  1. I’ve just been watching Pointless from a few days ago and one of the contestants called Nev is a Notts County fan his partner in the quiz is a Forest fan.

It’d be great if Nev was a PoN member.

I know you’re all dying to know how Nev and his Forest mate got on in the latest episode of Pointless.

Well sadly they failed in the second round mainly due to Nev’s Forest supporting mate who gave answers with high points meaning Nev had to get a low points answer to get through, he managed it for the first round but not the second.

This leaves them with one more appearance to try and win the trophy and the prize pot.

Come on Nev you can do it, ditch the Forest supporter.

I think it is a good squad.

The team will most likely be  built around Bellingham with the standout players being Foden, Walker, Rice, Saka, Palmer,  Kane & Stones

Disappointing not to see Jack Grealish in the squad.

I think we are good enough to get to the Semis, but I always worry about Southgate's negativity when it gets to the latter stages of a competition.

Must admit I was surprised by the omission of Notts Old Boy Grealish.  Thought he had a decent Cameo against Bosnia, That assist he did was amazing.  I mean why play the Guy if you're not going to pick him? Even if he didn't Start a match he could have certainly play the part of a Super Sub, how many times have you seen a player come off the bench and have a match winning effect on a Game? Mind you I think he's in Pep's Bad Books because he hasn't been playing for City in their Big Games. And if I'm Honest it wouldn't really surprise me to see him leave the Etihad.

On #Notts, replayed videos on stage of Play Off finals and talked a bit about them.

Video of Council House reception too... see what we missed on our recent promotion

Talked of Scarborough pre season trip... Drapes and Tommy complaining that despite being picked for England U21, they were given the room with bunk beds

Also video shown of FA Cup QF at White Hart Lane. It contained crystal clear view of Gazza's elbow on Harding. Warnock said he was ****ing annoyed, it was a straight red but then talked about refs seemingly protecting the big clubs

On first meeting Pavis, they knew on both sides, they wanted each other... Pavis would come along on scouting trips... like watching Dean Thomas at Northampton.

On other clubs, I hadn't realised Warnock was at Burton Albion with the likes of F*rest old boys Ian Storey Moore, Sammy Chapman, Paul Winfield?

Derbyshire Telegraph had rung up Warnock for comments on his release from Chesterfield as a player. The unfortunate part, was that Chesterfield hadnt yet told him!

What was obvious, he relied on good coaches, never seemed to take a coaching session... he would wander around and then just pull players aside to tell them...what you have just done in training, do that on Saturday! Warnock admitted he was all about man management.

In audience were Ben Robinson, now former owner of Burton Albion. Ian Storey Moore too.

Unfortunately, Notts Outlaws have fallen to their third successive defeat this term, this time against Worcestershire Rapids.

Notts could only muster 134 for 7 in their 20 overs & lost by 20 runs.

A big effort is needed in the next two matches at the weekend if Notts are going to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages, because they are falling behind the leading teams in this league.

I have no insight as to whether he's highly rated or not but I hope he can help to improve our keepers.

This is interesting at the end though; “We’re very happy with the backroom staff we have in place and we’re all really looking forward to pre-season.” And then it gives a full run down of the non-playing staff.

Ian Hutton hasn't been replaced, does that mean no strength and conditioning coach (fancy term for fitness coach I believe) for next season?

    3. Chris

      Chris

I think most Notts fans won't know much about Steve Collis, it seems that Stuart Maynard wanted at the club and perhaps at the cost of Tom Weal. I have found a lot of comments since Weal's departure to be very disrespectful.

However, I wish Collis well with his role and hope that we do see improvements within the keeping department.

When I first glanced  at this , I failed to see the word Coach. I need some New Glasses.

  7. The Term Manager seems to be slowly being eradicated from Football, to be replaced with the unflattering position name of Head Coach, and along with it the power or should that be a bigger say in team affaires, that a manager had. Interestingly the New New Man at Liverpool Arne Slot is the Head Coach, unlike his predecessor Jurgen Klopp who had the title of Manager.

With the New name it also seems that a Head Coach is just that a Coach and it appears that unlike a Manager a Coach  does Not have as much influence on things within the Club he works for. It comes across that a Head Coach doesn't have as much say in the signing of players, sure he can put forward his ideas and players he'd like in his team, but the last word on Transfers so it seems is down to the Recruitment team. Case in point Macca's signing before Luke Williams was revealed as the New Notts Head Coach. And what say does Stuart Maynard have regarding the signing of New Players?

