Qatar keeping the cup

As the report below says, looks like the fridges from over the river will need to be cranked up as Qatar will keep the WC.

Might be a hot one, in more ways than one.

A report by FIFA will not recommend Qatar is stripped of the 2022 World Cup, according to Sky Sources.

It is understood that corruption investigators have not found evidence of wrongdoing that would threaten Qatar staging the 2022 tournament.

But Sky Sports correspondent says the report is expected to be critical of England's bid.

I don't really care now to be honest.

I feel that with so many deaths being caused through poor conditions to build the stadiums etc, I think it would be a shame for them to have it stripped. If anything they should be fined a considerable amount of money, that why they'll learn without it creating a farce.

It's not like FIFA will admit any wrong doing.

Don't disagree with the sentiment, but if anyone can afford to laugh off a fine, even in the billions, then it is Qatar.

In fact why don't we get Sven back and see if he can sell them the 'dream' and buy Notts.

Ooopps. Been there, done that!

I cannot say I am surprised, cover ups often happen. If the media wanted I am sure someone could dig up dirt, though I suspect they will have been paid off.

Still, the money could be used to help football develop further.

Yet it is likely nowt will happen.

I've got to disagree with this - it's a bit like saying the Berlin Wall should have stayed up because so many people died trying to cross it.

If Qatar are allowed to keep the World Cup, more people will die thanks to the miserable working conditions at the stadium sites. FIFA should strip them of it immediately. But we all know they won't - he who pays the piper calls the tune.

I'd say the wall is somewhat different myself but the point is valid.

If they're not going to take action by removing it, a fine in my opinion would still be a good route to go down. I don't see FIFA ever stripping any nation of hosting the world cup, I just don't see them going through that hassle. Also, I am sure whatever outcome will make officials at FIFA look bad but someone high up probably knows and wants to keep his job.

i think the whole thing is a joke tbh, i do not see how they won it. more should go into the fact nations have things ready, rather than them winning it on the promise they will build stadiums etc. it just seems a waste and the fact it will be at a stupid time of the year, its just disappointing.

not surprised to see its been handled like this either.

This is actually bonkers. The man who wrote the report claims that FIFA has completely misrepresented its findings, and FIFA are refusing to publish anything apart from their own summary. I think they knew what they wanted the result to be and twisted the report accordingly.

It's also interesting that the FA have been accused of trying to "curry favour" with other FIFA members. Generous gifts (new computers, fancy holidays) have long been the order of the day in the bidding process for World Cups - the bidding process that FIFA refuses to reform!

Shiteee is going to hit the Fan, when Big $$$$$ Sponsors start getting involved.

Mess with the Money, you Mess with the power.

They have no choice but to release the FUL Detailed report from Mr Garcia.

Exactly.

Yet they can cover it up, we all know that they're corrupt. They have no desire to replace main people, nor will they.

I reckon the ex Mrs Blatter must have one hell of a shoe collection.... Mind you, she was only married to him for two years...

It's beyond a joke now

The Russians apparently didn't give any e-mail evidence because all the computers they used for the bid were "rented", and they no longer have access to them. I know economically they aren't at their strongest point, but surely they can buy a few £200 computers?

FIFA has surely got the be one of the most rotten organisations on the planet.  At least if stuff like this happened in a large corporation there is a chance of heads rolling due to public pressure and accountability. With FIFA there just seems to be no accountability whatsoever.

I don't agree that they wouldn't find any corruption but i'm not surprised thats whats been said. They were very likely to cover it up for their own reputation as much as Qatar's.

The very fact that they didn't have a completely impartial investigation gave me the answer at the very start.

How can someone who is on the payroll investigate the very back handers he, amongst others, received and then come out & say "oh yeah, we all received a couple of million in dodgy payments"

FIFA should be disbanded

Did anybody think we had heard the last of this?

Fifa ethics investigator applies for Dragon's Den, well maybe, at least he has the catchphrase sorted "I'm Out"

This will go on and on but nothing will change.

It will never go away with the Current incumbent and his Cronies in that office.

The 2018 and 2022 will go ahead, but by the time the 2022 Cup comes around, I hope/Believe FIFA will have changed considerably

I think there will be serious repercussions over the next few months with a major overhaul of FIFA.This may take a long time.

There needs to be an overhaul, otherwise I can see international football suffering a slow death. Let's face it, we're only really interested in the World Cup and the Euros anyway. UEFA have already diluted the European Champions by expanding it to 24 teams (IMO 16 teams was the perfect format), and the controversy around the next two World Cups could really affect the standing of the tournament.
