I saw Weymouth Pie posted a link to the song Enola Gay by OMD. It got me thinking, I love Synth Pop, easily my favourite music genre.

I neither like nor dislike this genre.Some is quite good,some is dire.

Good share, classic era! Not a fan of it all but I'm the same with general pop! I hate bubble gum pop.

Synth is where most of my music tastes come from.


Enjoyed all of the above, but I went with Erasure, Pet Shop Boys and most importantly, Depeche Mode.

I used to love Erasure when I was younger, but time hasn't been kind to them - can't believe how naff it all sounds now.


 


However, when the mood takes me, I still occasionally don the old leotard and sing along to 'Sometimes' while I'm doing the washing up.

Funnily enough, Absolute Radio does a show called 'forgotten 80's' and this last one had a lot of 'synth pop' in, in fact they interviewed some of the leading bands and artists. I actually enjoyed it!

Majority I could sing along with too.

Same here really - I mean the grown out of them  not the old leotard bit!!!

Saw them live a few months ago though and it was superb. It was a 'remix' tour so to speak as every song had been remixed and spoofed up. Surprising  how good some of the old stuff sounded to a more club-type beat. Age wise it was also funny seeing Andy Bell trying his best to do the usual dance routines. At his age and two hip replacement ops later he really should just stick to the vocals!!!

Thats probably why I still follow Depeche Mode as much as I do. They have evolved so much the music now is unrecognisable to the early stuff. Good to see a band do it the hard way rather than x factor etc...

The Pet Shop Boys are still going strong. Huge fan in the 80s, but I didn't like their later stuff as much. It's more dance which is the natural evolution of Synth I guess.


 


Soft Cell are another band I find myself listening to. Marc Almond is an interesting character. Saw an interview with him on C4 recently. Cam across as a nice guy. He's doing solo stuff now, some is quite good, but not really my cup of tea. Dave Ball was the other half of the duo, he kind of gets forgotten about, but he was the instrumentalist and is responsible for the "sound".

I noticed in HMV that there seems to be some sort of revival for this genre, it brings back warm memories!
