If you learn something from every game, there shall come a point in time, when you should never lose... Jimmy Sirrel

One hope I have is that AH may be able to work together with Sheridan to reshape some areas of the club where his hands were perhaps previously tied. 2 and 3 being possible candidates.

I am of the opinion that managers should be given years in charge, not months. I don't wish to compare the two, but in today's climate Jimmy Sirrel would have been fired with Notts struggling at the foot of the second division. Hardy praised Sheridan's appointment, but I don't know his opinion of him now.

The difficulty for a chairman with a wad of money to spend is this: if you hand that money over to the manager (regardless of who the manager is) to spend as he wants, you are relying solely on his judgement. On the other hand, if you keep a close eye on him, suggesting some signings while vetoing others, you are interfering. It's a difficult one.

The media department has fallen victim to the strained relationship between the club and supporters and has probably been kept on a tight leash. We now have the chance to engender a really positive atmopshere around the club for the first time in years and boost the team, and the media department has an important role to play in that.

Oh, and I think 10 has been long forgotten. Personally I'm glad, there aren't many things uglier in daylight than a metal mesh facade. There are more important things to spend money on.

John Sheridan shouldn't be a question, this would provide Alan Hardy with an uneven starting point - he would be wise to give him chance. See how January pans out, as things may improve with fresh backing and investment into the club.

Agree full heartedly with the scouting, I would be tempted to allow fans who watch football to make suggestions that professional scouts can look into.

His biggest task will be to repair the fan base and get fans who have lost interest (for various reasons) back involved. He'll have to be diplomatic in this department and very mindful, as an open hand can go along way and I'd personally approach such things like peacekeepers do during wars. If anyone questions the types of fractions in and around Notts, if only you knew the half of it.

Perhaps the fan who sold badges and little items which fans for generations enjoyed will be welcomed with open arms? After all he hardly cost the club.

Though largely I agree with the list as stated above. Good post!

Sheridan shouldn't be a question? Then good bye then! ????

Sheridan shouldn't be a question? Then good bye then! [emoji23]

How would sacking the manager help things? What was one of Ray Trew's major flaws in this department (aside from appointing no hopes from the start)??

I don't knock your thoughts, though I think there's a culture of being rash when it comes to chance and of course fault.

Nobody knows how JS will do under a new regime.

And personally I'm not a fan of new owners sacking managers or appointing new ones based on the flavour of the month. We desperately need stability, let's not continue chopping heads off and hiring to only fire a few months down the line.

only benefit from appointing a new manager would be if hardy could not work with sheridan or wanted to out all the people trew had hired. he may want his own staff, his own people but considering we are in a relegation battle i do not think such changes would be good for the club either.

2. Total revamp of scouting. Both for identifying players, and technical analysis of opposition

much needed.

3. A footballing philosophy

as above, no five year plan but a philosophy that can adapt to the time and changes but with a core principle.

4. Serious questioning of squads capabilities. Need to ship players out.

no joke here, it needs to be done but anyone who joins on perm must be good enough to be retained come the end of the season.

5. Boosting crowd initiatives. Experimental lowering prices.

the price needs to be lowered and for a fair period to test it out. dont see it happening mid way through a season tho.

6. Return of the Bench initiative

im not sure what was a exactly ground breaking about this but it did get fans excited, i think there is better things which could be done. signing players that get people talking will help to fix the gap.

7. Revamp of Media depts output. Too subdued recently, makes Benedict's input worthy

get back the old team if possible.

8. Need to clean seats more regularly

not really a major issue, its nothing a baby wipe cant resolve.

9 Transparency with Supporters so that surprises of Winding Up orders are a thing of the past

yeah this is important, not just because of the winding up orders but for all things in general. the club should be put off from hosting fan forums just because they think it will be negative, you have to be direct and listen to things sometimes.

10. Redecorating facilities and new facade of Family Stand

the stands need modernising, the catering is awful and very outdated. serving food from prior games is just tacky too.

My thoughts on Sheridan are based on:

Current losing League run

Quality of players brought to the club.

