Hungarian Centre Forwards

In the week that Notts sign a Hungarian forward, we should perhaps spare a thought for the death on Sunday of Jeno Buzánszky, the last of the Magical Magyars who won 6-3 at Wembley and 7-1 at the Nep in 1953 and 1954. If he's half as good as any of them...

Were they the best team never to win the World Cup? I can only think of the 1974 Oranje as a possible alternative.

I really don't, it's before my time but I do know @super_ram used highly rate an Hungarian side.

Also, I forget the name of the star striker. I think it began with P (very prolific). It's quite possible he was apart of that squad you mentioned, as something tells me he was a player in the 50's and if I recall right, I think they shown Brazil how to play football.

Ferenc Puskas is the bloke you're looking for, my article the origins of total football covered this team

Hungary beat El Salvador 10-1 in the 1982 World Cup. A guy called Kiss came on as a sub with 34 minutes remaining and helped himself to a hat trick. I think he is the only player ever to come on as a sub and score a hat trick in the World Cup Finals. Karma is harsh and Hungary got a taste of their own medicine when the USSR beat them 6-0 in the 86 World Cup. Hungary haven't qualified for a major competition since.

Yes,The Galloping Major.I had the pleasure of seeing him on TV back in the days before we had blanket TV football coverage.I remember the commentator going on about Alfredo Di Stefano but Puskas was the stand out player.
