On paper a very good signing and much needed solidity in the defence.

Really pleased with this signing. Bradford fans say he was their best defender. They are sorry to see him go. Matty is a great capture for us. Good in the air too.

Ticks some of the boxes that we’ve been missing. His passing stats look a little  worrying but as long as the players alongside him are fairly decent, then it should be fine. Played in the middle of a three for Barrow and not the quickest apparently.

Need two more to go with him now, expect one to be established and another as maybe up and coming.

he looks a good signing, coming from blackburn will mean he had something about him that a team like us could get out of him. i do wonder what bradford city fans will be thinking, but i dont pay attention so much to this because i know players can be different in other squads. i am pleased with the signing, its a good first addition to the squad.

@Fozzy agree, he may be a little slower, however if he can dominate our penalty area when crosses from corners, free clicks and from open play come in that will be a big plus for Notts.

And he averages a 7.1 for the season and 7 for the season before so it looks like Matty is a reliable defender who can be counted on match after match.

Reliable defender. Signed to be our main man in the back three.

Found this interesting stat from a Bradford City fan regarding Matty Platt.

An aerially dominate CB, that’s a very good start to this season’s transfer business and clever/reassuring to announce a defender first too.

From what I can gather the main criticism seems to be that his passing from the back wasn’t great and he hit a lot of balls into touch. Could this be more down to Bradford’s style of play and the instructions he was given? He must be able to play a bit as this was very much the style for Barrow under Ian Evatt. In team that has clear patterns to move the ball around from the back he’ll probably look a lot better.

Interestingly, against Bradford at home he got subbed on at half-time and we didn’t score again. He didn’t play when we beat them 3-0 either, maybe it would’ve been a different result if he had played! Kind of supports that post above from BantamDan, which is very interesting. He did play the majority of the games for Bradford when they finished in the Play-offs the season before too.

Maybe there is such a thing as the “Matty P effect” after all... I think he could be a player that Bradford will miss more than they realise.

I am impressed that Notts managed to sign him. I think it's important that we started by focusing on the defence, and I hope he settles in well. Then, we can focus on finding a first-choice number one or competition for Sam Slocombe and Tiernan Brooks.

@menzinho not worried about him kicking the ball out or hoofing it upfield. We need a bit more of that next season.

We shouldn't be afraid to hoof the ball at the right time, we have players further up the field that are capable of bringing the ball down and playing it across the floor. This is a very good signing, he looks physically strong and I can't comment further about his previous performances as I know very little about him. However, I was happy with his interview and comments from those who have seen him play (remember him playing) have spoken highly of him. Comments such as being surprised that he's not moved to a League One club is a good compliment.

@Chris we've got Jatta to receive those hoofs upfield & then shield the ball to keep possession😀

This is a good start to the summer's business, and it's also interesting from the point of view that Bradford have replaced him with Baldwin! He sounds very promising, but many Bradford fans have remarked that passing is not his strong suit. I hope we don't expect him to play in a way he's not comfortable with.
