Renaming the A453

Featured Replies

There is a proposal to rename the newly refurbished A453 in honour of the 453 British soldiers that died in the war in Afghanistan.

Hero's Way or Bastion Way has been suggested and also planting poppies or 453 oak trees along the route.

This was suggested by a listener to Radio Nottingham and seems to be gathering pace.

What a great idea, what do you think?

If they can name a road Brian Clough Way then I'm sure this can happen.

i think its a great idea to re name it Hero's Way or Bastion Way, or something, not so sure about Oak trees though, Poppies yes. Things drop off Oak trees don't they, they'd be all over the place in autumn. So i think stick with the poppies.

I like the suggest, good mark of respect.

I know some think people are naming things for the sake of it but I just think its a nice gesture and touch.

A field where dreams become reality.

I am deeply uncomfortable with this increasing idolisation of the armed forces. I am sure the 453 soldiers deserve respect on an individual level. However, we seem to be slipping back towards labelling war as a heroic and noble thing, which in turn paves the way for more military adventures and more needless deaths.
