Notts Head Coach Stuart Maynard has confirmed that Jevani Brown & Josh Martin will be leaving the club

“Brown has gone back to Bristol Rovers, & Josh Martin, we won’t be renewing his deal, but I thank them for all of their hard work & when they were with us they were excellent”

Probably the right decision. Both had their moments and both had a couple of games that demonstrated their ability, but it ultimately wasn't enough. All the best to the pair of them.

Disappointed for Josh Martin, whose recent games showed he had regained his confidence

Brown missed his chance after that confidence boosting win against Alfreton where he was excellent, he should've been able to kick on after that. Considering the injuries we had in attack you can’t say he didn’t get his chance but 0 goals and 0 assists in the league in a team like ours is bad.

I think Martin got a slightly rough deal having to play and cameo at wingback, not only did he have to adapt to a new team but a new position too. I hope he gets a deal somewhere, dropping into the National League wouldn’t be a bad thing he just needs some consistent game time. I think he’s a promising young player and I hope he gets another deal soon.

I would have hung onto Josh Martin, at least by extending his stay until the rest of the season. Jevani Brown needed to play more regularly in my eyes, but for some reason we just didn't give him enough time in my eyes. He arrived out of favour, low on morale and both players just seem like a wasted opportunity.

This is clear evidence that the recruitment team have  learnt from their mistakes after promotion. Sadly there is no room for sentiment. Ask our promotion winning captain. 

This statement says 7 out of 10 is not good enough to earn a contract. You need to be able produce 8 out of 10 performances. 7 is a given. Maybe harsh, but they have clearly said that each addition needs to improve the quality, not just make up the numbers. 

Martin must have been close, but they obviously feel they have better options available. 

Good fortune to them both.

 

Good luck to them both I think Josh Martin is a little unlucky but I trust the people who make these decisions, we can’t carry passengers. 

I think both players in hindsight arrived in a similar situation, requiring game time and confidence. If the results had gone our way earlier on during their loan spell, we might have seen more from them, especially Josh Martins.

His early cameos, I didn't see anything special, and it wasn't positive at all as to how we could get the most out of him. Stark contrasts to his time nearer the end of his deal at Notts. Both Martins and Jevani Brown had something which we do quite lack within our squad, something which at times we should have injected, but Stuart Maynard seemed hesitant to play them.

That was his decision, and I am not criticising that. I actually understand why, in some cases they did tend to be overlooked.

But, I would like to make the point that in games - especially against Salford we lacked energy and pace. Martins did well when he came on, he looked a bright spark and I had been calling his presence sooner. Some fans instantly spouted negative stuff when he arrived at the field, shouting that he was $**t, one of which left saying his performance was embarrassing and how he shouldn't have come on. In my opinion, I challenge him by asking him who else looked like they could break Salford's defence.

Salford looked ropey when we ran at them, David McGoldrick caused them problems when he tried to be direct. However, naturally he doesn't have the pace and relies on his skill. This is why I felt Martins and Brown could have made a bigger impact, especially in that game.

It shows the complexity and gamble of giving players more time, as it could have hindered us picking up points.

I wish them both all the best; I can understand Brown going back. Yet, I do think we should have given Martins another 6 months or to the end of this current season.

Good luck to both of them in the future. However, I think @Mapperley Pie's comment is spot on - neither really did well enough to be retained. I might have taken a punt on Martin as there's clearly a good player in there, but the club seems to have decided that two good performances at the end of his contract weren't enough. Both players were on board during a spell when we were struggling creatively and didn't really take their opportunity.

i think we can move on from both players and i thank them, but really despite the fact i would have kept martin. will javis sounds to be more impressive. its just a case of wishing both players all the best.

jevani brown could have been used more, martins might have secured a first team place but they are not notts players now.

In some ways, think we should have kept Josh Martin

Allowing Scott, & Martin to leave, knowing that there could be offers coming in for Jatta, might come back to bite the Club. I hope this isn't the case.
