Itβs been a long time since I last read the Left Lion magazine. I used to get it from the Navi, but I havenβt seen any recently. Colin Sisson has written a nice article. Itβs a bit unfortunate with the timing as he couldnβt have predicted what would happen. This means Notts needs to step up their game.

@cheeky~k8 I agree with you, itβs all down to Colin Sissons. ???? Excellent summary though, very thorough and straightforward.
Poor Colin, it's just bad timing, but it's a great write-up. I am confident that they are capable of bringing further wins, so Colin Sisson can round those up.
If after that, we lose. We know it's a Left Lion and Colin Sisson curse! Β

The performance wasn't bad, but the defending and Aidan Stone's passing were the problems. I think Luke Williams should tell the players not to always try to play the ball out from the back. I can see when it is useful and effective, but when a team presses and tries to win the ball, it can lead to problems. Look at the playoff final against Chesterfield. They came out trying to score early and it caused us problems. I don't know why we can't identify these problems before they become a problem, like we saw against Colchester United.
@menzinhoΒ That's a valid point, I had forgotten about Baj. He seemed to be improving in his position, and while I have great admiration for Jim O'Brien, he doesn't possess the same playing style as them. I'm not implying that Jim isn't deserving of a starting position, but there is a suitable time and place for it. In my opinion, Colchester wasn't that team.

The start of season dismissals are always high, its not always down to the manager fully.
Is there a tally of dismissed managers? It seems like a high number for this point in time.

It's games like this. I dream of upgrading to an executive box and reliving the wonderful moments of our previous PON gathering.
I hate Meadow Lane when it's overcrowded; it's frustrating and leads to my anxiety playing games.
I've also heard we have sold out.
@Chris Iβm not keen on going to matches with large crowds either but I guess the fact that we are getting large crowds is good for the club so we shouldnβt complain.
An executive box is an expensive way to watch a match and the atmosphere isnβt the same. I did sit near the vice presidents seats (I think thatβs what theyβre called) and I must admit I envied then their spacious padded seats with an excellent view as I was squashed between two very large gentlemen but the cost of buying one of those for a season is way more than Iβd want to spend.
I would expect it to sell out aswell. Should be a good game though.
Itβs the weekend again, Iβm sure itβs eagerly awaited for all you workers or students, I know I always looked forward to it when I worked.
What plans have you all got? Some will no doubt be travelling to see the Super Notts so safe travels and bring back the points.
Tonight being Friday I will be enjoying Mrs. Tβs famous curry, this time itβs Lamb and Spinach and Iβll wash it down with my first pint of the week. Tonight we are watching a film on Prime called The Lost Flowers of Alex Hart, which has been recommended to us.
Tomorrow itβs Park Run day, then we are visiting a kitchen shop to finalise the plans for our revamped kitchen, in the afternoon Iβll be glued to Radio Nottingham.
Whats everyone else up to?
i am off to colchester tomorrow, i am picking up @CliftonMagpieΒ and then @TheSkipper.Β
i have not been to colchester before so i hope its a straight forward drive but i am looking forward to it, having been to all the games so far. i feel it gives me a better understanding of how notts are doing and its impressive how each games atmosphere makes it all the more enjoyable.
sunday i am staying at home, my mum and aunt are going out for the day. so, i will find things around the house to do.
I may pop round my dads again, I need to weigh myself, but I am starting to lose weight which is nice.
I have a health person advising me, which most of it is simple, but it does help. So, I will have to spend some time reviewing my food diary and to ensure I get some exercise in at home. The walk would be a useful thing too, as going and coming back will add up.
Before my little ramble, I mentioned going to my dad. I spent the time with him from 1 until kick off. I would have stayed longer, but I don't like disturbing him when he's watching or listening to Derby. It was a nice afternoon, with laughs and him talking about Skegness amongst things.
Tomorrow, that's straight forward. There are a few things I need to take care of on here, but otherwise I aim to relax a little.
Weekend of housework and the usual homework and replatting my middle childs hair.Β I planned to take down superpies bed and put up his new one but just didnt have enough time.
I did manage to listen to music for the first time in about a month because my headache had gone down enough to be able to. Something i have definetly missed.

Can I just say? I'm glad it's not us.
That's what makes me thankful, a little selfish I know but these records are nothing but distractions. Cheltenham may rack up quite a few poor records during the course of this season. Good luck to them, but it's better them than anyone I care about.
They lost again today, and it was 2-0 so that's 10 league games*Β without a goal now!Β ????Β

I hold Paul Mace in very high regard. He kindly gave me a copy of the Magpies Nest - I should find it and offer @super_ram a chance to read it.
This is something I will look at eventually, as I am sure it will be a good read.
Am I right in thinking it's various in depth interviews, I'm sure he said something like that about how he's spoken to lots of different people at the club about the season. Does look interesting though.
It should be a good book for any notts fan.

