  • The performance wasn't bad, but the defending and Aidan Stone's passing were the problems. I think Luke Williams should tell the players not to always try to play the ball out from the back. I can see when it is useful and effective, but when a team presses and tries to win the ball, it can lead to problems. Look at the playoff final against Chesterfield. They came out trying to score early and it caused us problems. I don't know why we can't identify these problems before they become a problem, like we saw against Colchester United.

@menzinhoΒ That's a valid point, I had forgotten about Baj. He seemed to be improving in his position, and while I have great admiration for Jim O'Brien, he doesn't possess the same playing style as them. I'm not implying that Jim isn't deserving of a starting position, but there is a suitable time and place for it. In my opinion, Colchester wasn't that team.

These matches kick off at 3pm on Saturday, let's be having you! And remember your joker!

Rochdale v Southend United

If you aren’t a season ticket holder and want a ticket for the Mansfield game I’d grab one now they are going fast. I got two online for me and grandsonΒ @George LΒ and seats were disappearing as I looked online.

  • @Chris I’m not keen on going to matches with large crowds either but I guess the fact that we are getting large crowds is good for the club so we shouldn’t complain.

An executive box is an expensive way to watch a match and the atmosphere isn’t the same. I did sit near the vice presidents seats (I think that’s what they’re called) and I must admit I envied then their spacious padded seats with an excellent view as I was squashed between two very large gentlemen but the cost of buying one of those for a season is way more than I’d want to spend.

It’s the weekend again, I’m sure it’s eagerly awaited for all you workers or students, I know I always looked forward to it when I worked.

What plans have you all got? Some will no doubt be travelling to see the Super Notts so safe travels and bring back the points.

Tonight being Friday I will be enjoying Mrs. T’s famous curry, this time it’s Lamb and Spinach and I’ll wash it down with my first pint of the week. Tonight we are watching a film on Prime called The Lost Flowers of Alex Hart, which has been recommended to us.

Tomorrow it’s Park Run day, then we are visiting a kitchen shop to finalise the plans for our revamped kitchen, in the afternoon I’ll be glued to Radio Nottingham.

Whats everyone else up to?

i am off to colchester tomorrow, i am picking up @CliftonMagpieΒ and then @TheSkipper.Β

i have not been to colchester before so i hope its a straight forward drive but i am looking forward to it, having been to all the games so far. i feel it gives me a better understanding of how notts are doing and its impressive how each games atmosphere makes it all the more enjoyable.

sunday i am staying at home, my mum and aunt are going out for the day. so, i will find things around the house to do.

I may pop round my dads again, I need to weigh myself, but I am starting to lose weight which is nice.

I have a health person advising me, which most of it is simple, but it does help. So, I will have to spend some time reviewing my food diary and to ensure I get some exercise in at home. The walk would be a useful thing too, as going and coming back will add up.

Before my little ramble, I mentioned going to my dad. I spent the time with him from 1 until kick off. I would have stayed longer, but I don't like disturbing him when he's watching or listening to Derby. It was a nice afternoon, with laughs and him talking about Skegness amongst things.

Tomorrow, that's straight forward. There are a few things I need to take care of on here, but otherwise I aim to relax a little.

Weekend of housework and the usual homework and replatting my middle childs hair.Β  I planned to take down superpies bed and put up his new one but just didnt have enough time.

I did manage to listen to music for the first time in about a month because my headache had gone down enough to be able to. Something i have definetly missed.

An out of nowhere appointment, but looks like a masterstroke from the Bros Reedtz

  • Luke Williams is everything you would want from a manager. His openness in interviews is great to watch or listen to too. The details in which he calmly replies make it difficult to think that he may have b**locked the players after the Forest Green Rovers game. You just can't see him being that annoyed. He's what I refer to as the 'Bob Ross' of football. If only he had the hair, I could fully imagine him calmly instructing the players articulately how he wants our tactics to be played out. Whilst calmly saying 'there's no bad accidents, just happy mistakes'.

In all seriousness, there isn't a day I'm not thankful for what he's done.

People are saying that the media team is behind this fan connection, which I disagree with. Luke Williams seems to be the person who truly cares. I just get the feeling he treats everyone he meets the same. Such as his respectful approach after today's game against Colchester United. It was mentioned on the radio that he shook the hands of the officials, smiled and walked off without a fuss.

While there's much for him to learn, we do need to acknowledge that he's already built Rome in one season. Yet, it wasn't a day, but that is still an amazing feat. He's now trying to build the Great Walls of Meadow Lane. Reflect and appreciate just how far we have come, whilst I take my medication.

