Ok, so the crowd today wasn't our largest, not by long chalk, given the opposition who are normally quite well followed when they visit the lane, I had expected over 6000. Not much I grant you, but certainly a few more than there were.
Without looking how many would you expect at an FA CUP tie involving a Championship side at home to a Premier League side? 10,000..... 15,000..... 20,000 even?
Ok so it is January, and even given the slight economic upturn, times are still difficult, Christmas has just gone, there are plenty of credit card bills due paying.... perhaps a low crowd could be somewhat understandable.
Given that our results have stuttered a little, been hit and miss, the football hasn't been knockout, yes I can fully understand on a cold afternoon perhaps with some nagging from other halves and bills due, why there have been people do other things. Disappointing though it is....
Consider then that Notts County v Peterborough, drew more of a crowd than Blackburn Rovers v Swansea City.
Now that shocked me, is it that we expect too many to attend?

Goals from Gary Cahill and Ramires gave a much-changed Blues side a 2-0 lead at Stamford Bridge before ex-Sunderland striker Jon Stead pulled one back just before half time.
Former Chelsea player Filipe Morais, who played in Jose Mourinho’s first game in charge of Chelsea, a pre-season clash with Oxford United, in 2004, then drew the Bantams level with 15 minutes remaining.
Mourinho responded by bringing Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard and Willian on but it was Bradford who went ahead through Andy Halliday’s brilliant solo goal.
Phil Parkinson’s side survived a barrage of late pressure from the hosts and then hit the Blues with a sucker punch as Mark Yeates struck in injury time to seal a sensational victory.
And there was a shock exit for title rivals Manchester City too as they were beaten 2-0 by Middlesbrough at the Etihad Stadium
Chelsea youngster Patrick Bamford, on loan at the Riverside, was the hero for Aitor Karanka’s men as he managed to bundle home following a mix up from Willy Caballero, in for Joe Hart, and Fernando.
Despite having the firepower of Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Frank Lampard on the pitch they could not find the goal they needed.
And to add to Manuel Pellegrini’s misery, **** wrapped up the triumph, finishing off a move involving Albert Adomah and Bamford
There was a thriller at St Mary’s as Crystal Palace beat Southampton 3-2 to progress to the next round.
Marouane Chamakh hit a brace for the Eagles, with on loan Yaya Sanogo grabbing a third for Alan Pardew’s, meaning Graziano Pelle’s strike and a Scott Dann own goal were in vain for the hosts.
Leicester City came from behind to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at White Hart Lane.
Andros Townsend had handed Spurs the lead with a first half penalty but a Leonardo Ulloa and Jeffrey Schlupp scored in the final eight minutes of the match to ****** victory for Nigel Pearson’s Foxes.
Victor Anichebe starred as West Brom edged a closely fought Midlands derby to progress with a 2-1 victory over Birmingham City at St Andrews.
Anichebe linked up impressively with England striker Saido Berahino for both of his first-half strikes, although Jonathan Grounds halved the deficit for the hosts on half time.
Hal Robson-Kanu scored a late winner as Reading came from a goal down to beat Cardiff City 2-1 in an all-Championship encounter at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Kenwyne Jones’ header had given Russell Slade’s side an early lead before Oliver Norwood’s free kick drew the visitors level just after the hour mark.
Robson-Kanu then found the top right corner with a superb solo goal in the 88th minute to send Reading through to the fifth round.
Darren Bent grabbed his first Derby County goal as Steve McClaren’s Championship high-flyers booked their place in the next round with a 2-0 win over League One side Chesterfield.
Bent, on loan from Aston Villa, headed home from close range half way through the first half and starlet Will Hughes made sure of the win with a late left-footed strike.
Elsewhere, Sheffield United youngster Diego De Girolamo earned the Blades a replay against League One rivals Preston North End to a 1-1 draw, while Fulham held Sunderland, who had Jack Rodwell sent off, to a 0-0 stalemate.
Paul Gallagher had opened the scoring with a brilliant 30-yard free-kick but, with 22 minutes remaining, the Italian youth international fired home the equaliser.
Well some great upsets in there, all the top teams out in one round.....
You decide.... just don't upset him

I know that Blackpool can hardly buy a win at the moment, but this really was a case of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. 2-0 up at half time and having to just shut up shop. It must have been something in the tea, or perhaps they were abducted by aliens and replaced. Whatever it was you have to give some credit to the management at Watford for an inspiring team talk, whilst the same cannot be said in the other changing room.
Second half saw Watford score 7 (seven, where is Len Goodman when you need him) all without reply. Now that is a mega collapse.

One Club man... Matthew Le Tissier, here described as an Idol, the last of his kind, Mercurial......
http://babb.telegraph.co.uk/2015/01/matt-le-tissier-the-last-footballer-of-his-kind/
Another player you couldn't help but admire, oh he had his chances, bigger clubs came calling, is it any wonder he is an absolute Icon and hero to the supporters of Southampton FC?
I only saw him once, and Xavi was right, he could run but half job with the ball no more than about a foot from his boot through as many as he wanted, people rave about that Maradona goal against England, but Le Tiss did this week in week out... He really was Super talented IMO
Your thoughts? Was he right to stay at Southampton for 16 years? In terms of English players, just how good was he? God? Idol?

