Loan players

Does anyone worry about the number of loan players we have in the squad at the moment?

Don't get me wrong they are doing a great job but one day they will have to go back to their parent club and where will that leave us?

Is it time we started signing permanent players so we can get a bit of stability in the squad? Or is that the way football is going now, players moving from club to club on loan especially in the lower leagues and even permanent signings have short contracts it seems. The days of 3 and 4 year contracts have gone.

As you have said it's just the way of the modern game, any club that relies so heavily on loan players always stands the chance to be left in the lurch at any moment.

re the 3 / 4 year contracts, they went out when the ridiculous amounts of money came into the game

No, not as such.

I think we will be fine. A lot of our flair comes from the loan players but I think extending them where ever possible is enough and the one's we can't, I have faith that Derry can replace them with good players. In January I would be surprised to see us not make the odd signing on a permanent basis, there should be some players floating around and fringe players should become open for the loan market.

We should continue as we are because the squad needs that "strength" which comes from the togetherness.

Real true grit, passion and ability to know what we're good at.

A field where dreams become reality.

I would say worried, I am concerned.

The problem is there is not a lot of use getting loan players for short stays. The hassle of renewing them, if it is a gamble fair enough but if like derry you say you are aware of their quality surely season long loans is the way forward?

I am not worried as such, there is a raised eyebrow, but that is it...

I have faith that we will make the odd signing, odd as in few in number, not odd as in Michael fish...

I will be really happy if we keep the solidity of the side as real signings, but as others have said, the flair players as loans

We don't have any money so a squad of permanent players is not going to happen. The loan players have made a significant contribution. If we did go up, we wouldn't be able to compete in the Championship. We don't have the resources. We'd be like Yeovil last year, only worse.

i am not worried or concerned, i just hope if any dont come back or extend we can find replacements. the club are doing well to bring in decent loan players, remember when they hardly worked out and we had loan players all making the bench? i would rather have them playing and making our own players want to put them on the bench than them not being selected.

I don't really like it, but at the end of the day Derry and Abbott have to work with what they've got, and I'd rather get a good loan player in like Laing or Petrasso then spend their wages signing a poor player permanently.

I agree with @lewisncfc.

If we spent what we have left on players on a permanent basis, they would not be the quality required to push on in my humble opinion. I do not like having more than 4 loan players but we have to accept it, we dont have funds to rely on bringing big players. I am not worried, derry will replace them if anyone cannot extend. Simple!