The question needs to be asked if he is given a budget, will he misspend again?

We could flip the questions quite easily, though I understand where your coming from.

Current losing streak - how much of barring does the internal politics take on the matter? The looming takeover, the talk of not being paid on time, the frustration of the chairman stating publicly he wouldn't be putting money into the club (good managers have struggled with much less nonsense - Cardiff for example).

How much falls down to the scouting system in place from the prior regime? We all know its not up to scratch.

Could John Sheridan have wanted players who we simply couldn't afford? How does the budget compare to what seems gigantic during the prior campaign (under Moniz, Fullarton and Cooper)?

Will a supportive board, chairman and staff see the budget better spent? Perhaps it will be solely the managers decision who he looks to sign? Rather than having to purpose transfers and for them to give the thumbs up before a player is finally captured under the managers eyes.

I don't know, there's more to it - John Sheridan frustrates me but I don't see better coming in even if Hardy unleashes his cheque book.

For me JS needs more time , now with a positive atmosphere in and around the club a revitalised fan base , things can change quickly , let's see how the next month pans out , I genuinely think the tide could turn , this takeover is huge , stability is what the club is crying out for.

12 topics based on seeing only 1 home league win this season.

1 Is our current goalkeeper good enough to stop the rot?

2 3 4 5 is our defence good enough...

6 7 8 10 Besides SA CT JR and RM is our midfield good enough..

9 11 besides John Stead is our forward line good enough...

Over to you Alan Hardy and 'the manager'

12 is JS the manager to put together and motivate a team to play with pride for Notts. County and bring back fans to Meadow Lane?

Not too sure on this one, Rowett will be getting a Championship job soon anyway

2. Total revamp of scouting. Both for identifying players, and technical analysis of opposition

Technical anaylysis? Its not rocket science. Everyone gets het up on trying to make football complicated, like the coaching badge system but i won't get into that here

3. A footballing philosophy

That comes from how the manager wants to play, another hang up term for me, just give a manager time and then we might get something akin to the above

4. Serious questioning of squads capabilities. Need to ship players out.

Cannot argue, how many different managers squads have we partially got now?

5. Boosting crowd initiatives. Experimental lowering prices.

Football is too expensive, kids should be able to watch a game and be able to get a drink & programme etc with their pocket money

6. Return of the Bench initiative

Good idea

7. Revamp of Media depts output. Too subdued recently, makes Benedict's input worthy

They're too distant now

8. Need to clean seats more regularly

This should surely be a given, whats wrong with getting the youth teams to do it?

9 Transparency with Supporters so that surprises of Winding Up orders are a thing of the past

Whilst i agree i feel that the Forest fans parading as Notts fans who like to cause trouble will just continue to do so

10. Redecorating facilities and new facade of Family Stand

Right now better things to spend money on but it does need  updating

http://www.williams-architects.co.uk/notts-county-football-club.html

With the current squad, Notts will be fighting relegation IMO. Maybe a few additions and a change in attitude of certain players will prove me wrong. I think JS needs more time, unless we do look like going down.

@Dripsey3 @Who r ya?? You Pies!! @liampie @notts-joe Do you still think Sheridan should be given more time? Where's the desire, defending skills, and practicing of penalties? If the players cannot be motivated for a game to earn much needed cash for the club, I am sorry folks, we are indeed in serious trouble.

Nothings changed for me @Piethagoram, I still hope that he can turn things around.

That said his suspension wouldn't have helped matters yesterday, Mark Crossley looked like Bambi. Though every department had a bad game, there was no saving graces but that said the defence was non-existent. I'm hoping we can replace Audel, one good game every so often isn't good enough but there is other work required.

@notts-joe Audel gets the criticism yet Duffy the un-droppable remains untainted?

Actually, @Super_Danny_Allsopp and I was discussing Duffy - he was bad but Audel stuck out by miles for me. Poor runs, wasteful distribution, always out of position, gave silly fouls and weirdly (and I don't get this) he knocked the ball out three times when a Peterborough player last touched the ball, ultimately giving them the ball back.