Young Jack has been fined by Paul Lambert..... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/aston-villa/11366635/Aston-Villa-winger-Jack-Grealish-fined-by-Paul-Lambert-after-venting-his-frustration-on-Twitter.html
I can see this escalating, Lambert isn't known for giving second chances, he is almost Despotic

In his latest message to the fans, Shaun says we have had plenty to cheer about at Notts County at the moment. He says the players that have come in have added a spark to the squad.
Regarding this weekend he thinks that although Peterborough are on a bad run of form at the moment it will be a hard task and the position they are in belies the talent they have in the squad.
He also says that they are still looking for players to strengthen the squad and with the fantastic backing they have had from the board he is confident that if he identifies someone he needs he will be allowed to bring them in.
All sounds good, what do you think.

In one of the more outlandish rumours of the month during the January transfer window, Shaun Wright Phillips has been linked with a move to Notts County.
Nobody has seen much of SWP in the capital these days. In fact it’s a disappearance Lord Lucan would be proud of.
His QPR manager Harry Redknapp says the winger is happy sit on a “fantastic contract†and won’t move because nobody can get near his reported £65,000-a-week mega wages.
According to Redknapp, SWP has turned down offers to go to Championship clubs Charlton, Bolton and Blackburn over recent months.
But, we hear you say, Shaun Derry knows Redknapp – having played for him at QPR and Nottingham is a lovely city.
SWP knows it well having started his career at Nottingham Forest before going on to become an England international following moves to Chelsea and Manchester City.
One fan, Paulie Richardson, tweeted Wright-Phillps, saying: Hi Shaun hope you’re well! Any truth in the rumour you’re off to Notts County on loan??
So could a deal be struck which could see him join the Mapgies on loan?
Our answer? Unlikely.
The Nottingham Post seem desperate to clutch straws after suggesting Liam Noble would be the best signing Notts could expect in the 'quiet' January trasfer window. Basically expect the opposite when they suggest something, it's quite pathetic really. So in this case, I think it's safe to say Bradley Wright-Phillips is on his way in!!!
also why would Shaun reject a chance of playing with his brother, yet opt to sign for Shaun and us? Possibly the best question, if the Post think it's unlikely why are they reporting it?
Thoughts?

I made the mistake of telling my grandson George about speed limits.
This morning taking him to school all I got was "Grandad you are doing 32 mph and it's a 30 mph zone". ![]()
What things did you wish you hadn't told kids about.

Well its January we sit 12th in league 1 31 points however only 5 points from the play off i think the play offs are not to much to ask as it stands. We have had some bad results but i think we are starting to show some form not always great. But carol is making a difference and think if we secure play offs he is the key.

Anyone have a flutter every now and then? I like to put on small bets on Match Days, makes it seem a bit better if you have stakes in the game. Frustrating and satisfying, that sums football up!
Here are mine for the day:
First one returns 69.47 and second one 110.60.
Had to go against us today as I can't see us winning, and I won't be as disappointed (In theory)
Anyone else?

As the title says, it seems Eric was either a love him or loathe him (jealous more like) footballer. Such talent, but occasionally flawed, well aren't they all... Best, Gasgoine, add Cantona! The following is an article into the incident at Selhurst Park, Yes that one! For those who don't know what we are on about, Eric did a flying Kung Fu kick over the railings at an abusive spectator and all hell broke loose.

I remember the transfer out of Leeds to, and I had heard rumours out of Yorkshire, that was ALLEGEDLY down to some dalliance with Lesley Ash, wife of fellow strike partner Lee Chapman. It all happened very quickly and you have to say, doing business with Manchester United wasn't really the done thing. So something must have happened......
Now he is an actor, starring in French films of a certain type, and talks against Islamophobia http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2923849/How-Manchester-United-legend-Eric-Cantona-turned-football-preach-Islamophobia-star-soft-porn-films.html
But for me, a Great footballer very talented, charismatic, an enigma, but what the hell was he on about with Seagulls and trawlers??
Your thoughts on.... The man, the footballer, the incident, trawlers?

I don't think Peterborough are a side which many sides should fear, especially compared to previous season.
They do play some good football, however they are largely inconsistent and they haven't filled in the gaps left behind by losing key players. They invested quite heavily on raw, upcoming talent and it shows when watching them play. Their defence also looks pretty poor in my opinion.
This doesn't mean I am writing them off on Saturday, I'm not but don't impress me like they have done.
I know full well they have the quality to take the game to teams, however I see this as being another prime game where Notts can show just how much they have progressed themselves. I think provided we don't allow them to dictate the tempo or to come at us as directly as Bristol City, Swindon Town or MK Dons did. I think we will be able to get the ball into places whereby they struggle and I see us being able to create those chances.
It's just about both sides taking the chances presented. Score prediction? I'm going to say 1-0 Notts.
What about you? Thoughts?

and to we think we've fallen away this season.....
this weekend sees free scoring and free falling posh roll into town. the team that bought big from non-league and then sold on for huge profits, (cms, macclean, boyd, gayle etc) once again have the former two back in their ranks.
hopefully their patchy form will continue past this weekend and they leave meadow lane empty handed for what would be the first time in a while. ferguson then surely to be under threat from the admirable but impatient mcanthony.
links? quite a few spring to mind, but gary martindale, sean farell and andy legg are my starters...

Yes, you read that right, LVG has inspired United to amass the same amount of premier league points as predecessor David Moyes, so why hasn't he been slated to the same level questions this article.....

Well, it will all begin at 08:30 on Thursday morning, now for those of you who hate going to the dentist, look away now.
The appointment is set to last 8 hours (Eight), yes you read that right.... I mean this has to be the longest dental appointment in living memory, right?
Might have to enquire at the Guinness pump in the local, I reckon I could be in with a shot at the record.
