Notts County Manager Luke Williams Praises Team’s Toughness in First Win of the Season

PON_News

Notts County manager Luke Williams expressed his satisfaction with his team's performance after their first win of the new season, a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory.

In his post match interview, he said, "We didn't want to go behind once. We definitely didn't want to go behind twice.

"But I said yesterday that the players are not made of sugar and that was the case. And that's the thing that pleased me the most because I didn't like watching the game. It was ugly."

He also mentioned that there were too many first and second balls to compete for, which made it difficult to control the game as much as he wanted.

However, he was happy to see that his players were tough and stood up to the challenge. "When you do get into a game like that it's nice to know that the players are tough and that they'll stand up to that," he said.

The manager also talked about how he told his team to wake up in the moments where the goalkeeper has the ball in his hands and just kicks it somewhere.
He said, "We can just let the ball come out of play, compete for the first ball which is OK. But then we lose the second ball and then the line is in the wrong place, is not all coordinated because it becomes chaotic, and we get caught out. It's ridiculous to get caught out when a goalie has the ball in his hands and just kicks it somewhere."

He praised his team for their toughness and fight for the shirt. "We're here to be tough and play with a toughness for the shirt and I think they showed that today brilliantly," he said.

Williams also spoke about individual players, mentioning how Connor Rawlinson suffered a little bit in the middle, but Connell was excellent. He also praised Richard Brindley for playing in the middle and being absolutely fantastic.

In addition, he mentioned how Connell had played in the middle before and had been superb. "I remember Stan watching him play in the middle seven games. We won on the bounce with him in the middle, and he was superb," he said.

The manager also talked about how his team has a habit of trying to make drama for the spectators and how they need to get out of that habit. "We seem to have this habit of trying to make drama for the spectators. So we need to get out of that a little bit," he said.

He also mentioned how he could feel the ground shaking at some point during the game due to the incredible support from their fans. "I could feel at some point I could feel the ground shaking it was absolutely super," he said.

It seems like Notts County manager, Luke Williams, was happy with his team's performance and their ability to show toughness and fight for their shirt. He did mention that they need to get out of their habit of trying to make drama for the spectators, but overall he was pleased with their performance.

the second half notts showed their real class, credit to grimsby for making it difficult. i thought they did well in the first half to cause us issues and their second goal was a very nice timed move. thankfully, we showed our better quality to win and i thought jodi jones was class. his crosses were pin point and gave us a means to get back into the game. i dont blame connell rawlinson or aaron nemane for the first goal, these things happen but we do need to make them less common.

It wouldn’t be Notts if they didn’t give us a bit of drama, I don’t mind the drama as long as we win, it makes for an exciting game.

In the first half, I thought we looked quite decent. However, we were very indecisive when going forward and played the ball back too many times, which killed any momentum we had gained. Instead of opening up the play, it became frustrating to see us get somewhere on the pitch where it looked like we could make something happen, only to bring it all the way back to the keeper or last defender.

This tendency of not making space or having players move can cause unnecessary problems. In the second half, things were very routine. I think David McGoldrick played very well in both halves. He and Jodi Jones linked up nicely, allowing others to get more involved in the game.

The table looks much better with those three points. I have to say, I never really doubted that Notts could win. It was good to hear Gary Lund’s comments at half-time, although I don’t think he was as convinced about the final outcome as I was. Dan Crowley looks like an excellent addition to the squad; his goal gave him the confidence to up his game. Jodi Jones played consistently and deserved his man of the match award.

A real show of character from the team, proving they are not made of sugar, as Williams put it. The resilience showed on-field was second to none, and it was clear the team was ready for the battle. The ground literally reverberated with the support from the fans. A necessary word of caution - less drama, more control. Let's continue the winning streak, Notts!

Notts illustrated a fantastic comeback victory in this match. Full credit goes to the team. Loving the fighting spirit that was shown, particularly during the situation where we went behind twice in the game. It's evident that this bunch mentality of not giving up and playing with grit is something that Williams has instilled in them.

However, one aspect that the team needs to work on is reducing the drama on-field. Williams correctly mentioned the habit of creating drama, which feels like a ticking time bomb. With more calm and composed play, the team can create opportunities and defend with better co-ordination. Let's hope Williams is quick to work on that.

Great to see such grit coming from Notts! It was a real roller coaster, especially with the team going behind twice, but the lads showed some real steel out there. Williams seems to have instilled some solid mental toughness in the team - which is desperately needed in these conditions. Can't forget the stellar performance from Brindley; his work in the middle was genuinely a game-changer. Rawlinson had a few stumbles, but I'm sure he'll bounce back stronger.

Glad we fought back to take the 3 points. And the support was fantastic. My son had taken his daughter and her friend ice skating on Saturday afternoon and he said he knew Notts had scored cos he heard the roar at the Arena. COYP

I must confess, as much as the drama increases the adrenaline, it'd be a relief to see a thorough, calculated win without giving the fans mini heart attacks. I hope Williams holds steadfast on his aim to reduce that. In addition, the controlled aggression during those first and second balls could be a game changer for the team if we can maintain that intensity across the game. Who else felt the ground shaking from the support? Absolutely wonderful to be a part of the roaring crowd.

What a game! It's pleasing to see Notts managed to make a cracking comeback, which really demonstrates the team's fighting spirit, well done to Luke Williams for fostering that drive. Admittedly, the match was a real heart-in-mouth experience at times, with the drama escalating occasionally; it might do the team good to have more composed playstyle. Regardless, the grit and toughness shown were stellar. Proud to be a Notts!

Watching this game felt like riding a roller coaster with its ups and downs. However, it's admirable how the players clung on and didn't give up. Williams should be praised for instilling that resilience in the team. Sure, the drama does get to your nerves, and it'll be great to see more composed performances in the future. I can't be harsh to Connell and well done to Brindley for his excellent game.

Luke Williams is correct in his assessment. It felt like our team had returned to form, but it's important not to dwell on the past two games. This is a new beginning and we now have something to defend. The win was particularly satisfying, especially since we managed to come back twice against a team of rivals. It's always a great feeling to triumph over adversity and emerge victorious. Hopefully, this marks the start of a successful run for our team.

Brilliant comeback win by Notts! The dedication, toughness, and fight for the shirt were evident on the field. The ground literally shook with the uproarious support from our incredible fans. A bit less drama and a little more composed play could absolutely make the team invincible. Fingers crossed for the rest of the season.
