Celebrating staying up - what's the point?

I was watching Rotherham's pitch invasion after they stayed up last night. Why? Because you are less rubbish than 3 other sides? Because staying up is the height of your ambition? I find the fact that Notts are in yet another relegation dogfight depressing to be honest. There's nothing to celebrate. I know others will disagree, mostly those that will be running around the various grounds up and down the country this coming weekend!

I think it depends on the circumstances. For Rotherham, the Championship is realistically the highest level they can aspire to, their "top flight", and staying there is cause for celebration. For us last season, our escape was little short of miraculous and we could realistically hope that it would prove to be a one-off and a springboard to better things. This time around it's more a cause for relief than celebration.

Holding on at this level is bittersweet for us. Last season felt like a promotion, we were all resigned to League Two. But most of the players on the pitch were responsible for us being in that position in the first place, so they don't exactly deserve to be mobbed.

I'm pleased for @BradtheMiller because he's supported us, I also don't see why they should be punished when other sides have gotten a way with it. I'm not going to start an arguement about that but I know of two League One players who was fielded after reciving a red card and another who played a loanee who should have returned on that day.

Neither of the three was punished, well I believe one was fined.

I'd like to see consistancy myself and I would also point out, it's their fat manager and not the fans who should be punished.

A twitter post made me laugh they said that the Rotherham fans wanted to throw Steve Evans in the air after staying up but there were only 11,000 fans there.

As for celebrating staying up, I wouldn't go as far as to run on the pitch to mob the players but I think if Notts stay up I will celebrate with a pint or two just out of shear relief more than anything.

Celebrating not playing Accrington Stanley in the league is enough for me.

To stay up from a Notts point of view would be an achievement. An achievement for the season? No, absolute failure. But an achievement in the last 2 games to win and play half decent football.

Plus, it means we might sign a half decent standard of footballer in the off season, rather than the Gary Silks of this world.

our fans plan to do it on sunday, how is that different?

they will be celebrating a season of sustaining themselves in a division three season ago they would never have dreamt to be in.

The least I'd expect from a club like Notts County is League One at the very least. Have our standards fallen that far? Struggling at the bottom of the division in comparison to smaller clubs like Rochdale or Chesterfield tells its own story. The difference? They are better run on and off the field. Our club is more of a circus or a soap opera than a football club the last couple of seasons.

If we stay up I will be on the pitch. Securing League One status is worth celebrating for me

If Notts get relegated it puts them back a year.If they stay up, at least they will still be in League One and in with a chance of promotion to The Championship next season. So for that reason it would be a time for (muted) celebration.

I think it bubbles down to relief and that can be a strange form of joy. Nothing wrong in rejoicing survival, provided its respectful and tastefully done. I think us and Rotherham deserve that but each to their own.

If we survive it will be just about all we've had to celebrate this season!

Dripsey me old mukka of bloody course we celebrated. We were a League 2 club in the 2012/13 season & now we have survived in a Division awash with big budgets & Premier League parachute payments, hell, Fulham spent £11 mill on Ross McCormack alone, we have the smallest stadium, the smallest playing budget in the Championship & we stayed up when the 2013 FA Cup winners & rentathug Millwall, along with poor old Blackpool, went down.

Too right we're celebrating!!!!!!
