  1. Great goal by Macaulay. He's so deadly either inside or outside the box.
  2. I agree @Chris When you look at other sporting icons & those outside sport, who were more deserving of recognition & didn't get it. This seems to happen a lot.
  3. I agree @Piethagoram about Jimmy. A Manager that took a club from the 4th Division up to the Ist should have had more recognition from the powers that be. The achievement may never ever be repeated.
  4. As a result of last night's game against Morecambe, Luke, Macaulay & Dan have been included in the team of the week.
  5. Pleased for our local sporting heroes, & especially pleased for Howard Wilkinson. He deserves it for his work in Football and his charity work.
  6. I agree. If there is a bid in for Langstaff from a Championship club & I hope there isn't, it has to be £5million minimum. He's too valuable an asset to even consider less than that.
  7. Albert William Fisher (Feb 1881 – 4 Dec 1937) was an English professional footballer who scored 23 goals from 56 appearances in the Football League playing as an inside forward for Aston Villa, Bristol City & Manchester City. He also played for Southern League clubs Brighton & Hove Albion, Bradford Park Avenue, Queens Park Rangers, Coventry City and Merthyr Town. As player-manager, he led Merthyr Town to the Southern League Second Division title in 1911/12. Albert joined Notts County as Secretary Manager, (that's what they called Managers then), succeeding the previous Manager, Tom Harris in Aug 1913 & Managed the club through World War 1 till May 1927. He guided Notts to the Division 2 title in the 1913/14 and 1922/23 seasons. In all Albert Managed Notts over 444 matches, winning 167, drawing 114, & losing 163 with a win percentage of 39.62% (source Google) Albert is another Notts County great that got us promoted twice into the top tier of English Football, & thus cementing his legendary status at our club.
  8. I agree with these posters. Having been watching football for over 55 years I have seen a decade by decade improvement in the standard of football over all the four top divisions and the top tier of non league. The top six teams challenging for promotion from League 2 this year could easily compete in the 2nd tier of 25 years ago in my opinion. And I believe the Premier League has lifted this standard all round, although there remains a big gulf between Premier League & the Championship.
  9. The attendance against Morecambe was 9,786 including 179 away supporters. A great turnout for a night match against a mid table side.
  10. It was always going to be hard to replace Ruben, but in Dan we have a real gem.. Not only is he an excellent playmaker, he also adds to our threat up front too, by the way he glides Into the opposition penalty box like a.centre forward,, to get on the end of those crosses. It certainly gives Notts an extra dimension up front too.
  11. That is some display from the team tonight. Luke changed the system a little for the Stockport match and Macca has a much freer role and now he's all over the pitch, but it doesn't stop him popping up in the box when needed. He's some player isn't he.
  12. 8 goals for 0 conceded in two games. Just what the Doctor ordered.
  13. What can you say about Macaulay Langstaff? A beautiful hat trick tonight including a penalty. All in all it's been a great night for Notts now only 4 points behind second place, we stand in 5th place on 42 points.
  14. A fantastic end to the year.
  15. What a first half by the lads.
  16. Tom Harris managed our club from 1893 to 1913, a very long period of time for a Club Manager. They were actually called Secretary Managers in those days. Tom is the only Notts County Manager that has lifted the FA Cup, winning it in 1894, when Notts defeated Bolton Wanderers 4:1 at Goodison Park. Notts were actually a Division 2 club when they won the Cup, defeating 3 Top tier sides on the way to their triumph. Tom also guided Notts to the Division 2 Championship in season 1896/97 and a 3rd place in Division 1 in 1900/01. Tom is a true legend of Notts County Football Club & his achievement is unique, which puts him equal to all the other great Managers who have served this club.
  17. What a great signing to end the year. Scott Robertson is a new Magpie.
  18. Again, if injury free I would keep with the same side. Key areas will be our defence. Keep the errors to a minimum. If in doubt kick it out. Be weary of being hit on the break when we are upfield on set pieces/corners. Move the ball quickly through the channels and get behind them. Jodi will be key for us again. We are very capable of getting a win here. I'm going 2:1 to Notts.
  19. There will be no surprise to others on my choice. It has to be the one and only Jimmy Sirrel. Mr Notts County. Which Manager can have included in his CV, taking a club from the 4th tier of Football to the 1st? Not only did he lead but he built a team to traverse each league and motivate that team to success. Not only did he do all that, but he also had wit and a personality too, & He loved this club with a passion.
  20. Who's you favourite Manager/Head Coach at Notts? We've seen the great, the good, the average & the poor come through that Meadow Lane door over the last 55 years.
