The arguments for and against us making the playoffs

Featured Replies

I was thinking about this last night. Realistically 6th place is the best we can hope for at this stage but is it possible?

Arguments for:

- The addition of JCR and McCourt have given us an attacking edge that has been lacking.

- Leroy Lita is a proven goalscorer.

- Bajner could benefit from playing with Lita.

- The defence seems to have tightened up.

- We have to play most of the teams ahead of us.

Arguments against:

- We have to go from 18th to 6th in 13 games. That's asking too much.

- Our home form.

- 34 goals in 33 games .

- Lita is not the player he was.

- Any injury to our first 11 would hurt us as we don't have strength in depth.

Thoughts?

If everyone replicates their season's form through to the end of the season, Bradford are set to take the last play-off place on 67 points. That's a modest target, but to match it we would have to pick up 26 points from our remaining 13 matches, assuming that no-one puts in a winning run until now and the end of the season and puts 6 spot well and truly out of reach. For 26 points we'd need 8 wins, 2 draws and 3 defeats - championship form. I don't think that's realistic.

It's a missed opportunity though. Some seasons 80 points wouldn't get you a play-off spot!

Honestly until goals begin to come more easily all we can do is hope we avoid relegation. Yes, we are creating chances, but no we aren't converting them easily at all. We need a settled side and need to become more fluid in front of goal.

We need to see signs of being able to finish games off properly before I can even contemplate this, so for me it will always be out of the question but I do just hope to see us progress forwards no matter what. Yesterday it sounded like we could have lost it, despite us being what appeared to be the most liveliest. Colchester United really came into it and while we struggle to score against them, I suspect it will be harder to score against the better sides.

I mean @cotton13 said that it could happen yesterday, though I don't want to think about it.

We've just came out of a game whereby we could have been left hanging, the negative surrounding the game was quite depressing and I don't want us to go into thinking it's possible because going from one end to the other is more than enough.

If it happens it will happen, I'm not trying to sound negative. Just realistic really, so Derry should be pleased.

A field where dreams become reality.

Let's concentrate on avoiding relegation, the play offs are out of reach on our form.

Leroy Lita's record isn't that impressive and it should be better, proven no but a very good player. He's in his twighlight years though.

I think we can forget about the playoffs.

Just focus on making the club as attractive as possible, prepare and rebuild. Let's not get carried away after winning Colchester!

When people ask what 'American Pie' is about, they're missing the point. The song isn't about the lines themselves - it's about what is between the lines. The song is about what isn't there.

Think the play offs are out of reach now.as long as we stay up job done.I think derry and Abbott are planning for next season already.

i dont want to start thinking about possible promotion or fighting for a playoff place, i think after the next 3 games this will go right of the window but we should aim as high as possible.

Regards the above two comments-exactly my thoughts.