If there are any supporters who fail to recognise the work of Luke Williams, they can’t be considered genuine fans. Those who think that Reedtz doesn’t invest, or desire the manager’s departure after a loss, as occurred following the defeat to Sutton, aren’t truly committed. The dedication that Luke Williams shows in striving for positive outcomes should not be overlooked. He is truly unique.

He has turned Notts around and helped create a team that play together and as they should... good changable tactics which helps with games and opposition clubs not knowing what to expect.

On this coming Saturday Notts travel to Colchester, how many players, managers or coaches etc., have links with both clubs?

Here’s my starter for 10 - Liam Chilvers played for Colchester between 2004 and 2006 and also for us between 2010 and 2012.

How many more can we find.

    Oh wow, this is incredible.

I can imagine my own children at the age of the girl in the picture doing exactly the same, unknowingly acknowledging the risk of the fire or what was going on. Something like this should be put in a book. It's amazing, this is one of the better aspects of social media.Β

  • The interview was superb, but it’s embarrassing that a non-football related issue had to be raised during the press conference. I hope this marks the end of it because we need to move forward and put it behind us. Luke Williams is known for defending his players; he’s a commendable individual.

its a great interview, its also better that the club answer questions that fans are concerned about than ignoring them. when you avoid questions it leads to rumours and people speculating, when you answer and do well, its the best pr anyone can hope for especially when you are thoughtful and honest. its a brilliant interview.

Over the years, he was always Colchester's stand out player against Notts

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mawouna_Amevor

Now at FC Eindhoven, playing centre back

I never knew this.

Like me, he Β grew up in Notts in the 70’s and 80’s and didn’t jump on Clough’s bandwagon? I respect that, even if he was at the hated High School when I was at the slightly less hated Minster.

I’m not very familiar with UK politics these days, so I’m not aware of who Ed Davey is. Is he well-liked? I hope he’s not the typical self-serving politician.

I wouldn’t say well-liked. A lot of Labour supporters don’t trust him because he was a minister in the Tory/Lib Dem coalition. The Tories hate him because the Lib Dems are nicking a lot of what you might call the one nation, pro Europe, centre right voters (the sort who liked Ken Clarke more than Boris Johnson). Personally, I’m not a Lib Dem, but I’ve voted for them tactically (and unsuccessfully) a few times. I think he’s basically decent and is making a good job of one of the hardest jobs around. But their last leader was a disaster, so it’s a low bar.

Yes but some are more of a shambles than others, I think it’s a shame when people say they aren’t interested in politics, these people have the power to change our lives and we have the chance to give them that power at election time.

I consistently cast my vote, but it seems that people often make significant errors when they do, resulting in challenging times. Leading a country is an arduous task, and the Conservative Party (Tories) seems to appeal to both affluent and misguided individuals as their supporters. England requires a leader endowed with strength of character, benevolence, and unwavering determination. Unfortunately, none of the present party leaders possess these qualities. In my opinion, Ed Davey is utterly untrustworthy, incapable of even safeguarding an empty pint glass, let alone guiding our nation.

I'm not bothered, I don't really care either. Ken Clarke attends matches for both Notts and Forest regularly.Β

There's been better Lib Dem leaders too.

Whilst I sound more like someone much older, I just don't get the fuss about something like this. Its great others find it interesting, and I respect the discussion within this but for me, I quickly want to forget about it.

Hello mate. How can I delete all me notifications at once? I signed in today and I had lots of them.

Mine is Notts County 3 Spurs 0.

It was a League Cup third round tie in October 1994. Notts faced the mighty Spurs managed by World Cup winner Ossie Ardiles at Meadow Lane, with the likes of Juergen Klinsmann, Sol Campbell and Teddy Sheringham in their team Notts were given little chance.

However with goals from Gary McSwegan (2) and Tony Agana Notts marched on to the fourth round and next morning Ossie Ardiles was sacked. I remember the second goal after McSwegan scored the players did a celebratory β€œKlinsmann dive” rubbing salt in the wound. Spurs had a man sent off but Notts were already 2-0 up by then.

The teams on that night were as follows:

Notts: Reece; Mills, Yates, Johnson (Murphy, 65), R Walker; Turner; Devlin, Butler, Legg; Agana, McSwegan (Matthews, 80). Substitutes not used: Cherry (gk).

Tottenham: Thorstvedt; Austin, Campbell, Calderwood (Hazard, 45), Edinburgh; Popescu; Barmby, Dozzell, Dumitrescu; Sheringham, Klinsmann.

Whats your most memorable match?

