It will be great to have a pint of good old Shippo's, it was a bit like marmite you either love it or hate it. For my part I loved it but it had to be kept right by a good landlord otherwise it was rank.

Β

Anyone else remember Shippo's it was brewed at Basford and bit the dust in the 70's I think.

Welcome back old friend. :happy banana:

I think it's pretty cool, the building had a blimp over it awhile back. I wonder why?

Not that I'd bother trying it, beer isn't my drink. It's important none the less especially when someone known locally, returns in such fashion. It's a bit like comparing Wham bars for to me. I just hope you guys aren't disappointed!

:)

never heard of them, if you pair like it that is great.

You're too young Liam you have to be an old fogey like me and @super_ram, when I was your age I was drinking Shippos and mini skirts and hot pants were all the rage. Mind you I never looked good in either

Granny and me used to go in The Devonshire Arms in Alfreton before we were married. This was a Shippo's house and served a great pint. As with all beer it had to be kept well ( Offilers, the Derby brew was another) When we started going in pubs ,my mates and I soon found out the best places for a decent pint.

As for Joe and my other son,Will, well what can I say .It's their choice what they drink.(They don't know what they're missing). At least they drink sensibly-quantity not quality!

Thanks for letting me know,Tony

I like things like WKD, Smirnoff Ice, Bacardi Breezer, Kopparberg. (I don't drink often though - not very often at all)

I also like Whiskey, prefer it on it's own but don't mind it with ice. Proper Vodka (typically Russian) and I have a thing for Taboo. I can't blame GrannyPie for that, I'm really glad she introduced it to me and it's possibly the only one listed above I'd drink repeatedly. I tend to change between :P

Now there is a name I haven't heard for awhile, I always thought it were a shame that the brewery closed down and disappeared. Famous local landmark, used to go past regularly between making trips to and from Bulwell.
