Match Discussion: League Two - Crawley Town (A)

Featured Replies

A think it was a typical Martin Paterson performance from Notts once again, with a gritty, workmanlike, but rather scrappy performance especially in the first half.
I think there has been a difference in the way Notts play since last season. I do like the way that his side has become hard working, gritty & defensively compact, which was certainly missing under previous Head Coaches during the last few years.
I think it is alright to use the direct attacking style on some occasions, but I do think that Notts should continue with their cultured attacking style especially at home. Hopefully the new players recruited in the January window will enable that attacking style to flourish once again.

A first half to forget for both teams, you can tell they hadn't played competative football for a while.

A positive performance from Mr Belshaw bolstered us, and a great strike from Mr Jones settled us a little. Them going down to 10 men didn't help as it looked as though we thought the game won, they had different Idea's though. A 3 point gain away from home is a bonus and the start hopefully of a decent run of games. COYP

A bit of Jodi Jones magic, a goal from a corner no less.....

Beck-Ray is very very quick! Nice to have genuine pace, Chiedozie style!

This league is just weird

I came away from Accrington feeling very annoyed with us, especially with how we set up. Paterson was dealt a bad hand with the summer, but he needs to show he can get us playing fluid attacking football at a high intensity.

He always says the right things and the gesture on the coach yesterday was lovely and I really just want him to turn the tactical dial up a bit so we can get to that level needed to finish in the top 3.

I came away from yesterday, not feeling blown away by our performance, but realising are we that much different to the teams around us? It's just about efficency and organisation and whilst the league is weaker, the quality within the promotion race is tight and condensed.

It’s a weird league, MK Dons have just spent a load of money to sign Ben Wiles who regularly played for Huddersfield in League 1 and here’s us with Iorpenda (who I really like, this is not a diss) who isn’t even considered as being ready to play for them. Yet we are 2 points off them.

I think it’s going to be hard for us to be a complete free-flowing attacking team without spending a load of money, you just need to be organised with quality in the final third and more often than not that gets you the three points. That said, I still think we play a lot more free-flowing football than most teams do in this league.

I thought we were unspectacular but really solid and we looked the better side. Palmer back was a massive bonus, he helps us 'play' in that regard. I thought we played ourselves into a number of good positions quite often where had the final ball just been that little bit better, we’d have created a really good chance. We pressed Crawley really well and they only really looked threatening from set-pieces (long-throw), which is a bit of a trait in League 2.

It was then slightly ironic that both our goals came from corners, because this isn’t usual for us, but it's about time we started being more of a threat from them!

I have seen lots of comments on Norburn yesterday, he is marmite, you either love him or hate him.

He has that midfield nous to wind people up but I find him frustrating is that he is always looking backwards rather than forwards most of the time

If we are to be serious about promotion, a quality replacement for Grant is needed

A massive bonus that we nursed him back in, took the 3pts and he can push on from there in home games coming up.

Wasting good positions in the final third kind of defines us. I'm certain the club knows this and they're doing all they can to bring in that player who can play-in Jatta and Dennis and be able to notch a few themselves.

Some comments blow my mind, are we talking about park football or something? If 'winding people up' can get a starting shirt then we're going nowhere.

You're right, Norburn made very little positive contribution to our play yesterday. I think he was there for extra insurance as it was Palmer's first game back. Otherwise, there's duplication between the two and we need either Robbo or Iorpenda there to add athleticism and cover more ground

@theAnticlough I've seen some social media speculation that Shrewsbury are interested in Norburn.

It wouldn't be a big surprise if he was in the same category as Gordon - we have to streamline our wage bill i guess to bring in new blood.

Look at the first game of the season.....Gagliardi's work is being cancelled out

In that first game we had Roos, Aljofree, Gordon, Cotter all getting starts, Norburn came off the bench. So did Bennetts, who wasn't in the 18 man squad yesterday and got no mention in interviews.

Norburn though is decent back-up for Palmer at this level. And consideing MP and Robbo are injury-proned we need that back-up. As a regular starter though? I wouldn't say so.
