Honestly, I am surprised given how much backing they have given previous managers during spells, but then, I see that the club are showing intent and are saying they want promotion. I do think more fans vocally wanted him gone, and with a torn fan base, it's hard to build optimism ahead of a new campaign. I also believe this explains why the club extended the season ticket renewal deadline, as quite a few fans (probably more than a few) told me they wouldn't if he remained as our head coach. People do vote with their feet, but I think the focus should be on "ambition" and "promotion".

I accept the decision, but I feel sorry for Stuart Maynard because there was a level of fans who just wouldn't accept him. It seemed like when we were top of the league, that minority would go silent or just be negative for the sake of it.

Obviously, I am not branding everyone with this brush, but on social media there are the usual suspects. Yet the moment we did lose, it was just unbearable with the calling for his sacking. This doesn't breed confidence, and is counterproductive. The likelihood of someone succeeding when a minority starts to grow, it's just not going to happen. Maynard was not without his imperfections. I found his lineups at times annoying and his in-game tactics weren't the best, but I can accept he's adjusting to league football. There's a level of flexibility you give, in the hope that in time a manager learns.

His subs tended to always be too late, so I certainly can see why the club has made this decision, but it still doesn't take away any surprise.

The board needs to really think carefully, because I don't think it would be wise to bring back Luke Williams, and I also believe that the next manager needs to be a leader, someone who has achieved promotion in the football league or has shown they are capable of promotion. I really do hope we avoid bringing in another unknown manager, because our squad needs experience from the top.

I wish Stuart Maynard all the best. I wished it had worked out because it would be better for us fans. However, the signs of improvement were little. I still would have given him longer personally, but now is a good point to bring in someone that can get the most out of the squad.

It's the right decision in my opinion. As I have said previously, Stuart did improve the team from last season. He improved the Notts defence & that clearly shows up in the season's stats.

But I didn't feel that he could take Notts to the next level, but I do wish him well, & I'm sure it won't be long before he is back in Football in some capacity.

This decision clearly shows that the owners have intent in getting promoted as soon as possible. I do hope that they will appoint an experienced league 2 Head Coach who has a good record at this level.

I also hope that the new person in charge will be allowed to play different styles of play rather than having to play 100% possession based football all the time.

I'm also pleased that the decision has been made quickly so that the new person in charge can get to know the players & have input into the types of new players he wants.

The new Italian man will be in charge of any new incomings  the procedure won't be changing anytime soon

I must say I was a bit surprised at the decision to sack Maynard because I think the brothers are not prone to knee jerk decisions and I don’t think they will have been swayed by talk on social media.

With the decision now made I suspect they already have a coach in mind I think we may see an appointment quickly, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Williams return.

Time will tell.

You can’t say these owners aren’t ambitious, it’s a big call and I can’t say I’m that surprised but I certainly sympathise with Stuart because in January he lost his two assistants and best player and neither got replaced adequately.

I think if you look at all the stats from this season they do play to Stuart’s favours, particularly with ones like XG and big chances created and this is kind of how I thought the brothers would look at the season. Equally, they will have been at every home match since the start of the year and like mine, their eyes will have been telling them a conflicting story.

Long term trends, especially on home form, the right decision

Agree with @Mapperley Pie, comparisons with Sirrel of a Luke return?

Did Montague stay too long? The January transfer decisions did cost us potential promotion!

I wasn't expecting this to be honest, and if you look at the naked facts it does seem a bit harsh. We've just made the play-offs. Defensively we've improved massively (an absolute prerequisite for succeeding in L2 IMO), but we've suffered such a talent drain due to departures and long-term injuries it was inevitable we would end up looking toothless up front. I would have done some things differently at Plough Lane but let's be honest, it wouldn't have made any difference with how thin we were. He kept us within touching distance of promotion despite two very mixed transfer windows and it feels like he's been made to carry the can for the decline in quality in some areas.

And yet, I saw the run-in too and at no point did we look like a team that was chasing promotion. While it was necessary to adapt to L2, we saw a return of the "respect the point" mentality of Neal Ardley, the only other manager the brothers have sacked. Could another manager have instilled a more positive mentality and got more out of the players at crucial times? Maybe.

Either way, what's done is done and some important decisions are looming. We only have a couple of our promotion winners left, the DoF ha been replaced and we have just had a clean sweep of the coaching staff. The continuity is gone and we need to find people who can take us the next step forward and truly get us looking like a team that could cope in L1.

I wish SM all the best. He is a decent guy. He didn't deserve the personal abuse directed at him and his family. It was disgusting.

We will get another coach and it will be rinse and repeat. I don't think the approach the owners are taking will work in League 2. We need an experienced manager who has the freedom to make the big decisions. As it will be another coach, he needs to have experience at this level and a strong support staff with minimal input from the owners.

I'm relieved.

Wish Maynard all the best in whatever is next, but his football was incredibly boring to watch. The players looked completely lost and lacking any direction or belief in the system they were being asked to play.

Maynard's record 24/25

Notts were fifth highest goal scorers in league 2 (regular season)

Notts conceded less goals than 17 league 2 clubs. (regular season)

Notts recorded 16 clean sheets.

Notts recorded 20 league wins, 10 of those were away.

Notts recorded 2nd best away record in league 2. (regular season)

Notts avoided defeat in 32 league games.

Notts finished in 7th place in League 2.

Notts qualified for the league 2 playoffs.

In the past that record would not have justified a manager losing his job. How times have changed.

In a way, those stats from above are what I thought might have been his saving grace as our owners seemingly pay close attention to all the stats and data.

Maybe if we had been more exciting at the expense of conceding a few more goals he might have been ok. But far too often we were reliant on individuals just being better than the oppositions defence when it came to our attacking play. It’s probably why we did fine against the poor teams but more often than not got nothing against the good ones. We didn’t look like a well-coached attacking unit and in my opinion that’s probably what cost him his job.

Both Halifax and Gateshead are looking for a new managers, wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at either.

Stuart Maynard's dismissal came as a surprise, but I think he was dealt a rough hand by not having his assistant properly replaced. The good and the bad is that he never looked like he was adapting well, and I believe the decision was the right call. His replacement seems to have taken just as long as Maynard would have to make a substitute, which suggests there might be some issues to work through.

I hope, for our sake, that it’s not too late and we can focus on the new season. It’s important that the team gets a fresh start and we can move forward positively.