Luke Williams is everything you would want from a manager. His openness in interviews is great to watch or listen to too. The details in which he calmly replies make it difficult to think that he may have b**locked the players after the Forest Green Rovers game. You just can't see him being that annoyed. He's what I refer to as the 'Bob Ross' of football. If only he had the hair, I could fully imagine him calmly instructing the players articulately how he wants our tactics to be played out. Whilst calmly saying 'there's no bad accidents, just happy mistakes'.
In all seriousness, there isn't a day I'm not thankful for what he's done.
People are saying that the media team is behind this fan connection, which I disagree with. Luke Williams seems to be the person who truly cares. I just get the feeling he treats everyone he meets the same. Such as his respectful approach after today's game against Colchester United. It was mentioned on the radio that he shook the hands of the officials, smiled and walked off without a fuss.
While there's much for him to learn, we do need to acknowledge that he's already built Rome in one season. Yet, it wasn't a day, but that is still an amazing feat. He's now trying to build the Great Walls of Meadow Lane. Reflect and appreciate just how far we have come, whilst I take my medication.
If there are any supporters who fail to recognise the work of Luke Williams, they canβt be considered genuine fans. Those who think that Reedtz doesnβt invest, or desire the managerβs departure after a loss, as occurred following the defeat to Sutton, arenβt truly committed. The dedication that Luke Williams shows in striving for positive outcomes should not be overlooked. He is truly unique.
He has turned Notts around and helped create a team that play together and as they should... good changable tactics which helps with games and opposition clubs not knowing what to expect.

We all know how the fans feel.I hope.I wish the club well but it doesn't look very good.
Their fans were **obs last season with us, but I wouldn't wish this on them. I would hope that they think more carefully about what chants they sing, especially considering we were one of the best teams last season in the National League. Meanwhile, they were one of the worst, if this is a glimpse as to what their owner may have tolerated then it's like shooting your foot or cutting your nose off to spite your face.
Something their fans may want to suggest, but I do wish them well. Not having their ground and relying on someone else is awful.
Scunthorpe United find themselves in a precarious position, appearing unlikely to secure a victory.
On this coming Saturday Notts travel to Colchester, how many players, managers or coaches etc., have links with both clubs?
Hereβs my starter for 10 - Liam Chilvers played for Colchester between 2004 and 2006 and also for us between 2010 and 2012.
How many more can we find.

The Jackass of smack, Johnny Jackson, played for us and them.
Unfortunately, he was a player I highly rated until I heard him speaking nonsense about our club, city and fans. His actual forced move, which wasn't reflected in the media since he had the habit of putting it across in a way whereby people felt sorry for him - is something I will never forgive. He was ungrateful that we took him in, disrespectful because he felt that League Two was beneath him and all the comments he made about Notts County, Nottingham and our fans. It just made me feel like saying to him, well **** off back to London. I would've been sacked if I did, but even colleagues that aren't football fans, felt shocked by his disrespect.
Jake Kean hasn't been mentioned yet, he played for them too.
Alan White anyone?
Oh wow, this is incredible.
I can imagine my own children at the age of the girl in the picture doing exactly the same, unknowingly acknowledging the risk of the fire or what was going on. Something like this should be put in a book. It's amazing, this is one of the better aspects of social media.Β

The interview was superb, but itβs embarrassing that a non-football related issue had to be raised during the press conference. I hope this marks the end of it because we need to move forward and put it behind us. Luke Williams is known for defending his players; heβs a commendable individual.
its a great interview, its also better that the club answer questions that fans are concerned about than ignoring them. when you avoid questions it leads to rumours and people speculating, when you answer and do well, its the best pr anyone can hope for especially when you are thoughtful and honest. its a brilliant interview.
Luke's interviews are great. I noticed a tweet from David Jackson earlier, and he mentioned how he loves to speak with him. I bet he does have more questions, but it's hard to ask them all when others are waiting and Luke Williams gives such detailed replies.
Over the years, he was always Colchester's stand out player against Notts

Freddie Sears is only 31, right? Thatβs not old for a player of his calibre. Iβm not very familiar with his injury history, but if that can be managed, he should be one of the top players in the National League.
hes still a very good player that has a lot to offer, i think it will be a great signing for dagenham and redbridge.
I said to my dad earlier, I felt surprised that Derby didn't go in for him since they have to rely on free transfers, and he could have been a decent short term option. Dagenham & Redbridge may have made one of the best signings this National League if it pays off.

