I think he’s saying it to get a reaction, he didn’t make the mistake of criticising individuals, rather the whole team which I think is fair. They are still doing pretty well, 10th in the table is solid for them considering they don’t really have a big budget or a great team anymore. I get the aim is to push for play-offs, they would do incredibly well to achieve that. They haven't got close since Steve Cooper departed and that was when they still had all the financial benefits from being recently relegated.

Swansea lost again on Saturday at Hull 1:2. Luke wasn't happy with his players performance. 

Will the Swansea owners continue to back Luke or could we see a change in the new year if results don't improve?

It never ends well when the manager starts criticising the players, that’s why you often see managers taking the flak and protecting their players. If Luke has any sense (and I’m sure he has) he will keep the players onside he doesn’t want to lose the dressing room. When things aren’t going right it’s best to say they’re all in it together.

We are forgetting that what Luke Williams says to the media is all part of his management style, and although I think his criticism during our home performance against Forest Green Rovers - particularly the second half performance was very harsh, leading to our poor form and downward spiral. I do think this type of approach never works out well, but Williams does try to get the players to take some pride in the performances they give. Sometimes it works, often it seems to ruin morale. Swansea still have some players who don't really meet the standard he probably wants, and the message is probably more directed to them.

I like his honesty. I am sure he's very upfront with the players at his disposal, but I can't see their board sacking him over this or their recent results.

As for Swansea players sticking up two fingers, which isn't I have read on this - the only real way is by improving and doing their best.

It's a bit of a risk, but he'll have made a calculated gamble that it'll be a wake-up call and they'll respond well. A manager needs to have a certain amount of capital to play that card though - I doubt he'd have done it if he was unsure of his backing from the board.

Swansea currently sit 11th. Without knowing much about their finances/backing etc... that seems decent going for a club that get approximately 15k fans in the Championship and have been flirting with the bottom end of the table in more recent seasons.

i read yesterday that he said he was keeping away from the dressing room, it all seems very strange and i think its possibly nothing in it but the media playing things into a much bigger thing. swansea are doing well under luke williams, and i think everyone should remember where they were when he arrived and how it took him time to turn the fortunes around. they could and probably should be in league one this season.

Oh dear indeed! Who’d be a football manager. It must be one of the most stressful jobs ever.

Fans always know best.If things aren't going to plan  just blame the Manager/owners /Ref and certain players.

Luke Williams on the brink after another defeat.

 

 

Williams moved to south Wales in January 2024 after leaving his role at Notts County. Alan Sheehan will assume the role of caretaker head coach, with Williams’ backroom staff members Ryan Harley and George Lawtey leaving.

The grass is not always greener on the other side.This has been coming for a while. 

I'm sure it won't be long before Luke gets another job, but I wonder if he regrets leaving Notts?

Trouble is, it was going the same way for him at Notts, because he couldn't stop the run of bad results at Notts either. 

It’s no surprise really, unfortunately the run of matches they were on it was an inevitable outcome.

LW couldn't stop wheels coming off at Notts when the defence and keeper were not good enough. SM inherited that and still struggled.

Scouting at Swansea seemingly failed last summer and the January window just gone. Were the Swansea players having the correct ability to play the LW way?

BBC Sport Wales assesses Luke Williams' Swansea City reign as he departs with a feeling of what might have been.

 

I think sometimes being a Head Coach can be a thankless task sometimes.

I heard a report that Luke had lost the dressing room, I don't know whether it was true or just a rumour, but it does make the Job much harder if that happens.

Like I said, Luke will move on & learn from the experience. He'll get another appointment before long. It may even be back in League 2.

Looks like Steve Cooper may be emerging as a favourite to take over from Luke Williams at Swansea.
