  1. this is quite the shame as i hoped we could extend his stay, he looks a very solid upcoming keeper and the way hes been doing, i think sam slocombe would have had to wait to get back in goal due to the performances.

I want to credit Dagenham for making a game of it because early on, Notts looked a step above them and that made them play a lot more carefully. Before we scored, they had a few good chances to take the lead themselves.

It made the game very open and added to the excitement.

Notts needed to up their game at times, as weak passes, poor decision making meant that a lot of build up play was wasted. Good goals, but once we retook the lead I feared they would pull level and they did threaten.

@menzinho o brien tends to be a game changer for us, he always comes on fired up and gets the players passing the ball around in different ways. i think he makes more of an impact coming on from off the bench. he played very well against dagenham!

i thought we could have had several goals, joel taylor missed plating up kyle wootton.

terrible decision to go it alone but it did not matter really, but the win did gives us something once again to build on. defensively, i was not impressed with the opposition and i wished we caused them a bit more trouble.

Considering the coldness and television presence, both teams made it a good game.

Dagenham caused a lot of issues early on, but defensively they did not cope as much with Notts. I think we lead the game quite luckily, as we did not seem clinical enough on goal. Their equaliser, I feel was well deserved and it was superbly taken.

In the second half, Notts upped the ante and got their rewards when the winner went in.

  3. Bit late but as we've got no match to look forward to at the weekend we can drag the chat about the last match that bit longer!

Slocombe 6 – Good shot stopping but not able to deal with their corners.

Brindley 7 – One dodgy pass that gave them a chance but other than that he was relatively comfortable all game.

Lacey 7.5 – Thought he was solid all game, dealt well with their balls into the box.

Cameron 7.5 – Same as Lacey, couple of good runs on the ball too and great leap for the goal from the corner.

Parsons 6 – Never going to easy for him having only had one training session with the team, decent defensively but didn’t cause them any problems and wasn’t much of an outlet for us.

Taylor 7 – Solid defensively, plenty of good forward runs too. Should have been more composed to square it to Woots at the end.

Palmer 7 – Positioning is always good, tidy on the ball, he is really our key player in midfield at the moment.

Vincent 6.5 – Lots of running and energy, not everything came off for him though. Good reactions for the goal but I think it was going in anyway.

Roberts 6.5 – Almost feels harsh considering the assist but I though he was largely one bit of good play, one bit of poor play in CM.

Rodrigues 6.5 – Never really impacted the game like he can. Got into some good positions in the box and probably should’ve scored one of his two big chances.

Wootton 7 – Usual running and endeavour, held the ball up well and took his opportunity when it came.

    Subs

O’Brien 6.5 – Thought he helped us push on and get the winner, worked himself into some good spaces and although not every ball came off he tried to play forward.

  4. He looks a good addition even if its until late Jan, plenty of time to try to sort out an extension.

Chicksen did play poorly, end of. Even his fans can't defend his shoddy performance against Rochdale.

Does saying "end of" mean nobody else can comment?  Of course his performance can be defended, and to prove it here are a few match ratings from elsewhere:

Chicksen 7 - Flipped a switch 10 mins into 2nd half and had a fantastic 15mins. More of that, please.

Chicksen - 8* - Thought he was excellent. Another assist too

Chicksen - 8* - Was troubled a couple of times by Rochdale's high press early on but recovered and delivered a sublime cross that led to the equaliser. Was brilliant in the second half.

Two of them made him their man of the match, I would have rated him a solid 7 and thought he had a decent game.

I find what you say to be fair, although I clearly disagree.

I also don't intend for the reaction to be offensive towards you, but I did feel amused by the comments suggesting he played an 8 (or even came close to being named the MOM).

  7. What? Another prediction league round already? Yes - there's another full set of fixtures on Tuesday night, so don't miss out! All of these matches kick off at 7.45pm on Tuesday, and remember your jokers. Good luck!

All in all considering their home form it’s not a bad result, just the loss at the weekend means 1 point from 2 games so we really need a win against Dagenham to just make sure we don’t start to fall away.

No-one above us won and Grimsby, Halifax and Bromley all lost so that’s a point gained on them! And it’s great that Altrincham scored two late goals against Chesterfield… Good wins for Wrexham and Stockport, is that the two big money teams slowly on the rise now?

I am not disappointed, it sounded like a decent performance but I think now highlights that we need to improve in a few crucial areas if we aim to get promoted. Another striker is a must, someone who can finish the chances we create and possibly a winger who can run down the by line taking the opposition on.

I like Joel Taylor, but he drifts in and plays deeper.