I donβt recall him, there are many signings that slipped under my radar, but it seems like heβs performing well. Scoring 11 goals as a defender is nothing to sneeze at.
Wasn't he rapid, or supposed to be, but fairly young?
On 29/09/2023 at 07:18, Super_Danny_Allsopp said:Wasn't he rapid, or supposed to be, but fairly young?
Fairly quick, I wouldn't say rapid, but his sprint speed was fast at first.
He wasn't to the level off Lewis Knight in terms of speed, which was extremely rapid.
There were moments he looked quite good, but I don't think defending then was his strongest attribute. He had many moments where I recall the ball just not being controlled well, plus I do get the comment about him defining the laws of gravity.

What a shot! Forget the build-up, that finish is extraordinary.
Ipswich scored a real stunner here, what a goal that is, and the build-up is nice.
When you see calm, and collected passing like this against a decent team you have to feel impressed. Yet when it leads to a goal like this, I think I may just need jaw surgery because I can't get mine back up from off the floor.
I never knew this.
Like me, he Β grew up in Notts in the 70βs and 80βs and didnβt jump on Cloughβs bandwagon? I respect that, even if he was at the hated High School when I was at the slightly less hated Minster.

I wouldnβt say well-liked. A lot of Labour supporters donβt trust him because he was a minister in the Tory/Lib Dem coalition. The Tories hate him because the Lib Dems are nicking a lot of what you might call the one nation, pro Europe, centre right voters (the sort who liked Ken Clarke more than Boris Johnson). Personally, Iβm not a Lib Dem, but Iβve voted for them tactically (and unsuccessfully) a few times. I think heβs basically decent and is making a good job of one of the hardest jobs around. But their last leader was a disaster, so itβs a low bar.
On 29/09/2023 at 12:40, Fan of Big Tone said:Yes but some are more of a shambles than others, I think itβs a shame when people say they arenβt interested in politics, these people have the power to change our lives and we have the chance to give them that power at election time.
I consistently cast my vote, but it seems that people often make significant errors when they do, resulting in challenging times. Leading a country is an arduous task, and the Conservative Party (Tories) seems to appeal to both affluent and misguided individuals as their supporters. England requires a leader endowed with strength of character, benevolence, and unwavering determination. Unfortunately, none of the present party leaders possess these qualities. In my opinion, Ed Davey is utterly untrustworthy, incapable of even safeguarding an empty pint glass, let alone guiding our nation.
I'm not bothered, I don't really care either. Ken Clarke attends matches for both Notts and Forest regularly.Β
There's been better Lib Dem leaders too.
Whilst I sound more like someone much older, I just don't get the fuss about something like this. Its great others find it interesting, and I respect the discussion within this but for me, I quickly want to forget about it.

Mine is Notts County 3 Spurs 0.
It was a League Cup third round tie in October 1994. Notts faced the mighty Spurs managed by World Cup winner Ossie Ardiles at Meadow Lane, with the likes of Juergen Klinsmann, Sol Campbell and Teddy Sheringham in their team Notts were given little chance.
However with goals from Gary McSwegan (2) and Tony Agana Notts marched on to the fourth round and next morning Ossie Ardiles was sacked. I remember the second goal after McSwegan scored the players did a celebratory βKlinsmann diveβ rubbing salt in the wound. Spurs had a man sent off but Notts were already 2-0 up by then.
The teams on that night were as follows:
Notts: Reece; Mills, Yates, Johnson (Murphy, 65), R Walker; Turner; Devlin, Butler, Legg; Agana, McSwegan (Matthews, 80). Substitutes not used: Cherry (gk).
Tottenham: Thorstvedt; Austin, Campbell, Calderwood (Hazard, 45), Edinburgh; Popescu; Barmby, Dozzell, Dumitrescu; Sheringham, Klinsmann.
Whats your most memorable match?

Some standouts from the last few years:
Lincoln City 3 Notts County 5, January 1998. Notts fans making up nearly half the crowd. We raced to a 3-0 half-time lead, Lincoln mounted an unlikely revival after a Darren Ward miskick early in the second half and equalised, only for us to retake the lead minutes later. The day we looked nailed on for promotion.
Notts County 2 Bury 2, May 2006. Our first real scrape with the Conference and such a sickening day. Results elsewhere kept us up.
Notts Florist 3 Notts County 3, League Cup, 2011. In keeping with what was going on around the country at the time, this one was a riot. Lee Hughes looked to have won the derby for us in extra time, before Wes Morgan took a punt in the dying moments and we fluffed the penalty shoot out.

Notts 1 Wycombe 0 (2008)
It was our last home game of the season and last but one game of the season. Iβm 99% sure a win would keep us up, not a great game but Butcher scoring meant we did! We actually had a relatively large crowd for the time.