Like I say, none of the players deserve any praise - not even Jon Stead.

Some performed better than others but as a team sport/performance none of it was above poor.

I get what ya saying @Piethagoram massive work to do , think more are calling for his head now for sure , defence has been awful all season none should be kept for me , think personally if the loan window changes hadn't come in he would have changed things already , his own signings have let him down and the lack of quality from the rest he inherited is there for all to see , I'll go with what the new owner decides personally , but he could do well under better circumstances that will come now .

i would like to know why anyone would want js gone.

you always get people wanting a different manager but these people dont take the portion of blame for having got managers sacked in the first blame. i find it odd that people solely blame sheridan like some did with cooper but was quick to side over fullarton. theres no consistency with some fans.

Certainly more want John Sheridan out, though most are saying because other managers are available - its like a new phone release, people want to instantly upgrade.

I also wonder what Hardy thinks, as its him who will decide.

@super_ram: As an outside perspective and as someone who clearly had nightmares from watching our defending against Peterborough yesterday - do you think Sheridan should go? How do you feel the defence could be improved?

--

Regarding Russell Slade I think he's a decent manager but somewhat overrated in my opinion.

He's also someone who may spilt the fan base in terms of views because he's a lot like Charlie McParland but just a better manager overall. If Hardy goes down the route of sacking Sheridan, I would hope he chooses someone who isn't apart of the managerial merry-go-round that finds themselves unemployed very frequently.

Tough one this. The easiest task in the world is to spend someone elses money for them.

1 Give Sheridan time to prove himself. I agree with the poster who touted Gary Rowett but would he drop 2 divisions?

2, 3 and 4 are all no brainers. I think we need a real football man who understands the game but also appreciates the need to be realistic with targets.

5 Fan initiatives. To the best of my knowledge the EFL set a minimum match day admission price but I could be wrong. How about an adult season ticket for £230 at the start of the season meaning it would only cost a tenner a game? Would that double the gate and improve the atmosphere at the Lane? Surely worth trying for 1 season at least/

6 Bench initiative. Not overly fussed to be honest. Could be incorporated into number 5

7 Media department. Needs improving significantly. Social media match commentaries are a good few minutes behind most other clubs. Not good enough

8 Cleaning the seats. Another no brainer. You wouldn't put up with it at a cinema or theatre so why should we put up with it at football?

9 Transparency with supporters. Again not entirely straight forward. I don't think it is proper for any business to declare every minor detail and air its dirty laundry in public. However, a little PR goes a long way and it is an area where Notts could gain brownie points with the fans

10 Family stand facade. Not a priority but it could do with a makeover. Get the footballing side sorted first anr then worry about the peripherals.

  • 2 weeks later...

Top of the agenda, avoiding the drop obviously, with the current manager or a new one and the youth academy, the seats will have to wait. My sons team plays at the same level as his U10's side and he's very passionate about grassroots football, so I'm expecting some considerable investment in the youth setup.

Transparency? Social media is a massive problem (just look at the Trews and Fawaz) I've already had the pleasure of being blocked from his twitter page for a (unrelated to NCFC) comment he did not like, but as chairman and owner of NCFC he'll have to get used to all sorts of digs if/when things aren't going to plan. There's a lot coming via Twitter at the mo, hopefully it's not a trend and purely down to not having any official route yet. Once the deal is done and dusted statements on the official site will suffice.

He is a successful businessman and will have a solid strategy in place, so hopefully he'll bring that success with him to Meadow Lane and I wish him all the best.

COYP

Agreed @ScaffPie, hopefully he'll learn from Ray Trew's mistakes.

My hope is that Alan Hardy will be a kind of boardroom version of Martin Allen - raising morale and getting people to pull together. Notts are a real drag to support, work and play for right now, and we need to bring the fun back.

For me he needs to offer Damian Irvine whatever he wants to come back, the youth set-up isnt as easy as just throwing money at it, unfortunately the clubs reputation proceeds it and most if not all of the best coaches, scouts etc are very sceptical about Notts.

I'm not arsed how he communicates to fans as long as we are all in the know at the same time