There will be Fans that will state that SM has a say in New Players coming to the Club, but does he really? After all can you see our Head Coach going into Richard Montague and saying Richard this new player you've got an eye on signing, I don't think he's the kind of guy who'll fit into the Notts way of playing. Do you think the reply would be Ok Stuart you're the Boss we'll look at somebody else. Nope, it would be well we've looked at his Data and We think he'll be the perfect fit. Answering my own question Does Stuart Maynard have a say in player transfer's ? Yes perhaps a small amount, but not the type of influence the likes of Jimmy Sirrel, Big Sam and Neil Warnock had when they were Manager down the Lane. Three Managers who brought Success to the Magpies.

It would also seem that any New Coach going to a Club, who has a Playing Model in Place the New Coach has to follow that Model to the letter and Not add his own flair or ideas. It was stated that Roberto de Zerbi at Brighton left because Club wouldn't let him change the way they play, Albion finished 6th the season before last and 10th this. Zerbi saw where the team were failing but instead of allowing him to change things around he left by Mutual Consent. Yeah Right. Was it the same for Poch at Chelsea? He made changes at Chelsea towards the end of last season and things got better, But he moved away from the Chelsea Model, now he to is Out Of A Job. Manager or Head Coach? I know which I prefer.

      Spot on @liampie.

I didn't see anything in Tobi during his first season; his injury may have impacted that, and I do agree that he looked better last season. Yet, he looks more like a winger than he does a wing back. He provides no contribution in defence. I do think he does have the ability to put in a good cross and has a nice turn of speed, yet his control, passing, position play are majorly lacking.

Good luck to him at Rochdale, I hope he can kick on with his career.

When the smaller clubs in the Premier League are forced to sell their best players to remain on the right side of the FFP rules, they shouldn't sell to the top six PL clubs, they should sell to teams either in Europe or Worldwide.

If the top six are starved of the best talent, the PL would slowly become more equal once again.

On the 'Two Pints Podcast with Will Mellor and Ralf Little', they mentioned the 115 charges hanging over Manchester City and I feel like they had it bang on the money. Ralf Little said that they won't ever be punished for these charges to which Will Mellor responded that it would be unfair for City to go unpunished while Everton and Forest have both faced punishment for breaching the rules.

I'm in agreement with both points made and I think the only time City will finally be found guilty of their charges is when they introduce the luxury tax ruling meaning that all they'll have to do is a pay a fine and it'll be done rather than seeing them face a points deduction which would really affect them. In short, punishing the lower teams and allowing the elite to stay at the top.

The thing that annoys me about these situations is the fact that they are so blatantly allowing the elite to run the show and get away with anything and everything and they aren't even hiding the "corruption" anymore.

What some pundits are saying on social media, is that if City win this Court action, it will have big implications for the PL, because it will allow the rich clubs like City & United to become even richer, & the competitiveness of the rest of the PL clubs would be dealt another big blow.

Lets be honest. Notts was just a stepping stone for Ruben, a player of his calibre wasn't going to be left in the Footballing basement of the National League or League 2 . The biggest Regret for the Owners must have been he went on a Free Transfer. I think he was offered a new contract before Transfer Window of 2022/2023 and he refused to sign it. That being the case he should have been Transfer Listed that January and Notts would have benefitted financially from his Sale.

    3. Robbie

      Robbie

@Wheelbarrow repair man it's a pity that he didn't sign a new contract but I think Notts were right to keep him up to the end of his contract.

It paid dividends when he was in the right place at the right time to score our equaliser in the playoff final, that gave us the chance to win on penalties,  which we did.

I think Notts got their monies worth out of him, but it is a lesson for Notts for the future which I believe they have learnt from.

Macaulay was given a long contract last summer, so that this time, Notts can cash in if he goes. Now Notts need to get Jodi to sign a nice long contract too.

I agree with some of your points, however it always struck me that Ruben didn't really want to be at Notts,  he only wanted to use the Club as a window so he could show off his Footballing Skills and hope another club higher up the Footballing Pyramid would come in for him. As I understand it he was ready to leave the Lane before Ian Burchanell  left and it was  Luke Williams who convinced him to stay. And you really don't want a player who's all Me Me Me in the dressing room. Football after all is a Team Game.

