Fabian Spiess is training with Liverpool

Notts CountyΒ goalkeeper Fabian Spiess has been training with Premier League side Liverpool.

Spiess has been with the Reds for the last three days having and is hoping to impress manager Brendan Rodgers.

The German has found appearances limited at Meadow Lane this season because of the form of Northern Ireland international Roy Carroll.

He has played two games for the Magpies this season but they have come in the Johnstone Paint Trophy.

Β

They were both victories against Mansfield and Scunthorpe.

SpiessΒ was also sent out on loan to Bristol Rovers in December and played three games for the Pirates and remained undefeated.

Since moving to Notts in 2011, Spiess has only made 16 appearances, 14 of them starts, the other two have come as a substitute.

He is highly rated at Meadow Lane and if any club were to make a move for him, the Magpies would be entitled to compensation because he is under the age of 24.

I'm not sure I personally believe this, he had a time whereby I do know he was being scouted and I know that fans think that's a rumour but it wasn't the case. I have no idea why Liverpool would be even looking at a League One goalkeeper who could only find game time with a lower tier side (not even his parent club). He seems to be wasted here though.

I'd love him to go on and do well, he's a nice lad and great with the younger fans.

Just seems this is being stretched quite far, as it wasn't that long ago he was training with a scandinavian club which turned out to be false, as I asked him and he just smirked. He said he had been carrying a knock, so it seems strange he's now linked with Liverpool when he couldn't even get game time with us.

He looks like a good keeper, yet he does not play like one for whatever reason. I think now would be a good time to raise some funds for next season, if this rumour is true I would be asking his agent to push forward talks with some of the other top clubs.

Liverpool's interest may attract further offers.

Whatever happens we know he has future at Notts. To be placed behind Pilks in the pecking order says something about his value to the club, but again this does bring to the table the conversation about Notts and it's 'legendary' youth policy of bringing players through.

Not all will make it admittedly, but surely if Hollis can then anyone can!

If he was being scouted heavily last year then he should have been played or sold. End of. Leaving a player with a promising future to stew for two years without even calling on him when your first team keeper is unavailable is scandalous. He looked ropey in pre-season...so sell him on then. Don't leave him doing nothing. Way to ruin his confidence Notts.

I would rather see him in goal than I Carroll to be honest, one will retire and the other could progress. It makes sense to get him up to scratch, however I am surprised to see him training with Liverpool.

Spiess is a good player.

He seemed to be a solid find and I dont really know why we don't see more from him. Its one of those mysteries of meadow lane, such as why we play so poorly at home and why we never seem to move forward. I would hope he stays, any tribunal fee will be small and not worth sending.

It would send out totally the wrong message to sell him, let him go, however the club word it.

The young, decent, talented, hungry footballers are who we should be having at our club, those who we can sell on for a good fee, especially and those who can and will play to the managers philosophy.

Just for the purpose of clarification i can confirm Spiess was at a scandanavian club (link Charlie Mac)some weeks ago and spent monday to wednesday inclusive this week at Liverpool.

Why would he tell me differently? He laughed that rumour off. BTW your names Doug right?

Bye bye Spiess, I do not get all the blame on previous managers.

If Fabian Spiess was good enough, he would have been selected and he would not have ended up a freebie. He will probably go on to continue his career provided he finds the right club. Good luck to him!
