Wolves step-up interest in Celtic's Callum McGregor as Notts County hope for loan deal.

Notts County's hopes of keeping Callum McGregor at Meadow Lane took a further blow today after Wolves stepped-up their interest in the Celtic midfielder.

The Post understands Kenny Jackett is preparing a £750,000 swoop for the Magpies' top scorer who has bagged 12 goals while on loan from the Hoops.

It is believed Celtic were originally keen on a straight swap deal with Wolves for Scottish international Leigh Griffiths which the League One side were cool on.

They are now said to be readying a straight cash bid for the 20-year-old who has become a hot property during the transfer window.

I'm not happy about this, although I have had time to digest the news. It's very likely that McGregor won't be coming back to us, so I really hope someone else places a big and temps him a way from a rival League One team.

Thoughts?

I'm going to take it with a pinch of salt, especially with the Post being printed and reported in Brum.

Untill he signs on with someone else, i will keep my hopes up and be optimistic, keeping in the back of my mind, he might not come back

Come on Celtic, you know it make sense

I'm resigned to the fact that he won't be coming back now, thanks for the memories Callum, it was great while it lasted.

There's a slim chance that he may sign back on loan for us.

However, if Wolves are happy to part with 750k - I could easily see a team like Birmingham City trying to out bid them (even with their finance trouble). Leeds might be tempted but Celtic surely must see that if he scores 16+ in one season, it would be worth giving him a first team chance with themselves? If he does well, they would attract bigger bids and if he doesn't. I am sure a Championship club would bid more than 1m, perhaps they don't want to gamble?

@tonyhateley Chin up, I am sure Derry knows a player who could do a similar job for us.

worst fear really, grealish is supposed to be coming back to us after playing in aston villa youth cup game but i do not see it myself.

i hope celtic hold out for a bigger bid and then change their mind! it would be some comfort for us, if nobody manages to snap him up.

McGregor could do so much better than moving to Wolves permanently to be fair at this stage in his career. Celtic should keep him, he could do a job for them in a couple of years' time surely.

Seems to be developing into an auction.

I hope we can keep him. But hopefullu if someone else signs him he doesn't end up as a bench warmer, and used to the best of his abilities

I hope callum doesn't leave us, I really like him. I hope he does sign a new koan deal, wolves are dirty.

i hope he resigns for us but this is what happens if u leave it to the last minute to start trying 2 renew someones loan maybe people should of got there act together sooner always said if we didnt keep him we would struggle and now it looks like we will.

You have ruined by @notts-joe, 750k? That is Notts truly beaten.

Mind, I think that the lad needs to be given a shot with Celtic. Neil Lennon should be careful which he choices, as he will go far.

Blame Wolves and Celtic, I'm just trying to stimulate conversation here! :P

I still don't think Wolves would be a good move for him.

I would hope we can resign him but we will all just have to wait and see. Some rumours don't amount to much so we may get him or we may not.

Hi, I'm back! got locked out of my account but the guys sorted it for me. Thanks

I think on this subject that as soon as the word "money" is involved notts are sure to miss out. So I hope Shaun is planning his team without these two talented youngsters. Also I think freeman has been as important as these guys he is the new finnan :)

aww, congrats! welcome to the world little magpie :)

@Drivingmenotts Congrats on the new arrival buddy!

Kenny's playing this down, well so the NEP say. I think they'll be aware that 750k is a light offer for such a young player, so perhaps he thinks others will step up if he declares his interest?

Might be chance yet, though don't get your hopes up.

Many congratulations @Drivingmenotts,make the most of your time with the newpie -they don't stay babies long.:hug:

i really hope this is not true even if at the end of the season he returns to celtic and it turns out there is no place for him i hope he comes to us on a transfer  and not wolves he has given us that sharpness in midfeild we need. i know we prob want be able to afford him which is not good.

I think the hope that he comes to Notts on a permanent basis is a rather forlorn one, we can't afford him and I think he'd want to go to a bigger club. Let's just be thankful he spent some time showcasing his skills for us. He is the best player we've had for a while.

Yeah, I can't see him becoming a full time magpie.

There's hopes in the future that he may return but the lads go talent, he will no doubt be one who will strive for better things. I just hope we can get a level foot back on how we're, if we can get the most out of Spencer and Murray, perhaps throwing in an experienced striker who knows how to score - He could mentor them but McGregor is destined for an higher stage than us.

At least much quicker! ;)