About the Champions League, I think UEFA have managed to turn their premier competition into a version of the UEFA Cup, and the next changes will make it even more bloated. It's all about guaranteeing that the biggest clubs don't miss out and get as many games as possible.

      I totally agree on this..

I don't know why they didn't keep the UEFA Cup, the Cup Winners Cup & European Cup in their original format. Lots of money would still have been generated.

But of course UEFA want to ward off more talk of a Super League breakaway.

That's why they have increased the number of clubs in the Champions League.

You're so right Mate, 36 teams in the Champions League, will devalue the competition in fact really they'll have to rename it. How about the European Super League? That's what UEFA is trying to do, bring in the Super League via the Back Door. As you've stated before UEFA aren't going to give up this money spinning idea , the Super League will come about one way or another and the 36 team Champions League is just another attempt to get it up and running.

And what will happen? We'll get the moaning and groaning from the Premiership, The season's to long our players are tired playing all these extra games it means more chance of injuries to our players.  And of course the FA with bend over backwards to accommodate the whining winging Premier League Prima Donna's and the rest of the English game will suffer.

Until the 72 clubs of the EFL have effective equal voting rights with the 20 in the PL league, nothing will change regarding the steady unstoppable path to an eventual Euro Super League.

There has even been talk about the Championship morphing into a PL 2 league, that would split the football league power base even more firmly into the FA Premier League's corner.

  14. Well this is interesting. An Article appeared on the BBC Football Website regarding Snus and typically of the BBC they didn't allow Fans a HYS section on it. So here in a nut shell is the article.

Snus is a tobacco substance which is used by players (in both the Male and Female) game) it comes in small packets like Tea Bags, which a player places it under the tongue and nicotine is slowly released into the Blood Stream, according to players it increases Mental Readiness and helps them relax and manage stress. The thing is it's addictive, it increase the risk of Oesophagus and Pancreatic Cancer and an increase in Heart Disease and mouth lesions.

Now the Best Bit. Snus is ILLEGAL to be Sold  in the UK, But NOT Against the Law. Well which is it? Surely if it's Illegal in the UK It Should Be Against The Law. Players have stated they purchase Snus from certain shops while others buy it on line. Why aren't these shops closed down? Why aren't these on line outlets also shut down? Truly the mind Boggles. Over 50% of players using this  drug (because that's what it is) want to Quit and what do the  Higher Ups in the FA do? The Usual ignore it and hope it goes away. It is the opinion of this writer, that it should be Banned and all players should be helped to kick the habit by the Footballing Authorities.

I would hope  any Notts Players who have become addicted to Snus would approach the Club and ask for help, in fact hopefully any Notts player with a problem with addiction, be it Snus (or any other Drug) Gambling or Alcohol will be helped, which I am sure they would. I would like to hear other Magpie Fans view on the Subject.

In the Sky news article @Wheelbarrow repair man a football club coach described one single SNUS pouch ss equivalent to smoking 4 cigarettes at once.

In the sky article it mentions that players taking it have ignored club bans, so it looks like individual clubs have tried to ban it's use but without success.

If it is not illegal to take, I suppose it will be hard to ban, but surely they could ban it's use in the confines of the workplace, just like cigarettes are.

And what about the junior section of clubs. What are the clubs doing to prevent it's use by academy and junior players?

It appears by all accounts that SNUS usage is going to be a growing problem in football.

    3. Wheelbarrow repair man

      Wheelbarrow repair man

      @Robbie

I've read the Sky report and it's says more or less what the BBC article said. It would appear that Snus should be Banned outright by the FA and any player should run the risk of also being Banned for using it. 50% players using it want to stop so an outright Ban can only be the way Forward, you'd think wouldn't you? Those players affected should then be given all the necessary  Help in combating their Addiction.

    4. Robbie

      Robbie

      Agree @Wheelbarrow repair man

Snus should be banned for a variety of reasons.

      1. To protect junior players full stop.

      2. To protect senior players from the harmful & long term effects.

      3. To stop the use of Cnus from spreading throughout sport in general

      4. To stop the use spreading to the general population any more than it has.

So I believe it should be banned full stop by the government, or at the very least, to ban all sports persons from using it.