As for the result, yes Notts could've won the match 1-0. I just feel that it gives a base to show where we need to improve away from home.

saturday should be a better result, take the draw but try to go on a winning streak. the past two games could really have been better. :(

  9. Qualified ratings as sat behind the goal

Slocombe 4 Loss of Paterson immense. Stood on line for first, missed coming for the ball for the 2nd, 2 good saves later, prevented it being 4

Brindley 4 A few forward forays but without confidence that any end result being delivered. Defensively weak

Rawlinson 4 Just gets found out when asked to play football.

    Chicksen 4,. Average

DKE  4.5 Tough time defensively against Vincent Harper

Taylor 5 Frustrating that he doesnt get down the line more

Palmer 6.5 (MoTM) seems to get 100% pass accuracy

    Vincent 4 Anonymous

Roberts 5 Homework down, defenders to block when he cuts inside

    Ruben 5 Took a knock 1st half

Wootton 5 No change from their centre halfs

    Subs

Francis 4 one shot went wide...doesnt offer anything

  11. Just at the time I am aiming and hoping that fans will share discussions/questions, the perfect one crops up on our Facebook account. Wayne posted 'I'd like to open a discussion on what facility's could be improved at Meadow Lane'. Now, I'd like discuss it here whilst I prepare to slot it into the schedule on our social pages.

Brilliant question though, lets discuss the facility's and how they can be improved at Meadow Lane.

I know exactly how they can be improved, I'll post later on though.

Sadly it's going to happen a few more times before the season ends. And this is what's going to keep us in this league for another season

    3. Piethagoram

      Piethagoram

Eastleigh compacted space so well, everyone behind the ball...our best chance, absurdly in a way was when they had possession..but we are not quick enough to counterattack.

Teams know we are vulnerable to the high ball into our box... Need some real thought process into our central defensive personnel

    4. BromPie

Eastleigh always do well against teams that want to pass and play proper football, you need to mix it up to get a result. If Cal Roberts had found the net first from his chance, then it could've been different but otherwise we played to their strengths.

I agree its a disappointing result.

  13. The business model of finding talent that can do well at our level, but attract interest higher up is starting to take hold. Ruben Rodrigues is attracting interest from Blackburn Rovers. Supposedly Blackpool and Rotherham United are too.

I think its likely that Kyle Wootton and some of our other key players will be on the radar.

Notts has not managed to sell assets on successfully for years, yes we have let go of youngsters but a club like Notts this will always be the case. Pricing players wisely and recruiting replacements will be a test for Notts and something quite new. Yes, we have been doing well with this regards since the takeover of the club from the hands of Alan Hardy, but we have been lucky to retain the best players.

  14. I stumbled across a video on YouTube by CV Academy, it shows a training session which our manager, Ian Burchnall held with them. It shows some of his insight towards possession play and, building the thirds of the pitch - gaining space, so that play opens up.

This is something which he focuses on with Notts and, I wished I found it at the time when Don Masson made his comments about the club in 'modern times' building up from the back. It's a short video, but very detailed and, something I would encourage people to see. The games are always adapting, but always something behind what seems like madness.

PS. I haven't seen this shared anywhere before, I wonder if it ends up doing the rounds after this. 😁

  15. I am a big fan of Ian Burchnall's post match comments, his well thought out responses and tactical knowledge is a joy. He's not afraid to point things out, in a very constructive and calm manner. He's by far the most enjoyable manager, that I go out of my way to hear what his thoughts are.

Good to see the confidence lifting, I didn't think much of that Dallas or Rooney - they should be a formidable team at this level but we kept them quiet.

I don't think Solihull really troubled Patterson, he looked calm and collected.

The atmosphere could've been better before we led the game but it was still amazing, great team performance.

Kyle Hudlin did far more in those minutes he had, than Andy Dallas or Adam Rooney combined. Not the effective switch, but he gave Notts something to think about. Kyle Wootton marking him, then going down due to the collision with Hudlin was a concerning few minutes.

It was more of a reference to his ridiculous 6ft 9inch size than footballing ability and Wootton handled him brilliantly, he just bullied him to the point that he never looked like scoring.

Yeah, pleased with the result and the performance. Agree with IB post match comments that it was a shame we couldn't push on a get another goal. Now it's our turn to play at home, and given the draw is made tonight it could potentially be even more of an incentive if we draw either a L1 team (or Mansfield).

It showed that the gap to the NL and L2 isn't much if anything nowadays, I'm currently watching Dagenham v Salford just waiting for the 2nd round draw and although Salford are 1-0 up there's not a lot in it and it could easily be 1-1...
