Leeds United v Watford

Swansea City v Sheffield Wednesday

Cambridge United v Port Vale

Portsmouth v Lincoln City

Morecambe v Swindon Town

Stockport County v Wrexham

Gateshead v Maidenhead United

Oldham Athletic v Oxford City

Stone 5.5 - no major errors, but didn't look confident. Distribution not as good as usual.
Baldwin 6 - some classy touches, but dodgy positioning a few times.
Brindley 7 - looks much better in the centre, some crucial blocks.
Cameron 6 - looked better going forward than he did defending.
Austin 5.5 - didn't offer his usual threat, looks better on the left.
Palmer 6.5 - fairly typical game, but didn't dominate like he can.
Bostock 7 - good at both ends of the pitch, took his goal well.
Jones 8* - a constant threat, caused them problems and also defended well.
Crowley 6.5 - good when he was involved, but had a few quiet spells.
McGoldrick 7 - always a threat and tracked back well. Clinical finish for his goal.
Langstaff 7 - typical Macca, non-stop harrying and lost his markers to score.

TAR 7 - gave us a new attacking dimension on the right.
Rawlinson 6 - did ok apart from conceding the penalty.
JOB 5.5 - won the ball and lost the ball in equal measures.

Still not sure what to make of the game. I know Luke Williams always compliments the opposition, but I don't know if they're as good as he made out. We were awful for the first 20 minutes of the second half, and never regained the control we had in the first half. I don't think we played that well but still got the 3 points, which is supposed to be the mark of a good team. It will be interesting to see the xG stats and I think they will probably be in our favour, but we made hard work of it today.

  • During his first loan, I was quite fond of Sam Graham, although he did become somewhat nervous and prone to mistakes over time. I hope he does well. I’ve noticed it’s only a short-term deal, and I don’t believe it’s conducive to his development to not be settled with a club that will play him for the long term. I hope he finds his footing in the National League.

I concur that Sam Graham started off well, but he quickly faded into obscurity and became ineffective. I lost my regard for him after that, and when he returned for the second time, I seriously questioned the rationale behind it.

It may be the international break, but I think I've managed to cobble together a prediction league round regardless. The rules are the same, please post your predictions by kick-off time (Saturday 3pm) and you get one joker each. Good luck!

  • I terms of what’s posted on twitter, Tom’s comments were relatively tame. I can tell you right now the replies to Notts’ tweet about him giving away a pen or the reaction (overreaction) to the tweet about MK Dons scoring will be much worse.

Feels like he’s picked on the wrong guy here. Especially when you see the same names posting things like β€œX needs to do one” or β€œX is so bad” (that’s the expletive subbed version!). If he replied to one of them I can’t imagine the backlash would be as bad, they offer no critic and are just personal insults. Instead, he went for someone who slightly criticised what he did on the pitch.

Connell Rawlinson might think that Tom Williams is the cause of the problem. He probably doesn’t like Tom because of the negative comments from people who claim to know better about certain players. It’s not really Tom’s fault, he just shares his opinions. However, it can be risky when he interacts with people who are rude, as it can seem like he is endorsing their behaviour. Some of the negative comments about Rawlinson have been responded to, which isn’t a good idea, even if you are upset. There’s a difference between tweeting something that should stay private and responding to rude tweets. It’s easy to see why it might seem like he is the target. I don’t blame Tom, but it would be better if he avoided these kinds of interactions. It never reflects well on you. Connell should block and ignore these people.

It’s disheartening to see Connell Rawlinson publicly criticising someone for merely expressing their thoughts. Whether he has the right to do so or not, some things are better kept private. However, considering the criticism he likely receives, it’s forgivable. Hopefully, Tom Williams won’t take it personally and will distance himself from any abuse. This would demonstrate that he’s not there to cause trouble but to share his thoughts. From what I’ve seen of his tweets shared here, Tom seems like a bright lad who hasn’t done anything wrong.

hello @Andrew Edwards, welcome to the pride of nottingham.

welcome to the pride of nottingham, @Gary Adamson.

for Port Vale

Β

I didn't recall the name until I saw his wiki photo, then I remembered him. He was too lightweight and easily overpowered back then, but he was young. On paper, I remember feeling the loan would give us some pace, but he never got going.

I wasn't even aware he played for Forest Green Rovers, I wished I had checked in hindsight as it would have been interesting to note how he did if he played against us.

i dont remember him at all, he made 3 appearances? was this during the trew period where we just signed youth players on loan and expected them to be improvements over senior squad players?Β

So what plans have you got for this weekend, or what have you been up to?

