. I’ve got to go to the dental lab this morning, I have a partial top denture which broke in two last night. I’m hoping they can fix it as I wont get a dentist appointment before our holiday next week.
I haven’t got much else on other than that, we’ll probably have a walk this afternoon but not too far as my thighs are still sore from running on Saturday.
Have a great day.

Good morning and happy Sunday, it’s going to be a busy day for us, we’ve got to get our cases packed ready to go on our cruise, tomorrow we travel down to Sounthampton to stay in a hotel for the night before our embarkation on Tuesday morning.
We got posh clothes to pack including my Tuxedo and Mrs. T’s long evening dresses, there are two formal nights on this cruise so we’ll need our posh clothes for them. Then there’s all our short, t shirts etc., for when we reach the warm weather in the Canaries. Thankfully on cruises you can take as much luggage as you want so no weight problems like on planes.
Must dash lots to do. TTFN.
-
Dissapointing result on Saturday, but we move on & Notts have to pull out all the stops to win their next home game against Crewe on next Saturday.

Watched the Film, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1956) this afternoon. It is still one of the best creepy films ever made.
They should have made a sequel straight afterwards. The 1978 film of the same name had some sequel elements in it but it wasn't a full sequel.

It's a real shame that the airport is closing. I used to go to a school in Tollerton from the early 60s, & the Head Mistress would tell us stories of Americans who were stationed at the RAF base there, who would stop & give sweets to the kids in the school playground if the teachers weren't around when they were passing the school.

There's a lot of land which could be repurposed, which isn't being used, but we seem to find an area and knock down what could be used in spite of what isn't. I am not sure I really see the point of it.
Surely, it would make more sense to redevelop areas where there is already a shortage of houses and plenty of derelict land.

If Notts can keep Didzy fit we have a chance for the Automatics. Jatta plays better with him in the side & Didzy seems to get a better performance out of the match squad, because He leads by example & his fellow players are inspired by him too.

Notts have equaled the points total from last season which was 61 points with still 10 games to go, so it appears Notts will better that total, meaning that progress would have been made.

Good news for Boston United fans.

Boston United's move to become a full-time professional side next...-
This will be welcome news for all Boston fans that would like to see their team eventually progress to EFL status.
The club currently are struggling second from bottom of the national league 5 points from safety after getting promoted last season.
Boston are on a good financial footing & would like to take the next step according to their Deputy Chairman.
Whether they stay in the national league or not, the plan will go ahead at the start of next season.
Personally I think it would be good to see Boston in the football league. This change would allow them to attract good players who could improve the team.

We are so lucky to have George Abbott with us this season, I think he will be a star of the future.
-
The first half might not have been great, but I thought we put in a very assured performance in the second half. I was also pleased to see us continue to be proactive and dictate the game after scoring, rather than sitting back and handing the initiative to the opposition. McGoldrick's goal was beautiful, although I initially thought he should have played Jatta in!
A good away win against a team that could have overtaken us if we'd lost - we're now five points clear of them. Big points, as the Germans would say. Now let's get back in the top three this weekend.

When Nick Tsaroulla plays like he did yesterday, it's clear what Crawley Town are missing and what Notts has gained. He was in class, putting in a very good performance. Matty Platt and David McGoldrick also did well. George Abbott deserves a mention, but Tsaroulla stands out for his minutes on the pitch and overall display.
-
David McGoldrick is my Man of the Match. He set Notts up to win and his introduction gave the squad a big lift. There were some good individual performances, but I feel McGoldrick tops them all.
