Don't think in the modern era football has ever been squeaky clean sadly , so much money awash in it for years now , brings out greed in some and the more they get the more they seem to want  and by any means . 

It's not just the Premier League it seems, yet it follows the football pyramid like a poison.

There's got to be reforms, and I would suspect anyone who doesn't think this - I know a few ex players have stated it just needs 'a little work' and transparency but I think it goes beyond that. Not just the English F.A and our game, but FIFA and the rest of the world. There's so many hands wanting free things for doing nothing, likewise with snakes that hang onto unworthy positions for the power it gives.

I say its time to change football for the better but I suspect there will be a carpet to clean things up (this always seems to happen).

We didn't get the right fee for Pennant because we cashed it in when we went into administration. The 2 million (?) fee was dependent on all sorts of things like Premier League appearances and England caps. But when we went into administration in the early 2000s we needed money fast, so settled for a smaller amount straight away. Don't quote me on this, it's from memory.

But I also remember the stories about agents visiting the Pennant household at the time. Any young player is going to get his head turned, and it's easy money for an agent. In Pennant's case it's a shame he didn't start his career with a season or two in our first team, it might have helped him keep his feet on the ground later on.

Well if its corrupt at the top, it will be at the bottom where there is no lights on the activity.

I'm not sure on the Pennant fee, but we definitely cashed in early at the time of admin on Steve Finnan.  We had a sell-on clause when we sold him to Fulham, but they paid us off at a reduced amount before selling him to Liverpool for £3.5 million.  These figures are only from memory, but I think the clause was 15% of any future sale, which would have netted us £525,000, but we accepted around a quarter of that amount because we were so desperate for cash at the time.

When we closed the academy to fund the wages of the driving force behind closing it a young lad went to Watford for peanuts, who (Watford) had up to that point been willing to pay what would have been quite a substantial fee.

do people ever know how to actually run notts? just seems every one makes fundamental mistakes all the time no matter who is in the running of it.

You're right, I was probably thinking of Steve Finnan. Although I do wonder whether the same thing happened with the Pennant fee.

It sounds awful and an incredible waste with the benefit of hindsight, but we had appointed an administrator whose job it was to rustle up money as quickly as possible.