We are still on the Isle of Wight the weather was pretty awful for part of the week but it’s considerably better these last two days, today we’ve been using our old farts bus passes to go to Cowes on the excellent bus service. Β

Tomorrow I’ll be keeping an eye on the match and hoping Notts win, we’ll probably go on the bus again to our favourite pub in Ventnor for lunch, it’s called The Spy Glass and it’s right on the seafront.

What are your plans?

  • We should express our gratitude for having Gareth Southgate as our coach. Once he leaves, we will likely regress to being an average team that can only hope to reach the semi-finals or knockout stages of major tournaments. Those who have constantly criticized him will soon realize how valuable he was. Sometimes, we fail to appreciate someone's worth until they are gone. This is evident with Germany, who are now experiencing difficulties due to their own costly errors. In all honesty, I'm not surprised by their current struggles.

i dont keep up to date with many international teams, so i was not aware about this and did not know that germany were having a difficult time. could it be because of the shift with the bundesliga seeing more foreign players join and less top german's leaving for the likes of the premier league?Β

It really wasn't such a surprising decision - Germany had won just four of their previous 17 games, an unimaginably poor record for them. And this in the run-up to the 2024 European Championships in Germany, where the team will be under pressure to deliver. A good club manager doesn't always make a good national team manager, as we discovered with Taylor, Capello and many others.

Which brings us to the new man, Julian Nagelsmann, who has been given an eight-month contract. This makes no sense at all - if you're going down the short-term route, you want someone who has managed a national team before, such as Louis Van Haal or Steffen Kuntz. Instead they've appointed someone who has only been a club manager and who prefers a high-octane pressing style that takes a lot of coaching - not something you can really drill into the players during international breaks.

Can we all welcome our new member @Banquo to PoN!

  • Despite his injuries, Mason Bennett has performed admirably. His ability to continue playing at the League One level speaks volumes about his innate talent, a feat most players wouldn’t have been able to achieve. I hope he and Burton can orchestrate a turnaround, as there’s no denying he’s a striker of high quality.

i totally forgot about him, but it is good to see hes still playing league football. he has to have something about him if he can continue despite all his injury issues. it might have impacted his game time and career somewhat, but if he has a love of football just playing professional considering everything seems a good reward.

Morning all, is anyone doing anything exciting this weekend? I guess some will be travelling to Salford tonight.

We spent the night in a hotel in Newbury and this morning we are travelling to Southampton to catch the Isle of Wight ferry where we are staying for a 10 day holiday.

Let us know what you are up to or have been up to this weekend (assuming it’s legal of course).Β :joker:

  • i drove to salford on friday with @CliftonMagpie, meeting up with @TheSkipperΒ at the ground. it was another decent away day, but i felt packed in, in their stands and i wished i could have had a seat about half way into the game. having worked earlier in the day, it was a bit too much to stand for 90 minutes but the result was worth it.

saturday i went out playing pokemon go for a bit, before going for a drink with my dad and uncle.

sunday, i helped my mum do her weekly shopping and then had sunday dinner with mum, my aunt and my other uncle.

I also went to Salford, along with @Magic magpie, @super_pieΒ and @Callum234.

Considering how long Salford City has been owned by the former United players, I couldn't believe how non-league their ground was. It was just terrible. Nuneaton and several other clubs have such a nicer stadium.

The flooring was one of the worst things about the ground; it was just a metal shed.

Yet I wondered what would happen if something bad would happen, and there is only one area to each part where you can walk freely without meeting a bar that would force you to bend under to get out of the stand. Seriously, it seemed a poor design. I hope to god no fans to the size of ours that have the misfortune to need to exit quickly without being crushed.

    Saturday, I rested.

Sunday, I went to Kate's Nanna's 90th birthday. Unfortunately, one of her friends had a heart attack and died before making it to her party. She wasn't aware, but knew she had gone to the hospital. I couldn't help but feel it was very obvious, as I am sure someone would have said they were fine otherwise without hiding it. It made the occasion feel a bit saddening for her. It was nice to see her with all the great grandchildren mind.

  • From the list I'd like us to look at Conor Keeley, Josh Honohan and Ben McCormack.

Two players that aren't on the list and I'm not sure about their contract situation are Derry City pair Cameron McJannet and Ben Doherty. We tried to get their manager before we went for Luke Williams and with us having bids rejected for Keeley, I wouldn't be surprised if we looked into the League of Ireland.

Sam Curtis is another with potential but I think he'll go higher

Conor Keeley could be a good signing, if he's willing to talk to Notts once his contract is up or if other fans are right, that he will be heading to Walsall. Whatever the outcome, I don't think Notts needs to worry or become obsessed with trying.

There will be plenty of targets, with a handful potentially playing in the Irish league.

its good that we can pick up players on free who give us more quality and depth, but i can see notts signing a couple for a fee once the transfer window opens up. nothing wrong with looking at the irish or scottish league tho.