You know, at present, the most unforgettable match for me is our playoff final against Colchester United

Funny, I seem to have forgotten that one already :D

Some standouts from the last few years:

Lincoln City 3 Notts County 5, January 1998. Notts fans making up nearly half the crowd. We raced to a 3-0 half-time lead, Lincoln mounted an unlikely revival after a Darren Ward miskick early in the second half and equalised, only for us to retake the lead minutes later. The day we looked nailed on for promotion.

Notts County 2 Bury 2, May 2006. Our first real scrape with the Conference and such a sickening day. Results elsewhere kept us up.

Notts Florist 3 Notts County 3, League Cup, 2011. In keeping with what was going on around the country at the time, this one was a riot. Lee Hughes looked to have won the derby for us in extra time, before Wes Morgan took a punt in the dying moments and we fluffed the penalty shoot out.

I don’t go to many away matches but I was at that one, what a match that was.

    Notts 1 Wycombe 0 (2008)

It was our last home game of the season and last but one game of the season. I’m 99% sure a win would keep us up, not a great game but Butcher scoring meant we did! We actually had a relatively large crowd for the time.

    Notts 1 Man City 1 (2011)

I’ve just looked back and the City team is stronger than I remember it and we were so close to actually winning it too! Still an amazing memory for me. Who’d have thought with a performance like that we’d go on and lose 9 games in a row later that same season…

  • I wholeheartedly wish for the successful acquisition of donations that will ensure the site continues to thrive. I am committed to supporting this cause and I would urge any other fans who come across this message to do the same. PON is not just a website, it’s a robust representation and a preserver of the club’s history. It’s a cause that is truly worth supporting.

Just wanted to express that I’m really liking the site so far, and I understand why it’s crucial to contribute towards the site’s costs. Many sites are facing difficulties nowadays, and I hope Notts supporters who are able to will support this. I’ll be sure to contribute occasionally, even if it’s just a small amount.

  • Dan Crowley’s performance on the pitch is nothing short of seamless. He is the kind of player who effortlessly displays his prowess without any need for ostentation. He is a footballer of exceptional quality, who maintains a neat and tidy presence on the field, always putting in the hard yards for his team.

This season, he has proven to be an unparalleled addition to our squad, standing head and shoulders above all other signings. This is not to undermine the contributions of Jodi Jones, David McGoldrick or any other team members. However, Crowley has managed to fill the significant gap left by Ruben Rodrigues’ departure to Oxford United with aplomb.

His arrival has not only bolstered our midfield but also added a new dimension to our game. His vision, technical skills, and work ethic have been instrumental in enhancing our team dynamics. In essence, Dan Crowley has emerged as an indispensable asset to our team this season.

Dan Crowley has been a unique addition to Notts. He continues to improve and plays a more significant role in the team. He certainly scores goals, but his ability to assist his teammates is unparalleled. He’s an exciting talent that reminds me of Alan Judge.

Dan Crowley seems like the perfect addition to Notts. He fits our system well and has developed in his role, but he’s also a versatile player who can adapt if needed. This gives Luke Williams a lot of flexibility. While it seems best to let him excel in a role he’s mastering, we can mix things up if necessary, and I trust him to perform any role commendably.

I'm probably not the only Notts fan who has a lot of love for Luton. The team we took down with us on our last day in the top flight, thanks to a goal from Rob Matthews, who went on to play for them when he left Notts. Β Oh, what a night that was, getting back to London and meeting up with Coventry fans at the Head of Steam in Euston... I still don't know how I got back home.
They too went down to non-league and had never returned to the top flight until this season.
They've not exactly had the most excellent start to the season... This is a good read.

  • It was heartening to see such an underdog achieve something truly remarkable. While I don’t actively follow their results and believe they will eventually be relegated, I hope they use this experience to build up their club. Despite being a London club, they are much smaller than one might expect.

I wish them success, but their journey is an arduous one, and I struggle to envision them overcoming it. Forest invested a significant amount of money to avoid relegation, a luxury that Luton cannot afford. By January, other clubs facing relegation may bolster their squads with reinforcements. It is truly remarkable what they have accomplished thus far.

  • The thing is Horseman is trying to protect his job.Β  They went through 3 managers before him since this time last year.Β  They were relegated and now find themselves at the foot of the table, so he must be feeling the pressure.Β  I think that interview was more about asking the chairman for a bit more time as it was a genuine analysis of the game.

Their manager will undoubtedly be feeling the pressure. I find @Chris’s comments interesting, but I don’t usually pay much attention to the opposition as they can often resemble politicians, moulded by their own agendas and beliefs rather than being honest and humble. Notts played very well, even though I felt like Forest Green could go on and cause an upset. I think that second goal for them woke Notts up, thankfully we turned our performance back on. Finishing the game 4-3 is just a reminder that some teams won’t just lay down because we are leading a game.
