Why did Shaun Brisley start in midfield against Macclesfield?

I think Harry Kewell mentioned that he wanted someone watching Koby Arthur and that it had to be someone defensive minded, I'm not sure otherwise because even if what I believe is correct - it's just a very odd decision.

In my opinion Arthur wasn't prevented, he did a lot of the build up work for Macclesfield and we looked too defensive if anything.

Personally I think it may have been to add a bit of bulk to the back, however to choose to play him as a CM was bizarre and although people can argue and say it worked. I feel it impacted how Notts could play the ball, Noor Husin and Nathan Thomas both looked to get this corrected when they came on.

I can only think that it was purely tactical based. We have Husin, Vaughan etc who could have slotted in nicely but they have a huge CF who needed at least two defenders on him at all times which left no aerial battle in midfield. I guess that is what Brisely's job was at the weekend to win the aerial battles.