Good luck with the fundraising. It is an essential endeavour, and I hope that many Notts fans will support PON in covering the siteβs fees. I will certainly look into it.
I wholeheartedly wish for the successful acquisition of donations that will ensure the site continues to thrive. I am committed to supporting this cause and I would urge any other fans who come across this message to do the same. PON is not just a website, itβs a robust representation and a preserver of the clubβs history. Itβs a cause that is truly worth supporting.
Just wanted to express that Iβm really liking the site so far, and I understand why itβs crucial to contribute towards the siteβs costs. Many sites are facing difficulties nowadays, and I hope Notts supporters who are able to will support this. Iβll be sure to contribute occasionally, even if itβs just a small amount.

Dan Crowleyβs performance on the pitch is nothing short of seamless. He is the kind of player who effortlessly displays his prowess without any need for ostentation. He is a footballer of exceptional quality, who maintains a neat and tidy presence on the field, always putting in the hard yards for his team.
This season, he has proven to be an unparalleled addition to our squad, standing head and shoulders above all other signings. This is not to undermine the contributions of Jodi Jones, David McGoldrick or any other team members. However, Crowley has managed to fill the significant gap left by Ruben Rodriguesβ departure to Oxford United with aplomb.
His arrival has not only bolstered our midfield but also added a new dimension to our game. His vision, technical skills, and work ethic have been instrumental in enhancing our team dynamics. In essence, Dan Crowley has emerged as an indispensable asset to our team this season.
Dan Crowley has been a unique addition to Notts. He continues to improve and plays a more significant role in the team. He certainly scores goals, but his ability to assist his teammates is unparalleled. Heβs an exciting talent that reminds me of Alan Judge.
Dan Crowley seems like the perfect addition to Notts. He fits our system well and has developed in his role, but heβs also a versatile player who can adapt if needed. This gives Luke Williams a lot of flexibility. While it seems best to let him excel in a role heβs mastering, we can mix things up if necessary, and I trust him to perform any role commendably.

What some individuals fail to recognise is that what appears simple isnβt always so. A beautifully executed pass that splits the opposition and accelerates just at the right moment as it crosses the halfway line can be deceiving. Itβs likely a bit too fast to keep up with!
This is a wonderful goal, nicely worked! Iβm very impressed having seen this.
The team goal was well constructed and itβs impressive that each player had a touch of the ball leading to it.
I'm probably not the only Notts fan who has a lot of love for Luton. The team we took down with us on our last day in the top flight, thanks to a goal from Rob Matthews, who went on to play for them when he left Notts. Β Oh, what a night that was, getting back to London and meeting up with Coventry fans at the Head of Steam in Euston... I still don't know how I got back home.
They too went down to non-league and had never returned to the top flight until this season.
They've not exactly had the most excellent start to the season... This is a good read.

As for Luton Town, Iβm not remotely concerned. It was intriguing to watch them ascend each season and earn promotion, but thatβs where my interest ends.
It was heartening to see such an underdog achieve something truly remarkable. While I donβt actively follow their results and believe they will eventually be relegated, I hope they use this experience to build up their club. Despite being a London club, they are much smaller than one might expect.
I wish them success, but their journey is an arduous one, and I struggle to envision them overcoming it. Forest invested a significant amount of money to avoid relegation, a luxury that Luton cannot afford. By January, other clubs facing relegation may bolster their squads with reinforcements. It is truly remarkable what they have accomplished thus far.

The thing is Horseman is trying to protect his job.Β They went through 3 managers before him since this time last year.Β They were relegated and now find themselves at the foot of the table, so he must be feeling the pressure.Β I think that interview was more about asking the chairman for a bit more time as it was a genuine analysis of the game.
Their manager will undoubtedly be feeling the pressure. I find @Chrisβs comments interesting, but I donβt usually pay much attention to the opposition as they can often resemble politicians, moulded by their own agendas and beliefs rather than being honest and humble. Notts played very well, even though I felt like Forest Green could go on and cause an upset. I think that second goal for them woke Notts up, thankfully we turned our performance back on. Finishing the game 4-3 is just a reminder that some teams wonβt just lay down because we are leading a game.

@B&Wstripes Adam now plays for Crawley Town
Adam Campbell has always been a player Iβve admired. Despite often being played out of position, he never ceased to battle for his spot on the team. Itβs heartening to hear that heβs faring well.
I really liked Adam Campbell, but there was a point where he gave up for us and that was because he knew about his release. I vividly recall the topic I had written about. highlighting his lack of togetherness.
I'm glad he's still doing well, I heard it mentioned on the radio by David Jackson.
