Peterborough friendly cancelled

Featured Replies

These things happen unfortunately. Not sure that it had anything to do with Alex Bass going to Peterborough, but I suppose it could have been a little awkward for him & the Notts players him going very suddenly.

In the scheme of things it won't affect the Notts preparation. They do have plenty of friendly games in their calendar. It is always easy to arrange a behind closed door match. I'm sure Notts will be looking into it if they feel it's necessary.

Someone did suggest it could potentially be due to the Peterborough owner giving an indication of the fee for Bass on social media. This could've possibly upset our board because they seem to do everything in their power to keep things like transfers and fees quiet.

It’s being played behind closed doors, so they likely don’t want to risk playing Alex Bass against us. There’s really not much to it. There’s no money to be made from the friendly, so complaining about it seems pointless.

It would be typical of Notts to react quickly when news gets leaked or shared, but it's not unusual for a friendly to be called off if there’s a worry about protecting a player or avoiding confusion that could cause problems. These things always lead to speculation. Maybe Notts are trying to avoid losing more players to Peterborough and thought the friendly might give them a chance to spot someone else.

Or it could be that Peterborough arranged the match to get a closer look at Alex Bass, thinking their bid might not go through. Perhaps they planned to make a move after the game, but instead made the offer early.

Why worry about it? Alex Bass has left now. He did well while he was with us, and we’ve got good memories to keep. We don’t even support Peterborough United, so if they cancelled the friendly, that’s up to them.

And if Notts cancelled it for some reason, it doesn’t really change anything either. It’s not a big deal.

I’m not bothered, really. I never understood the point of calling it a behind closed doors friendly if fans can still go. It just feels like a training session in disguise, with both teams trying to hide their players from other clubs.

It's interesting, as I remember reading about it on the official site and a different post other than the one headlined "Pre-season update ℹ️" of Nick Tsaroulla training. So, did I dream this, or has the club actually removed updates??? I can't say I am overly bothered, but it wouldn't be the first time the club has had a knee-jerk reaction to negative updates and the loss of a player, resulting in a media PR tidy up.

i dont care, it could be either but you just hope whatever it was it was not out of spite or pettiness. as professional clubs that is not the way to be acting and it would be disappointing from either perspective. if it was cancelled because the date no longer worked, i would hope it was something more like that but honestly it changes nothing. i am more interested about this mystery game we have behind closed doors. it makes me wonder if we actually do have a game.

club wants to be private, no time, no location. that is the real mystery!

As the old saying goes, whatever will be, will be. It’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Still, I find it odd that a club would want to keep a friendly game private. It’s only a kickabout, not a top-secret mission. Who do they think they are, MI5 or the Met Police FC?
