Over in the Bundesliga, Hertha Berlin are struggling despite a lot of investment. They've sacked another manager and appointed Felix Magath, a retired manager with a fearsome reputation in the game for making players run long distances in training. Magath has also brought in his own assistant manager, none other than ex-Notts midfielder Mark Fotheringham!
And that's not all - with Magath suffering from covid symptoms, it was Fotheringham who took charge of the team for yesterday's home game against TSG Hoffenheim, overseeing a 3-0 win. He topped off a good day's work by taking his post-match interviews in German (not always a given with British managers and players in Germany, sadly) and berating a reporter for asking idiotic questions about Braveheart. I was expecting him to pop up in Germany again (he was sacked as Ingolstadt assistant manager earlier this season), but not in the Bundesliga at a club like Hertha. Pretty random.

Lesson reinforced from the Dagenham game, Rawlinson can't play the centre half roaming forward with the ball from the back, as his passing is not good enough to play "BurchnallBall"
-
That could be an absolutely pivotal win for us, a defeat would have left us well short of the play-off spots. I wasn't expecting Arter to start straight away, but the illness situation must have forced IB's hand. He certainly made a difference.
-
I was hoping that anyone who went would had reported how they thought Arter did, I can only go by radio commentary who thought he had a good hour.
-
Jaros 7 had to pull off a near post save towards the end to preserve the 3 points
Brindley 6.5 Steady in defence Subbed at H/T
Rawlinson 3.5 Burchnall ball found wanting. Terrible pass led to the Dagenham goal. Just not comfortable striding forward with the ball
Lacey 7 Thumping header for 1-1. Subbed at H/T
Chicksen 6 Steady
Richardson 6.5 Great run to create the winner
Arter 6 A bit rusty but cool head at times
Vincent 4 Early promise seems to have evaporated
Palmer 5.5 Tidy, but no real cutting forward passes
Mitchell 3.5 Apart from one good flick to Richardson, just looks lost in a positional sense
Wootton 6.5 Much more involved than of late
Subs
DKE 6.5
Sam 4.5
Francis 4.5

There seems to be a bug/illness in the squad. Players vomiting at half time. No wonder the performance wasn't up to scratch. I think Notts should request a postponement of the next game. No way players will have recovered fully by Saturday.
-
A bizarre one then, it leaves me with more questions than answers.
Could we have actually postponed that game? I don’t think you can do it for Covid now...
But if 50% of that matchday squad were ill, then why even bother playing them. We were never going to get anything from the game if we had players trying to play when they were clearly in no physical condition to do so.
And then does that mean we had fit players on the bench? Lacey and Rawlo were highlighted as particularly struggling. I’d have played only non-ill players and just taken the hit. Just explain to us that you can't postpone the game but some players were just too ill. If that meant Woots and Chicks as a center back pairing and Doyle and D-KE as the CM pairing, so be it. Chances are the result would’ve been the same anyway.
Also sadly for what is our season defining month, it’s not going well. I still think we have a good chance of finishing in the play-offs we’ve got an easy run in (on paper) but I just think if we have to play a team in the play-offs away from home (very likely), right now I just can’t see us progressing.
-
I thought we requested a postponement for this and Dagenham @Dripsey3... This would have been a hard enough game without all the illness, Stockport are a very different proposition now to earlier in the season.
Instead of playing ill players, I'd have dipped into the youth team. But that's easy to say after the event, and the result wouldn't have been any different.

Mitchell and Jaros will miss the Boreham Wood and Chesterfield games to play for their respective countries.
Also Jim O’Brien messaged and rightly so called out some so called fans that used the news to have a dig at these players. Commenting like that right under the post just isn’t on.
Brindley and Cal have been called up for the England C team with Woots and Palmer on standby too. They play Wales C on Wed 30th March, no idea if they’ll miss any games but that’s in between the Chesterfield and Southend game…
We are struggling with illness and injuries at the moment, great news for the players but it's not come at an ideal time for us!

Bit disappointing to go out at this stage but we always had bigger fish to fry this season, unfortunately we look like ending the season as also rans unless something changes very quickly.
-
Jaros 6.5 Couldnt be faulted for any of the goals. so nearly saved the penalty for Solihull's opener, then wrongly adjudged by the hopeless ref for a 2nd penalty, linesman overruled
DKE 6 Combative, bordering on a red card
Rawlinson 6 Game made for his heading
Lacey 7 Great header to score from a corner
Chicksen 6 Got exposed defensively at times for not putting in a challenge
Francis 5 sometimes too easily challenged in midfield
Vincent 5 effort yes, but quality wasnt there
Brunt 5 hit the post, coudnt make things happen
Ruben 8 motm .... 2 goals 1 assist
Wootton 7 a better game than recent performances, lovely through ball to Ruben
Roberts 5 Anonymous 2nd half

Another two points we could scarcely afford to drop, at precisely the moment when teams who are serious about promotion are building momentum. Was it as bad as I've been hearing?
-
It was worse @DangerousSausage
Started off quite promising for the first few minutes. Yeovil started the game with the high press, but we managed to get through it and created a couple of really good chances. We then went right off the boil and the rest of the half was pretty average.
Second half we were woeful. Awful header from Francis to put us in a mess and although Jaros managed to block the first effort, he had no chance with the goal as he was out of his area.
Never put them under any real pressure and got lucky with the equaliser.
Highlight of the day for me was the Melee. Tempers were frayed, so our response was to bring on that timid soul DKE! Their number 14 was subbed to stop him getting sent off from another foul and I thought Ruben was going to go with his reactions to the ref not giving him anything.
I think at the moment unless something changes, we'll struggle to make the playoffs, we're not a big or physical enough a side and if teams press us we struggle as we only have one playing style.

That's a good summary. Based on the clear cut chances we created in the first half it's a game we should have won, but once we had given them a goal we were truly awful and a bit fortunate that their marking was lacking in stoppage time. We look good when we are on it, but hard working, well organised, but limited teams like Yeovil cause us more problems than they should. I think we'll make the playoffs, but winning them looks a bit of a dream at the moment.

Woking can be difficult to break down. Given the number of chances Notts need to create to score a single goal, it could be a long afternoon. 0-0 I reckon.
-
Good result, but I would have been disappointed had we not won.
-
Good result, and great to hear that Eli Sam is hitting form! It's looking tight again and if we don't fritter away our game in hand we could be right in the mix for the top three. Need snookers for top spot, but it's not impossible.
