Goalkeeper Tyler Miller to Notts

Featured Replies

OK, I'm assuming he'll be backup now as he seems to be lacking match practice. I'd never heard of an ESC payer before; in Germany, ESC is what they call the Eurovision Song Contest ;)

esc is the escape button to me, so i hope hes good. 🀣

question is, how does @PiethagoramΒ feel? i think sam slocombe might be retiring or at the very least moving on next season. i personally think hes good enough for the backup, but this would be the long term solution and could mean no need to focus on keepers in the summer.

Be interesting to know if he was in the country already prior to joining us, I just wonder why you’d move from the US for what will basically to play for 7-10 matches… Maybe we’ll get a little interview with him soon.

Anyway, I’m assuming we’ve signed him to play and will probably see him against MK otherwise the move will seem even more bizarre!

Also in my time supporting Notts I can't remember ever having a US player in the squad before, is he the first?Β

@liampieΒ Even at Newport, there was a moment when Slocombe had the ball at his feet, my heart was experiencing palpitations!

I think he is being signed as a #1 keeper.Β

Bloody hope so....I'll never forget the first 20 minutes at Wembley!!!!

Tentatively, Ade Akinbiyi joined #Notts having played for Houston Dynamo. Can't think of any US born Notts players at the moment. There was Marcus Haber but he was Canadian

Β

So he’d moved to Notting Hill I wonder if when we, Notts County, first called he thought he’d be playing a short walk away!

Still given the size of the US and distances they have to travel, Notts to London will seem like a short drive.

Great interview though, seems a really positive and driven guy.

I believe that Sam deserves to keep his place in the Notts side. He has three clean sheets to his name since he replaced Alex.Β

I agree Sam has earned his place since Bass was injured, I think it would be a slap in the face if the new keeper was picked ahead of him.

The move looks to me to be what might be considered a longer stay than what a trial would offer. I think Notts will have one eye on the availability of keepers, with the mindset of extending Tyler Miller if he does well.

It might also be budget-related, as come his contract expiry money will naturally become available.

I try to support all players, and I have no bad feelings towards any current player. They all work hard for us, and represent the fans well.

We have to be thankful to Sam Slocombe for what he's done. It's so easy to dismiss a player, but he's been with us during the worst part and became a regular first-team player who massively helped return Notts County back to the English Football League. I noticed a few years back, United fans turning on Wayne Rooney when he dropped into midfield, and I think it's a disgrace how quickly we discard and forget what players have done.

For a club that has had players come and go after a few years, I respect all that extra bit more when they have been with us for over five seasons. That's an achievement alone, and I hope Slocombe does retire with us and receives a good send-off.

Hear, hear to that Chris!

So easy to criticise, so hard to be constructive. Slocombe obviously has his weaknesses but he has worked hard for the club. Another JOB. He's made the best of his abilities.Β

I hope he does get a coaching role as I think we missed a trick with JOB. Having older ex-pros to guide the younger generation is a must in any profession.Β

P.S. Our man Tyler gives a very eloquent interview. Hope is distribution is as good ?

Firstly, it's a very encouraging signing and good to see the club still committed to strengthening the squad. If Notts miss out on automatic promotion, having a backup keeper would be crucial. I don't think Sam Slocombe has done anything to deserve being dropped, but sometimes you have to go with your strongest keeper. We don't yet know how Tyler Miller will fit into the team, but if he's more comfortable with the ball at his feet, it gives Stuart Maynard options.

I welcome the signing, but I agree that some fans quickly dismiss and turn on players. We saw this with Jim O'Brien when people on social media claimed he was past his best.

Tyler Miller's signing appears to be good cover. If he proves to be a strong addition and the club secures a longer-term deal, I'd be pleased to see this area addressed. With Sam Slocombe dealing with a back injury, there is a risk of being left without a first-choice goalkeeper, which could be a challenge. I think this signing is more about preparing for the playoffs rather than pushing for automatic promotion. It's great to see our fans already welcoming Miller and making him feel part of the team.

Notts hired Tyler Miller for a reason, to give them goalkeeping cover. The news that Bass is recovering & will be available soon will put Tyler further back in the pecking order.Β

Alex Bass will return to the side as soon as he's available. Even if Tyler doesn't get a game he's still done a job for Notts.

Well now that Bass is back this must go down as one of the most pointless signings ever. I can't believe we signed him just in-case Slocombe got injured, the chances of that happening were so slim but even if did happen we could’ve then loaned in an emergency keeper... I feel like we’ve just wasted money and Tyler’s time here…
